Where is the Kingdom of God?

For anyone raised in a traditional Christian household, Heaven is considered to be the Kingdom of God and what we spend our lives trying to attain. If we are good enough -follow the Ten Commandments, do what Jesus told us to do, be like Jesus, then maybe – only maybe – we might get to go to heaven when we die.  Heaven is the place of eternal peace, somewhere “up there” (in the clouds or something) where we get to see those who died before us and hang out with the angels and saints.  But if we aren’t good enough, we will be cast into the fiery pits of hell where we will suffer for all of eternity.

This threat of eternal damnation is the weapon used by institutional religion to mold us into a people afraid. We are afraid of the jealous, wrathful God whose love we have to earn and which can just as quickly be taken away.  We are afraid for all the ways in which God will punish us in this life when we misbehave.  We are conditioned to believe that every moment of suffering and pain is God’s way of punishing us for things we don’t even know we did.  I mean – for real – this version of God has been punishing all of humanity since the beginning of time for Adam and Eve’s disobedience.  We’re being punished for something we didn’t even do!

This is how institutional religion gains its control – by putting us in an ever-anxious place of fear and trepidation – looking over our shoulder for any wrong we might have done, shaming ourselves over that misdeed, and then doing everything we can to make ourselves right with God. We go to mass. Give money to the church.  Fast. Abstain from life’s pleasures.  Oh wait…..it sound’s an awful lot like Lent – the 40 days set aside in the Church calendar in which we are expected to make ourselves right with God.

But here’s my question – if we believe in the God that Jesus taught – the one of unconditional love and mercy – then where and how could we ever have gone wrong with God? The answer is that we cannot.  God loves us no matter what.  At least that’s what Jesus said.  Jesus spoke of a God who loves without condition; who seeks mercy not sacrifice; and who is forever standing at the gate with arms wide open waiting to welcome our return.  And there is no question about our return!  There is no other place that we can go after we have completed this human experiment but back to the Source from which we came.  That Source is God. At least that is what we’ve been told.

BUT we don’t have to wait until we die to be in the presence of eternal love. Even in the perceived separation of the human experience, we are never separate from God. Jesus said so!

When All Else Fails…..Ask for Help!

In our quest to be rational, independent, self-sufficient human beings, there is one thing we continue to forget:

WE ARE NOT ALONE!

We are not alone. And, we cannot do it alone.  When we believe otherwise, we are suffering from the compulsion of pride.  Forgetting the central truth of the human experience – we allow ourselves to suffer alone.  Most specifically, we forget that we have a Divine Parent we can turn to for help; and for those of us who call Jesus our teacher and our guide, we can always turn to Christ; and if we are of a Catholic disposition, Mother Mary and the Saints provide additional support.

We are not alone. And yet we continually struggle in remembering this truth. We think we can do it ourselves.  We believe we have to do it ourselves….and our culture supports this false believe.  We are conditioned to believe we are responsible for our lives and our livelihood.  If we are suffering it is our fault.  If we are poor it is because we haven’t worked hard enough.  If we are ill, it is a punishment from God or karma.  Everywhere we turn we are told to do it ourselves, don’t ask for help, be self-sufficient, “you are the creator of your life.”

To that final comment: No, we are not!  Contrary to all “New Age” beliefs, we are not the creator of our lives.  God is.  More specifically, our life is an unfolding of God expressing God’s self in and through us.  It is a co-creation….NOT a “ME” creation. Our life is a partnership with the Divine and when we remember this truth, life simply unfolds and all that is happening is Grace…even if what is happening is difficult. The “difficult” is there for the purpose of our learning and inner growth and through this learning we come to know more about ourselves and in coming to know ourselves we come to know God.

But there are those days….those days when we feel as if we have handled all we can handle, done all that we can do, faced all the demons we could face, fought all the battles we could fight. There are those days we have done everything we can think of to make it through the challenge before us (these days never happen when things are flowing in a positive direction).  We have named our demons and worked on healing them.  We have identified our triggers and worked on releasing their source.  We have chanted, prayed, meditated on scripture, and spoken in tongues, and still the challenge remains…or rather, our unrest related to the challenge.

This is when we are invited to remember….

Lessons on Loneliness

sadwomanpixabay

I have had many conversations with fellow mystics on the topic of loneliness. As mystics we ARE different from the norm, usually pretty far-left of center. Many find it difficult to relate to or understand us. Others are hesitant to draw near because of the light we shine on the love they are, which they are perhaps not yet ready to be. We think, move, act, believe, see, differently and some find this disturbing. All this is reason enough to feel alone, set apart, even lonely. But there is an even greater source of our loneliness and it is God. More specifically, the call of the mystic, above all else, is to know God/dess, and it is through loneliness that God calls us home to ourselves and home to God. As I recent wrote to a student, fellow-mystic and spiritual sojourner:

Mystics always feel some sense of loneliness and isolation.  It is the other edge of this double-edged gift.  On one hand, we experience God more intimately and as One.  On the other hand, we long for more of this.  It is the “loneliness” that keeps us seeking God, seeking that experience of Oneness.

