Shredded by a Nation at War with Itself

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have been declared the projected winners of the 2020 presidential/vice presidential race.  While I voted for Biden/Harris I do not count this projected win as a victory.  After four years of violent division along political lines, no matter the winner of the presidential race, our nation has lost.  We are further lost by the fact that neither candidate seem to be interested in or capable of facilitating the broad-sweeping change that is truly necessary in our nation. Campaign promises notwithstanding, division continues to plague us with a political system that continues to be less about the people our politicians represent and more about those who pad their pockets.

But the point of this reflection is not politics.  It is about being an empath and what the past four years have been like for me and for my sisters and brothers who have been equally affected.  With all that has transpired over the past four years, I am having a difficult time trusting this “win” while waiting for the other shoe to drop.  The prophet in me doubts there will be a peaceful transition.  More importantly, I am seeing how the “two sides” still seem to be at war with each other and beyond the actions of the departing president, there are those on both sides who seem to want to continue the battle.

It is this battle that has left me feeling shredded.  As an empath, I have felt this battle deep within my own body.  I have felt the battle of our nation in every fiber of my being, experiencing the sensation of being torn apart as the nation has done this to itself.  Every fight on social media, every news story depicting people against people, every conspiracy theory, every Q-Anon campaign, every violent word that has come forth out of the mouths of my human sisters and brothers have torn me apart.

As a trauma survivor, I know well the symptoms of PTSD and my personal triggers.  The past four years have put me on high alert and have impacted me no matter how much self-care I have done, meditation I have performed, shadow work I have accomplished, or how many times I have reached out to my doomsday team for support.  To say it plainly, the past four years have SUCKED and there is not one side to blame.  (not to mention I don’t believe in blame anyway). We are all guilty of participating in this division, including myself.  And I am heartbroken over the way Americans have treated Americans in the past four years.  If I still believed in shame, I would say we should be ashamed.  But what we really need to do is heal.

And the thought of trying to heal the mess we have made of our nation is beyond exhausting.  I cannot even bring myself to entertain this idea or what it might look like.  As one who has carried the burden of this division and done all I can do to try to be a source of healing, I feel a little used up.  My set-point is hope, but truthfully, in this moment, hope is difficult to muster. Part of me has lost faith in the American people.  How can we be so cruel and hateful?  How can we be so ignorant of and uncaring about the needs of others?  Why must everything be a fight?  Why can’t we just get along?  I don’t understand it.

It is for all of these reasons that I have been and will continue to be quiet about the outcome of this election.  Until we learn how to come together for healing and in support of the common good, we have all lost.

Voting and Hoping for a Savior?

Sisters and brothers,

Why all the divisive language?  Why, as we are getting closer to the day of the presidential election, are we continuing the “us vs. them” rhetoric?  Rhetoric which is casting “the other” in the role of villain and our own favored candidate in the role of savior?  Are we voting and hoping for a savior?

If we are looking for Trump or Biden or any of the other presidential candidates to save our nation, we are looking and hoping in the wrong direction.  The salvation we are all looking for WILL NOT come from outside of us.  It can only come from within.

I know, to many that may seem like “whoo whoo talk” or sounds a little religiously familiar; but the truth of the matter is that the mess we have gotten ourselves into as a nation started with ourselves.  In other words, we have no one else to blame, and it is only our own actions that will bring forth any change.

You want to change the world?  Then change yourself!

The ills of our nation began in the desire to have power and control in worlds where we felt powerless.  Whether it was religious persecution or the longing for a better life that brought us here, or if we were dragged here in chains for the purpose of servitude, it was fear that brought us here.  Fear compels us to seek separation (if for no other reason than to paint ourselves as heroes and the other as the villain) and separation is exactly what has defined this nation even before those men signed the Declaration of Independence.

  • Male and female.
  • Black and white.
  • Civilized and barbarous.
  • Rich and poor.
  • Catholic and Protestant.
  • Educated and Ignorant.
  • Gay and Straight.
  • Republican and Democrat.

The list goes on and on and one.  It is separation that has defined our nation and this separation was brought about by our own hand.  As such, if we truly want to save our nation (it’s a good start in the direction of saving the world), then we have to put an end to separation.  But separation doesn’t end because we want it to.  Separation ends when we heal the wound that created separation in the first place.  Which brings me back to my original point:

If we are voting and hoping for a savior, we are looking in the wrong direction.

Saving our nation begins with saving ourselves and that is an inside job.  When we heal what is separate within us, only then are we able to be a vehicle through which the separation that plagues our world can be healed.  It starts with ourselves and it starts within.

