22 Pathways – Tarot Intensive

22 Pathways – Tarot Intensive

online training with Lauri Ann Lumby, OM, OPM, MATS

23 lessons and attunements on the Major Arcana

at your own pace and in your own time

Discussions moderated by course creator and facilitator – Lauri Ann Lumby

22 Pathways – Tarot Intensive approaches the tarot as less of a fortune-telling device and more as a path in support of your own journey of self-actualization.  Diving deep in to the ancients roots of the tarot in Jewish mysticism through the Kabbalah, 22 Pathways illuminates the human journey from awakening to full embodiment of our Divine selves.  When fully engaged, you will discover a tool that you can return to again and again to gain understanding, insight and support into your life’s journey toward self-fulfillment.

In this course, you will learn and study the Hebrew  Aleph-Beis (Alphabet) – the utterances through which the Great Source spoke the world into being and which later inspired the 22 cards of the major arcana.  Through each lesson, you will not only gain intellectual knowledge, you will grow into embodying the creative power within each letter and its corresponding card.  Through powerful spiritual practices and ritual, you will become attuned to each card/letter such that you come to understand that you ARE a vessel of Divine Creation  bringing your own worlds into being.

You may take this course as part of the Order of Melchizedek full training or stand-alone as a supplement to your existing Tarot or self-actualization practice.

 Tuition:  $666.00

Emptying Some More

There are many times throughout our journey home to ourselves (self-actualization) where our lives are completely re-aligned.  This re-alignment begins on the day we are born in the moment we are expelled from the comfort of our mother’s womb into the cold, often cruel, world.  No longer are all our needs continually met unbidden, we have to make people aware of our needs with no words to express them.  As we find our way through infancy and childhood, every moment is a re-alignment – a constant exploration and learning of how to be and who to be in this world.  The re-alignments continue as we graduate childhood and become students, when we move from the routine of grade school into the hormone infested chaos of middle school, and from there into the segmented atmosphere of high school – defined by social groups and activities.  From there we move to the job world or college, to love and marriage, parenthood, etc. etc. etc.  At certain steps along the journey a complete overhaul is required.

Finding our way home to ourselves is no different. The past several years for me has been one letting go and emptying after another.  Just as I think I have emptied enough, the Universe presents another opportunity/invitation/command.  (It’s really more of a command.  I have discovered in this journey toward Self that we really don’t have a choice.  If we are serious about our commitment to Self/Soul, freewill isn’t really an option.  It’s more of a do or die.)  I find that I am facing another one of these commands.

When I proclaimed to the world my commitment to my monastic self, I thought (how silly of me) “Ok we’re good.”  I figured it was simply a matter of living into the monastic-ish lifestyle that has been beckoning me.  Hah!  Just as we think we have things figured out, God/Goddess laughs.  Instead, I find that not only am I living into the question of what a monastic life looks like to me, I am also witnessing the further falling away of everything I thought myself to be and every role/offering I thought I had to share with the world.   For the past several months, my students have been falling away left and right. I have few clients to speak of.  The membership options I launched on my site are not thriving in the way I hoped they would.  Etc. etc. etc.

To add insult to injury, as a normally prolific writer and creator, my creative inspiration seems to be dried up.  I have four creative projects staring me in the face – one with somewhat of a deadline.  They are all standing there looking at me waiting for some movement but I got nothin.  Zilch.  Nadda.  Nothin.  Not one spark of inspiration to get these things done and bring them into fruition.  Nothin.

Old Lauri would have worried and fretted about the “looming deadlines” and the (seemingly) ever-decreasing income stream.  Even more, I would have worried about having nothing “to do.”  Instead, I know this is simply more of the movement toward Self.  As Jesus modeled for us and the ancient mystics further demonstrated, the intent and purpose of the spiritual journey is to be made empty so that we might be filled by God.  The journey home to ourselves, is ultimately about returning to Source – God, Love, Truth, Ain-Sof (No-thing), the Void, Allah, Brahma, Sophia, Shekinah, Abba, Amma,  – whatever name/image/form/formlessness you want to give it.  The human journey is all about Source calling us home to our true nature which can only be accomplished in an emptying of ourselves.

