Once There was Union
copyright Lauri Ann Lumby
When I pierce the veil of time and peer across dimensions, it is only Union I know.
Where we were One in heart and mind.
Here we felt safe and our world was made of joy.
Singing the songs of creation.
Making universes with our love.
Then the whole world danced with joy.
We were happy then.
Love holding us together
Until fear tore us apart –
Casting our souls into the Void,
Spitting us out on the other side.
Trembling in our nakedness,
Separate. Alone. Afraid.
Forever cursed to searching for what we once had.
Yearning. Longing. Crying out.
Finding only sorrow in our search.
Temporary distractions and momentary satisfactions.
While holding the excruciating pain of longing in our hand.
Will we ever find our way home to the love we once knew?
I in you and you in me.
One as the Universe intended.
The Order of Melchizedek is here to support us in reclaiming and reactivating Christian magic – the ancient and secret magic of the Christian tradition. This is the magic that Jesus learned in his own journey of self-realization and self-actualization and the magic that he taught his disciples. (an excerpt from the Order of Melchizedek Level One Training).
The roots of this Christian magic reach way back in time, long before David designated himself high priest (PS 110) and long before the patriarchal tribes of Abram found themselves in the land of the Canaanites and received their blessing from the high priest Melchizedek (GN 14).
The roots of this magic go back farther still to a time when the One God was known as a genderless God who was nameless and faceless but who had many names and many faces to better serve the needs of the people. This was a God that could be he, she, breath, spirit, fire, mother, father, king or queen; and in whom the people could see reflections of themselves. In seeing themselves in God, they discovered that this God could be known, and in knowing this God, they would know themselves.
The roots of this magic go back to a time when the people lived in peace – a peace that arose in the knowledge that they were inseparable – one with each other and one with their God. All people lived in harmony for they knew that it was through this harmony that they could best survive. The magic that they practiced supported this union.
Union is the purpose of Christian magic and the rituals and practices of the Order of Melchizedek, and these rituals and practices support this union:
- Union with the Divine
- Union within ourselves
- Union with each other
- Union with all of creation
It is in this place of Union that we find ourselves and it is through this Union that we learn and understand that each of us, in our uniqueness, is a temple of the Divine and that it is through us that the Divine seeks to be known and made manifest in this world. Here the will of God is made manifest within and through us as each of us are called to be reflections of the Divine in human form – fully human and fully Divine. Here is where we find our own fulfillment and where the Divine purpose of the human experiment finds its fruition.

Existential Crisis # 874. I have spent my whole life working toward saving the world. I think it started with a dream, but I believe this desire was present long before the dream. Somewhere inside me has always been this feeling that something is wrong. Something wrong with the world. Something wrong with the people around me. Something wrong with me. So, for 53 years, I have tried to fix that “something wrong.” Trying to fix this “something wrong” has been directed at myself, at those around me and at the world. Finding my way into ministry, spiritual counseling and then developing courses in support of people’s journey toward self-actualization (you know…the journey of “getting better”) fit perfectly into this inner drive to save myself, the people around me, and saving the world. For 26 years, my identity, my work, my creativity has been directed toward this idea of saving the world. But much of this, it seems, has come to an end (or is it a fulfillment?)
Yesterday, as I was sitting in the void which follows the end of what has been, facing down the consequences of the mission to which I have dedicated the last 26 years of my life and trying to find the fruits of these 26 years of really hard work (a few books, some happier people, some great relationships), I came upon a profound question:
What if there is nothing wrong and therefore nothing and no one to save?
Then my brain exploded.
Or did it?
When I look at this question from the perspective of the journey toward self-actualization, I find I might have come to the end (of course there’s never really an end) to my own journey. If the “goal” of self-actualization is Union with our true self and Union with the world, then it seems logical that in that place of Union all duality falls away. All perceived separation is brought together as one. In this, there is no “Us” and “Them,” we are all one in this journey we call life and we are all here to support each other’s awakening and journey toward wholeness. In this place of mutual support, there is no judgment. There is nothing wrong. Every single person is simply where they are on their journey. Period. As such, there is no one and nothing to “save.” When we think there is someone who needs saving, or we get our undies in a bundle over things of this world, it is because we remain in separation. When in Union we know and trust that all that is unfolding is doing so for the highest good and we are able to find peace and contentment within that unfolding (or at the very least, equanimity) and we realize that nothing is in need of saving.
That being said, there are tools that help us along the way and until I am shown otherwise, I am happy to share the tools that came through me and have worked for me in finding release from the perceived separation that has made me want to save a world that as it turns out, doesn’t need saving.
Union – A Year of Spiritual Lessons and Practices with Mary Magdalene
Mary Magdalene is many things to many people, but to the initiated, she is the Beloved of Christ, his co-equal partner, and guardian of the mystical teachings and practices of the Western spiritual tradition. More than any other disciple, Mary understood the mystical, gnostic, and alchemical teachings of Jesus. Mary came to embody these teachings and was empowered by Christ to deliver these teachings to the Western world.
Union – a Year of Spiritual Lessons and Practices with Mary Magdalene is a collection of lessons which when diligently applied, empowers the reader to experience the truth of Oneness (Union) that Jesus taught and which Mary Magdalene came to embody. These lessons were revealed to Lauri Ann Lumby through her intimate partnership with the Magdalene/Christ and support the reader’s journey toward remembering their original nature as Love.
Each lesson includes:
- Inspirational Reflection/Lesson
- Suggested Meditation/Contemplation exercise
- Mini-lesson in Authentic Freedom™ – Lauri Ann Lumby’s trademarked protocol for achieving Union.