The process is woefully simple, but I have found that few have the courage or tenacity to do this great work.  The great work of which I speak is simply this:

Learning how to love.

Learning how to love begins by learning how to love ourselves.  Loving ourselves is the natural consequence of healing all that is separate within us:  our fears, our past traumas and our fear-based conditioning.  Loving ourselves includes learning to love the parts of ourselves we have been conditioned to believe are unlovable – our vulnerabilities and imperfections; and most importantly – our shadow.  Our shadow is the accumulation of what we have rejected/suppressed or repressed inside of us along with all the parts of ourselves that remain unlived.

As we learn to love ourselves, we find that the walls of separation we have build around ourselves and others, begin to fall away.  Suddenly we have empathy for another’s pain.  We have understanding of another’s challenges.  We can see the world through the eyes of those whose experiences have differed from our own.  And we learn compassion. When we learn compassion we discover that there is beauty in diversity and that every single human being has needs that are worthy.

Most importantly, we learn what the ancients knew full-well, a species which is divided will destroy itself.  A species that can come together in cooperation and collaboration in support of the common good will thrive.

The only true savior is that which we can find within ourselves. Isn’t time we stop looking outside of ourselves for a savior and start looking within?

Readying Ourselves for the Week (Months) Ahead!

“THIS is exactly what we are facing today as a human collective.  What world do we want to live in?  What world are we choosing for ourselves?  Are we going to hitch our wagon to the dying world and accompany it in its death or are we going to choose the (as yet unknown) path to a new world – a new kind of human experience.  It is a battle both within us, among us and outside of us.  The decision that we make for ourselves will then determine the world we will be living in.”

Good morning sisters and brothers,

As many of you know, on Monday I got SLAMMED by a major energy push that resulted in vertigo, nausea and a 6 day migraine.  UGH!  In typical Lauri fashion I had to ask every question about what I could possibly have done wrong to warrant such a migraine?  Is it the medication I’m taking and the recent dosage increase?  Is it the weight I gained when hitting menopause (and helped along by the Covid shutdown).  Am I getting enough exercise?  Is it something I’m eating (or drinking)?  The weather?  Allergies?  Some deep wound that is trying to find its way out?  Any of the above?  None of the above? Sigh!

After several days of self-flagellating, moaning in pain and feeling sorry for myself, and then a few more days of punishing myself for “not being productive,” I did a DEEP DIVE and discovered one thing:

I DID NOTHING WRONG

Yes, this nothing wrong had something to do with an old wound trying to find its way out, but the more I tried to “work” on that wound the more there was truly nothing to do.  I simply had to see it and then let it be.

More importantly, the nothing wrong that I did, had absolutely NOTHING to do with me and

EVERYTHING TO DO WITH THE WORLD ON FIRE

Literally and figuratively.  As the literal fires burn around our world (prayers for all those in the line of these fires!), the world as we have known it is going up in flames.  The world that we have known, based in fear/power/oppression/and control is burning itself to the ground.  Can you feel it?  If this week’s “migraine” is any example, the world as we have known it is at war with itself. And it hurts!

If you think things have been bad (thank you Covid-19), just wait.  They are about to get a whole lot worse.  The energies of this inner war have been amping up all year and are not even close to reaching their climax.  If you are sensitive at all, you are feeling the heightened tensions in our world, the increasing division, the fear and anxiety about what is up ahead.  I hate to be the bearer of bad news but “up ahead” is no picnic!  In fact, it’s about to get really ugly:

  • Our kids are going back to school. If this doesn’t terrify you, you have not been paying attention.  We are about to embark on one of the biggest social experiments in our human history. We are sending 56.6 million (not including college) students back to school, along with their teachers and staff.  We have absolutely no idea if this is a good idea or a REALLY BAD idea and we have ZERO clue about the consequences of this decision.  As a mother whose children were once that age (thank God they are now adults) I cannot help but wonder if we are sending our lambs to the slaughter.  We might find that nothing happens or that something horrible will happen.  Either way, if you aren’t nervous about school starting, perhaps you should be!
  • The U.S. Presidential Race. OMG!  What a shit show!  It doesn’t matter on what side of the political fence you lean; it is all chaos!  Whether it is the fight over mail in ballots, obstacles to voting, the Covid-19 fears about voting in person, or the simple fight over who is a better man (?????) to run our nation, it is all insanity.  As one who for the past many presidential elections has voted democrat, I enjoyed many of the speeches of the Democratic National Convention, but I also felt the wave of reaction from those who lean toward “the other side.”  I also felt (and heard) the crying out from those who are looking for even more radical reform than a middle of the road Democratic ticket will produce (if any). I can also feel (palpably) the RNC readying their response.  The image I keep getting is that of stressed out monkeys in a cage who are flinging poo at each other.  Did I mention it’s a shit show?  Literally!
  • The Battle in Our Collective Consciousness – This, is perhaps the most painful while also being the most subtle.  I liken this battle to the same one I have repeatedly witnessed in those who are dying (or facing the possibility of death).  There is a profound moment where on a very deep spiritual and unconscious level, their Soul is deciding whether to stay or if they should go.  It is a deeply invisible and personal process that I have had the privilege of witnessing. I have never seen the moment of decision, but I have seen them in the process of making that decision.  The result of that decision shows itself in either the person “giving up the ghost” or making an often difficult but no-less miraculous return.

