In the Authentic Freedom protocol, the ultimate result of the work is remembering the love that we are. When we remember this love, we are free to birth our Soul – the uniquely creative way in which we have been gifted to find meaning, purpose and fulfillment in our lives and through which we are called to contribute to the betterment of the world. There are many avenues through which we have forgotten this love. Some suggest that it begins with the birth trauma when we are expelled from the comfort and safety of our mother’s womb, and continues through life experiences where love is denied, where our needs for nurturing, love and safety are not met, where we are taught that love has to be earned or can be taken away, where we feel criticized, condemned or negatively judged for who we are. It happens in the home, at church, at school and on the playground. Remembering this love is part forgiveness – forgiving the incidents where we were taught that we were not unconditionally and passionately loved and adored and part discovery – through practices in self-awareness, learning how truly amazing, unique and magnificent we really are. And finally, remembering this love is part Grace – something that happens in the place of mystery where we have no conscious awareness of the work that is being done within us in secret by the loving God who wants nothing more than for us to remember how much we are loved and that in fact, we are the very nature of love itself.
The following reveals the results of both a self-discovery practice as well as the mystery of Grace at work in my own journey of remembering the love that I am.
This exercise started two days earlier when I came to the awareness (through similar self-awareness practices) of my own patterns of self-deprivation. I became more mindful of treating myself with radical, loving self-care, nourishing and feeding my soul before even attempting “work.” This exercise was a subsequent step in radical self-love, resulting in a profound healing.
1) I tuned to the Metallica (yep, I’m a metalhead!) channel on Spotify, put in my earphones and cranked up the music full blast.
2) Then I pulled out my drawing journal and my oil pastels and just let my hand move.
3) As I was drawing, I wondered, “Am I actually creating something through this drawing…is the drawing practice itself making something else unfold/happen in my life?
4) After contemplating the drawing, the poem that follows simply flew out of my fingers onto my journal page.
Cherished and Adored
Nothing wrong with me.
Cherished and adored.
Knowing myself as sacred, precious
And beloved daughter.
Unconditional love reflected in their eyes,
And in their generous attention and care.
The center of their world,
A miracle to behold.
And receiving the fullness,
Expansiveness and depth of their love,
Knowing nothing of the demons
That would cause me to doubt and fear.
All my needs met in abundance,
Most especially the need to feel
Safely held in their loving embrace.