At this point in my journey I know better than to resist the call of the Soul.  Those things that are falling away are doing so to create space for something even more amazing, life-giving and fulfilling.  I have absolutely no idea what that might be, but I am open to receive and getting out of my own way so the Divine can make its home in me.

Mary Magdalene and the Kabbalah

Beyond the trappings of pop-culture commercialization, the Kabbalah is an ancient and sacred system of mysticism firmly rooted in Judaism, whose origins may truly precede the culture which embraced and then formalized it.  Like the mystical beliefs and contemplative practices of Christianity, the Kabbalah has been guarded for centuries by those who could comprehend and responsibly employ her teachings and practices.  The Kabbalah is at once a theology (a study of and discussion about the Divine), a cosmology (an articulation of how the universe is ordered), and a developmental psychology (the study of human nature and how to support its development). The purpose of the Kabbalah is to support us in coming to know ourselves through our intimate understanding of and relationship with the Divine and to support us in becoming our most authentic selves. In this, the Kabbalah is at once a guide and a tool.

Unfortunately, human beings have twisted the meaning of the Kabbalah as something to use for their own personal gain – to get what they want by using the Kabbalah as a tool of magic.  This was and has never been the intention of the Kabbalah. While the Kabbalah can be thought of as a system of and for the purpose of magic, this is true only when we understand how magic is defined in the authentic Kabbalistic system.  The magic brought about through the proper study of and engagement with the Kabbalah is Union – Union with the Divine, Union with ourselves, Union with each other and Union with all of creation.  In this, our true Divine nature becomes fully embodied and fully engaged in our human form.  The earthly goal of the Kabbalah is Malkuth – what Jesus referred to as “the Kingdom of God.”

Kingdom of God, however, is an error in translation.  Being feminine in form, Malkuth can more accurately be described as the Queendom of God – or more accurately, The Bride.  The fulfillment of the Kabbalah is the revelation of the ineffable Source (Keter) through The Bride (Malkuth).  It is only in knowing and embodying The Bride that the Source can be known and fulfilled.  In the passion play lived out through Jesus and Mary Magdalene, Jesus was the Son (Tiferet) and Mary Magdalene was the Bride.

Mary Magdalene and her beloved Jesus provide the archetypal examples of the fulfillment of the Kabbalah.  Through diligent study of the Kabbalah and applying its principles in their lives, they ascended beyond the ignorance of the human condition to discover their true, Divine nature. They then brought that Divine nature into their human experience through the process of descent.  Through the process of descent, they faced their demons, unhealed wounds, past traumas, unacknowledged fears and societal conditioning so that they could fully embody LOVE, thereby fulfilling the mission and purpose of their Soul.  Mary Magdalene and Jesus both became fully Divine and fully Human which is the goal of the Kabbalistic process.

Betrayal

In the journey of self-actualization and coming into our wholeness, old wounds often resurface so that another layer of healing and transformation may occur.  Journaling and writing poetry are two of the ways I support myself in processing these wounds – in this case, the wound of betrayal.  What are the tools you have used to heal from the many ways in which life has betrayed you?

Betrayal

Betrayal seems to me the most excruciating of all pain,

Perhaps more painful even than death.

For in death at least there is closure.

And we can bury our dead.

(Isn’t death, after all, a betrayer and a betrayal?

Perhaps betrayal IS the pain in death, more so even than the loss.)

But in betrayal, the betrayer becomes a living specter reminding us of our failure.

How could I not have known?

How did I not see it sooner?

Why did I put up with this for so long?

But alas, we likely knew and saw from the very beginning –

The signs and the red flags –

Heralds of truth we chose to ignore

for the sake of counterfeit love,

a relationship of convenience…

a means to an end.