Our Personal Choice:

THIS is exactly what we are facing today as a human collective.  What world do we want to live in?  What world are we choosing for ourselves?  Are we going to hitch our wagon to the dying world and accompany it in its death or are we going to choose the (as yet unknown) path to a new world – a new kind of human experience.  It is a battle both within us, among us and outside of us.  The decision that we make for ourselves will then determine the world we will be living in.

Readying Ourselves for that Choice

But before we are able to make that choice, we have to arm ourselves against the increasing hysteria that will accompany the current world in its death throes!  Like the deeply invisible work of the Soul in its decision for life or death, we have to turn inward.  We have to go deep within ourselves……AWAY from the insanity of the dying world.  Think of it like one in the hospital constantly being poked, prodded, and assessed by nurses and doctors and how much of a distraction that is from the deep inner work needed to arrive at a choice.  The same is true for us.  We need to UNPLUG from the world “out there,” stay out of the fray of the battle, let those who need to battle throw their shit and BY GOD……STAY OUT OF THE LINE OF FIRE!  Inserting ourselves into the battle will only get us covered in shit.  Instead:

  • Go inward.
  • Be still.
  • Be quiet.
  • Exercise patience.
  • Trust in the unfolding of the Universe and the Divine plan for love.
  • Resist the temptation to engage.
  • Pray.  Pray.  Give your energy to love and share that love with a world profoundly in need of it.
  • Connect with your tribe.
  • Return to nature.
  • Engage in creativity.
  • Keep life simple.

It is only out of this quiet simplicity that our Soul decision can be made.  What is the world we want to live in?  What does it look like?  How does it feel?

As the world around us implodes upon itself, stay focused on the world of your Soul’s choosing and make every decision in support of that world.  As the world around you crumbles, behold your chosen world rising from among the ashes – not because some outside perceived authority (ie a President) made it happen, but because you did!

Trump Victory: Fear Begets Fear

So, we’ve made our choice? Donald Trump is the winner in the 2016 Presidential Election? As a bleeding heart liberal, I find this hard to believe and it’s a difficult pill to swallow (though Hillary wasn’t my first choice either).  Yet, I understand how and why Donald Trump won the popular and the electoral vote.  (To all those I love and deeply care for who voted for Trump – I love you and I honor the choice that you made.  Your vote (and I hope my vote) in no way, shape or form changes our relationship. PLEASE know this as you (if you) continue reading on.)

Donald Trump did not win because of his resume, his experience or expertise in governance, or his interviewing skills. We did not elect Donald Trump because we truly believed he was the best person to run our country and to represent the United States to the rest of the world. We chose Donald Trump because he spoke to our fears, while promising to rid the world of all that we fear:

  • Our fear of “the other” (blacks, Hispanics, Mexicans, the disabled, Muslim, powerful women, etc.)
  • Our fear of terrorism.
  • Our fear of losing our guns.
  • Our fear of losing our jobs to China and India.
  • Our fear of violence.
  • Our fear of losing our status as the “greatest power in the world.”

We chose Donald Trump because we are afraid and he capitalized on those fears. Fear begets fear.

"I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror... I fear something terrible has happened."
“I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror… I fear something terrible has happened.”

Now let’s go to the other side of the presidential race – for all of you (me included) who voted for Hillary, wrote in another, or refrained from voting…..you may now be quaking in your boots wondering what the hell will happen to our world with a Republican controlled Senate with Donald Trump as President. Let me remind you:  as much as fear elected Donald Trump, your fear over his victory will only serve to produce more fear. In fact, the fear that drove many to vote for Hillary in favor of Donald may be exactly what produced the outcome some most feared.  Fear begets fear.

So, what is the answer as we stand in the outcome of a presidential victory that came forth out of fear and has the potential for producing more fear…….CHOOSE LOVE.