Or because this was the only kind of love we had ever known.

The betrayer – forever taunting us in their ability to go on.

While holding our beating and dripping heart in their hands –

as a trophy.

Pride the betrayer’s sin.

Believing themselves above the laws of human kindness,

Above reproach

Ever justified in their righteousness.

Using our vulnerability as a weapon –

The soul we bared against us.

A cruelty beyond imagining.

Intentional.

No apologies.

No seeking after forgiveness.

In betrayal, the pure of heart are left to suffer

while the betrayer rides off triumphantly

seeking after another one to betray.

Fall Reading List – Mary Magdalene

Lauri Ann Lumby, OM, OPM, MATS

Lauri Ann Lumby, OM, OPM, MATS, is the author of seven books, most of which were given to her by Mary Magdalene.  Directly given to Lauri or inspired by the work and mission of Mary Magdalene, these books provide the foundation and practices she learned through and with Jesus and which she was empowered to continue to share in his stead.  If Mary Magdalene and the journey toward self-actualization are topics of interest to you, consider adding these to your fall reading list:

Song of the Beloved Book

Song of the Beloved – the Gospel According to Mary Magdalene is a provocative retelling of the Jesus story from the perspective of Mary Magdalene.  After fourteen years of suffering the debilitating effects of trauma, Mary is healed by Jesus.  She then becomes his most enthusiastic and devoted disciple; later becoming his companion, co-minister, beloved and wife.  Designated the Magdalene, Mary is appointed to carry on Jesus’ ministry after his death.

A great work of fiction, inspired by scripture, historical documents and ancient sacred texts, Song of the Beloved provides nourishment and inspiration for those in search of a relevant Christianity – with Jesus and Mary as two who lived the fullness of the human experience while teaching us how to love.

Authentic Freedom – Claiming a Life of Contentment and Joy transcends centuries of dogma to reveal the powerful and life-changing message at the heart of Jesus’ teachings and the universal truths at the core of every religion. The book’s unique approach offers an opportunity for the reader to heal the separation they feel within themselves, with God and with each other, ultimately revealing the truth of Oneness. Built upon the compelling integration of Eastern Energy Medicine and the 2000-year-old tradition of Christian, contemplative spiritual practices, Authentic Freedom reveals a Dynamic and unifying path of spiritual transformation that speaks to people of all traditions and beliefs.

Authentic Freedom is the process Mary Magdalene was led through and learned from Jesus.  This is the process that empowered her to become co-equal with Jesus and which allowed her to assist him in rising from the dead and which made her worthy to continue Jesus’ work in his stead.

Only Love – the Secret Teaching of Mary Magdalene is a collection of writings received by Lauri Ann Lumby on behalf of Mary Magdalene. The ultimate purpose of these teachings is to support the world as it moves out of the fear that has held it imprisoned to the Love that is its original nature. Thank you for being a vessel through which you, and then the world, shall know that even in the human experience, there is Only Love.

“We are in an exciting time in the evolution of human consciousness. If you have found yourself drawn to these words, it is because you agreed to incarnate on the earth plane at this time to help usher in the age of Love.  You have agreed to this on behalf of the Divine intention of Love and for the sake of all of humanity.  As you know, this has been no easy task.  In order to support humanity in its next stage of evolution you have first had to do it for yourself.”

Union BookMary Magdalene is many things to many people, but to the initiated, she is the Beloved of Christ, his co-equal partner, and guardian of the mystical teachings and practices of the Western spiritual tradition. More than any other disciple, Mary understood the mystical, gnostic, and alchemical teachings of Jesus.  Mary came to embody these teachings and was empowered by Christ to deliver these teachings to the Western world.

Union – a Year of Spiritual Lessons and Practices with Mary Magdalene is a collection of lessons which when diligently applied, empowers the reader to experience the truth of Oneness (Union) that Jesus taught and which Mary Magdalene came to embody. These lessons were revealed to Lauri Ann Lumby through her intimate partnership with the Magdalene/Christ and support the reader’s journey toward remembering their original nature as Love.