First choose to love your fellow human being.  We all voted with our conscience and made the best choice we could with the information we had and the choices we were given.  Love one another.  Do not allow the outcome of this election to create more separation between us, instead, let it become a bridge to love and understanding.  Find out what our mutual fears might be and support each other in calming these fears.

Supporting each other in calming our fears, begins with knowing how to manage our own.  In every moment of every day where you find your fears and anxiety triggered over questions about the future of our country and the future of the world….turn away from your fear and turn toward love.

If you don’t know how to do this, check out my TWO FREE OFFERINGS:  My free online courses, Starting a Spiritual Practice and the FREE preview of the Authentic Freedom Mastery Program both offer tools and resources for moving from fear toward love, contentment and peace.  Click on the images below to learn more and to register!

Birthing the New World – Election 2016

Election day 2016 – THIS is the end of the world as we have known it.

No matter who is the winner (if one is actually determined today), this election marks the END of an era. The end of a world ruled by domination, fear, power and control (interestingly, represented on some level by both candidates). Yes, it may take a few months, or even years for the old world to completely collapse (we are in the midst of its death throes, and this election is the prime example of the “death rattle.”), but collapse it is. This election is ultimately not about the “winner,” instead it is about exposing everything that is wrong with our culture and the world we have created for ourselves – a world founded on fear, power and control.

EVERYTHING that has been founded on fear, power and control will be seen for what it is and will quickly die on the vine as the NEW WORLD is being born. A new world based in love, harmony, peace and unity where the needs of the all are considered over the wants of the few. This is the new world and it is being born right here in our midst – if we have the eyes to see, the courage to choose it and the sense to feel! Can you feel it?

“Can You Feel It”

The Jacksons

Can you feel it,can you feel it,can you feel it!

If you look around The whole world’s coming together now.

Can you feel it,can you feel it,can you feel it!

Feel it in the air The wind is taking it everywhere.

Can you feel it,can you feel it, can you feel it!

All the colors of the world should be Lovin’ each other wholeheartedly. Yes it’s alright, take my message to your brother and tell him twice. Spread the word who tried to teach the man who is hatin’ his brother, When hate won’t do ’cause we’re all the same Yes the blood inside of me is inside of you. Now tell me!

Can you feel it,can you feel it,can you feel it!

Can you see what’s going down, you can feel it in your bones Every breath you take, Is someone’s death in another place. Every healthy smile, Is hunger and strife to another child. But the stars do shine And promising salvation is near this time. Can you feel it now, So brothers and sisters Shall we know how. Now tell me!

Can you feel it,tell me can you feel it,can you feel it! Talk now can you see what’s going down open up your mind. All the children of the world should be Lovin’ each other wholeheartedly Yes it’s alright Take my message to your brother and tell him twice. Take the news to the marchin’ men Who are killin’ their brothers, when death won’t do. Yes we’re all the same Yes the blood inside my veins is inside of you. Now tell me!

Can you feel it,can you feel it,can you feel it! Can you feel it,can you feel it,can you feel it!

Satan, the Anti-Christ and the Presidential Election

It may interest you to learn that Satan is not a personal name.  Neither is Satan an external or personal, embodied force whose job it is to tempt us away from the good and into a life of “sin.”  Instead, satan (shatan) is a Hebrew word that means “inner obstacle or adversary.”  Satan arises out of our unhealed wounds and unresolved fears strictly for the purpose of healing and in support of our human journey toward wholeness and self-actualization.  While the opportunities for growth may manifest outside of us, their source is ultimately within.  From this perspective, satan is something to be welcomed as its arrival heralds an opportunity for profound personal growth.

DevilLegend2

As satan is the adversary and opportunity for growth that arises for each of us individually, the anti-Christ is that which arises out of the collective consciousness.  The arrival of the anti-Christ gives us an opportunity to acknowledge and support the healing of our collective unhealed wounds and unresolved fears.

There have been many times throughout history where an individual has surfaced who embodied the voice of the collective fear and then became that voice, stirring their respective audiences into actions that initially caused great destruction, but ultimately served to bring about profound transformational healing and change.  Jim Jones, Adolf Hitler, Napoleon Bonaparte and Osama Bin Laden are four historical examples of the embodiment of this collective fear, which was then acknowledged and supported in its healing after they were deposed (but sadly, only after much suffering).

In the current political race, there have been many comparisons between some of the presidential candidates and historical anti-Christs. Whether Donald Trump, Jeb Bush, Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, or some other candidate is your personal version of the anti-Christ, I would suggest that it is ultimately NOT about the individual candidate, but is instead about our collective fears and unhealed wounds.  Instead of projecting our collective unhealed wounds onto a particular candidate and allowing their embodiment of this fear to govern our culture and our society, the invitation is to do the even more difficult work of healing these fears and wounds within ourselves.  When we do this, collective healing begins to manifest, making the role of the anti-christ unnecessary, or at the very least, making them powerless over us.

The fears that are being played out in the presidential race are those that have produced a culture governed by power and control (lust), motivated by fears that have manifested through patterns of conspicuous consumption, gluttony and greed.  These long-standing patterns have left the majority of the culture (and the world because of our gluttonous actions – there is a reason the rest of the world hates us!) hungry, poor, sick, unemployed and underemployed, leaving us feeling powerless over those who seem to be making the decision about how we live and rule our lives.

The president, no matter how good he or she is at their job, is not going to change these patterns; neither are our senators or congressmen (non-inclusive language intentional) because at the end of the day, the hierarchical, patriarchal system out of which our government was created, is itself, part of the problem.  (Fear begets fear.  Power begets power.  White male privilege, begets white male privilege.)  The only way in which these unhealed wounds and unresolved fears are going to be healed is by our own actions. It is only by our personal commitment to our individual healing process that the collective fears, and therefore our culture (and the earth), will be healed.  And it is only by our own actions that he or she who might otherwise embody the energy of the anti-christ will be supported in being otherwise, because the embodiment of the anti-christ will no longer be needed.

Authentic Freedom Academy provides tools through which you are empowered in healing your fears and unhealed wounds.  Check out our classes, workshops and one-on-one mentoring services to learn more.

Fear Begets Fear – Thoughts on the Upcoming Presidential Election

If there is one thing I have learned in 20 years of supporting women and men in becoming their most authentic, self-actualized self, it is that fear begets fear.  Most specifically, when we make decisions based in fear, we get more fear.  Our lives become smaller, more constricted, we suffer from unhappiness and a deep sense of being unfulfilled.  When we make decisions, instead, from a place of love, peace, contentment and truth….or when we wait for the decision to arrive that reflects these qualities, our experiences of love, peace, contentment and joy increase.  Our life takes on a sense of meaning and we feel fulfilled.

Fear + Fear = More fear.

Love + Truth = Contentment and peace

As this mathematical equation is true on an individual basis, so it is on the collective. It would be helpful to bear this in mind as we approach the 2016 presidential elections.

election 2016

When we choose a candidate who capitalizes on our fears, who paints a picture of fear, who attempts to create separation or capitalize on existing or growing systems of separation, then this is exactly what we will get – a country that is more polarized than it already was before, stepping out into a world creating more separation.

If, on, the other hand, we patiently wait for the candidate to step forth who will speak to us of truth, who seeks to bring us together instead of attempting to separate, who desires to support a political system and a world that works to build rather than tear down, who speaks about practical means of healing the separations in our country and in our world….then this is what we will get – a country that is able to come together as one, working together for the common good, and then doing the same as it goes out into the world.

As for myself, I haven’t yet decided who I want to vote for. Quite frankly, I’m not thrilled with any of our current options.  What I do know is that I will be making my decision based on love and truth, not on fear, because love and truth is what I want to see in our world, not more of the fear that has ruled for the past 5000 years.

(PS What holds true in electing a president, holds true for all elected officials.  Fear begets fear!  What kind of world do you want to live in – one that tears us apart through fear or one that brings us together as love?)

Eyes of the Prophet

The eyes of a prophet discerning Spirit.

Seeing beyond the veil that seems to masks the eyes of others.

Seeing the truth that stands not behind, not beside, not within,

But that which stands in front of the illusion,

“Here I am, this is who I am really, not the one she sees or that everyone else sees, this is my truth.”

Clear, radiant, glowing, joyful, at peace and content,

Though on her cheek, a tear of sadness

for the ones who dare not see, acknowledge or live in this truth.

She waits in patience for the vessel to be ready to let that light shine.

Seeing with eyes that see beyond the veil

Of lies kept hidden, secrets kept, betrayals, deceit,

Eyes shifting, gazing downward, revealing discomfort.

Seeing with eyes that know the truth behind the lies, the fear, the guilt, the shame,

All nurtured to keep deceit alive.

The prophet sees and knows.

Seeing with eyes that see beyond the veil of denial.

There is a map, a timeline, a vision

Of things to come if what is now in place continues to choose the way that is familiar,

“It will not end here….this shall be next.”

And it is.

Endings. Doors are closed.  And death.

Seeing and knowing this is what would be

If fear is chosen over love.

And yet, there is a light. And the light is love.

Seeing with eyes that see beyond the veil of despair,

Knowing that even in death there is the promise of new life,

If we but open our eyes and see.