Scripture as a Manual for Ascension

For the past 26 years I have studied scripture.  Beyond the scholarly, historical, contextual, sociological and theological applications of scripture, I have explored scripture through the practices of contemplative meditation and prayer.  I have also studied the Kabbalistic (the mystical branch of Judaism) interpretation of scripture.  With all of this, I have come to believe that scripture is much more than an interpretive history of the Jewish people, and much, much more than an historical account of Jesus’ life and teachings. In fact, to a true historian, scripture is neither of these.  Instead, as the Kabbalists would suggest, and which Jesus seemed to teach and demonstrate:

Scripture is an instructional guide for the evolution of human consciousness.

In more popular terms, scripture is a manual for ascension (self-actualization).  (Read here by ascension isn’t enough)

In order to approach scripture as an instructional manual and guide for the evolution of human consciousness, we first have to remove it from the trappings of patriarchal conditioning and control.

  • We have to move beyond the image of the Divine as the “old man in the sky” whose approval we have to earn and who will punish us for our human transgressions.
  • We have to move past the interpretations that mean to control us through intimidation and fear, threats of punishment and eternal damnation.
  • We have to keep scripture in its proper place, written in a specific time for a specific audience for a specific reason.
  • We also have to understand the literary genres which are in use – myth, allegory, poetry, song lyrics, reflective and interpretive history.
  • We have to take Jesus off the pedestal and we might even have to (gasp) stop looking to him as having saved us from sin or death and instead look at how he teaches us how to live!
  • We have to forget the idea that Jesus came to start a new religion or start a church. Jesus was a Jew and he remained a Jew.  His followers were practicing Jews until they were kicked out of the Temple.  Then they continued their Jewish practices in their own home, adding Jesus’ teachings to the mix.  None of what we now call sacraments were original to Jesus – these were all Jewish practices which the later Church decided to make their own.
  • Finally, we are invited to examine scripture as the Mystics, Prophets and Kabbalists would have (another topic for another time – was Jesus in fact a Kabbalist?) – through meditation and prayer, seeking out the message for each of us as individuals, along with the universal message of LOVE.

When we look past the patriarchal, fear, power and control trappings of scripture, we find a book that describes through myth, metaphor, allegory, story-telling (of people who may or may not have lived), poetry, song lyrics, and the remembered teachings of Jesus, how to evolve our human consciousness from a place of fear to an attitude and experience of LOVE.  Through scripture, we are invited to move beyond the natural fears and limitations of the human experience so that we can remember our truth nature as:

One with the Divine (Love)

One within ourselves

One with each other

One with all of creation

This experience of Oneness is the “salvation” that Jesus attempted to bring. Jesus had come to experience this “salvation” (authentic freedom) within himself, which he then attempted to teach others.  Using the manual that had been given to him (Hebrew scripture), he tried to show his friends the way.  After his death, his friends tried to remember what Jesus had taught them, created their own written interpretations of his words, and then went out to share this with others.

The true mission and intention of Jesus’ message got lost somewhere along the way. But in this case, what was lost is easily found.  When we follow the formula above, we are able to see the “ascension manual” hiding in plain sight.  To illustrate this, I have taken a passage from Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians and reinterpreted it in a language that we might more easily understand:

Concerning times and seasons, brothers and sisters,
you have no need for anything to be written to you.
For you yourselves know very well
that the day of transformation will come like a thief at night.
When people are saying, “Peace and security,”
then sudden disaster comes upon them,
like labor pains upon a pregnant woman,
and they will not escape.
But you, brothers and sisters, are not in ignorance,
for that day to overtake you like a thief.
For all of you are children of the light
and children of the day.
We are also of the night and of the darkness

But we are not blind.  We see and we know.

Therefore, let us not remain blind as the rest do,
but let us stay alert and attentive.
For the Divine did not destine us for punishment,
but to gain freedom through what Jesus taught us,
who showed us the path,

so that we may live in freedom as he did.
Therefore, encourage one another and build one another up,
as indeed you do.

Here are Paul’s original words as translated in the New International Version – Catholic Edition.

Concerning times and seasons, brothers and sisters,
you have no need for anything to be written to you.
For you yourselves know very well
that the day of the Lord will come like a thief at night.
When people are saying, “Peace and security,”
then sudden disaster comes upon them,
like labor pains upon a pregnant woman,
and they will not escape.

But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness,
for that day to overtake you like a thief.
For all of you are children of the light
and children of the day.
We are not of the night or of darkness.
Therefore, let us not sleep as the rest do,
but let us stay alert and sober.
For God did not destine us for wrath,
but to gain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep
we may live together with him.
Therefore, encourage one another and build one another up,
as indeed you do.

Only for the Serious Student

If you’re here looking for shiny objects, or for me to make false promises of happiness, riches, wealth, fame, then please move along. No shiny objects here.  The work I do and I offer here for you is only for those who are truly serious about:

Coming to know themselves.

and being freed of the inner obstacles to living that truth.

This work is not easy and it doesn’t happen overnight. It also does not happen without your commitment, persistence, determination, courage and resilience.  This is the difficult and challenging work of peeling back all the layers of woundedness, fears, false perceptions, ego attachments and societal conditioning that for years (if not lifetimes) have held you back from fulfilling your Soul’s purpose on this plane.  Until we discover and support ourselves in living that purpose we will “live a life of quiet desperation,” forever searching for that something outside of ourselves that will make us feel whole, complete, peaceful and content (money, our soulmate, fame, power, money, the house, the car, the purse, etc. etc. etc.).

The difficult truth that our society doesn’t want us to know is that the satisfaction to this desperate longing is not to be found outside of us. It can only be found within.  This is the truth discovered by some of history’s greatest spiritual teachers – Moses, Jesus, Mary Magdalene, Mohammad, the Buddha, the Dalai Lama, Amma, etc.  This is the truth I support you in discovering and embodying within yourself – that place where you will know your truth – the truth that sets you free.

While this work is not for the faint of heart, my purpose in sharing this work is to support you on that journey. To provide the guidance, comfort, support, you need to complete this task.  I won’t do the work for you, but I will support you in doing this work and help you to move through the inner obstacles that might tempt you away from the only task that matters – coming to know yourself and living from that place of self-knowledge.  Only in knowing ourselves and our highest truth are we able to find contentment, peace, joy and fulfillment in the human journey.  It is for this very reason we chose to be human in the first place – so that we might come to know who we are.

While this work is not for the vain, I will further support you in knowing that those who come to this work and complete it are rare. As this morning’s scripture reflects:

The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is of the earth belongs to the earth and speaks about earthly things. The one who comes from heaven is above all. He testifies to what he has seen and heard, yet no one accepts his testimony.  Whoever has accepted his testimony has certified this, that God is true. He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for he gives the Spirit without measure. John 3: 31-34

The gospel writer is referring to Jesus in this passage – one of the great spiritual teachers who came to know this truth. Who fulfilled his Soul’s purpose by coming to know himself and living that truth to its fullest.  The truth Jesus came to know was the truth of Oneness – that all are One in our Divine Source and that when we embody this truth in our human experiences, we find peace.  Jesus then went out to teach others how to experience this Oneness and in doing so, finding their own truth.

But Jesus did not make earthly promises. He didn’t promise riches, fame or power.  Instead, he spoke of “heavenly” things.  And very few listened.  As those who truly heard Jesus’ word and fulfilled it in their own life were rare – so shall you be.

If you’re looking for shiny objects, please move along. But if you are serious about the task of knowing yourself and living that to its fullest, here you will find welcome and support.