Our human inclination is to believe there is something wrong with us for feeling the deep ache of this existential loneliness. We judge ourselves. We wish for this aching emptiness to go away. We seek after the remedy to this loneliness by looking for things outside of us (including other people) to fill the void. What we end up finding is simply more emptiness, for there is nothing “out there” that can fill this void. Instead, we are invited to go into the loneliness for it is here we shall find God/Self. Again, as I shared with my student:

Transformation comes when we realize that loneliness is the GIFT that compels us toward God and that it is GOD we are lonely for – nothing else (which keeps us from looking “out there” for something to fill our emptiness – and emptiness that can only be filled by God). Don’t despair of the loneliness.  Don’t chase after its remedy.  Welcome it and accept it as part of your gift.

The loneliness and deep sense of isolation that plagues the mystic is in fact, our greatest gift. The loneliness that society tells us to judge and which we therefore are tempted to resist is actually God calling us into an ever-deepening intimacy. It is in entering into the loneliness, welcoming it, becoming comfortable with it that we find God and in finding God we find ourselves. And if more loneliness remains, we are called to remember that it is only God calling us even deeper into the love that we are and to dare to even go there. As there is no limit to the love of God and the love that we are in God, there is likely no end to the loneliness. When we accept this truth and cease from judging, resisting, or trying to rid ourselves of this loneliness, it is here that we find peace.

The Soul Knows – Finding Our Way in Life

If there isn’t a “God out there” to guide us (Read Parts I and Parts II of this week’s series “God Does Not Save”), then where do we find the guidance we need to navigate this thing called life? (cue Prince…. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gD4F2n9pKiw   )

When leaving behind the idea of the “old man in the sky God” who is out there, puppet mastering our lives, or mostly leaving us on our own to suffer the “slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,” there is no longer someone “out there” to turn to for guidance, support, direction, comfort and healing. The most frightening thing about leaving behind the “old man in the sky God” is the fear that we really are alone as atheists or nihilists might suggest. This is absolutely not true. Instead of looking to the “God out there,” we turn within and look toward ourselves.  Specifically, we look to our SOUL…..the Divine within us that is seeking to be known in the world through us….the part of us that is guided by FREEDOM and by LOVE. The Soul is the Divine within showing us our path and helping us to see and to know what is showing up in support of the path the Soul has chosen for itself in this life – the life it chose to live and experience through us.

compass-pixabay

I think of the Soul as our “truth barometer” or as our inner compass. This is the voice that speaks to us of love, of freedom, of joy, peace, harmony, and expansiveness.  But more than speaking, the Soul recognizes. As St. Ignatius of Loyola observed, the Soul’s recognition is known through physical and emotional sensations that like a magnet of sorts, help us to know what is and is not in support of our Soul’s purpose or desire.  That which is not in our Soul’s purpose feels “bad.”  That which is in our Soul’s purpose feels “good.”  But this is not the same kind of good and bad we normally think of…but is more accurately known through subtle sensations that St. Ignatius identified as consolation or desolation. Consolation is the feeling of expansiveness, helping us to feel peaceful, content, whole, joyful and which leads us toward love.  Desolation is known by feelings of limitation, confusion, doubt, worry and fear.  Discernment is the process we use to identify which voice is speaking….desolation (not consistent with our Soul’s purpose) or consolation (consistent with our Soul’s purpose), and then to choose which voice we will listen to.

The Soul is the Divine living in us and trying to be itself through us and the Soul is guiding us toward its own purpose if we would only listen to it. In every moment of every day, the Soul is speaking and it is telling us through subtle and sometime obvious cues if we are following its true path or not.  Everything that happens in our daily life is there to serve the purpose of the Soul and in every encounter the Soul tells us where we are on the path by how we are feeling in the encounter and by how we choose to respond.  If the encounter is challenging, the Soul will guide us toward a response that is life-giving, compassionate, loving, non-violent.  The ego/false-self will guide us to respond from a place of fear, anxiety, worry, the need to control.  The Soul helps us to recognize those who will be a source of support in our Soul’s path and those who will be a hindrance.  The Soul tells us which opportunities to pursue, which jobs will suit its purpose, what environments will support it and where we are called to live and how we are called to spend our time.  Again, we need simply listen to this inner compass, this truth barometer to know where we are going and how to get there.  The challenge is that for most of us, we have been taught to listen to everything else BUT our Soul.

We have been taught to listen to the outside perceived (and often self-appointed) authorities for guidance and it is their voices who often become the voice of our false-self. These are the voices that govern through fear and who use guilt to manipulate.  These are the voices that become our inner critic and who speak to us in “shoulds.”

For Jesus, these voices were those of the religious authorities who questioned his methods, his motivation and his “God.” These were the voices of “Satan” who tempted him in the desert and in the Garden of Gethsemane.  These were the voices of Peter and the other disciples who wanted him to be their Warrior King, instead of their teacher of love.  These were the voices of his family who demanded him to stop embarrassing them through his teachings.  These were the voices of all those who tried to tempt him from his path of knowing the LOVE that he was and in knowing the God that dwelled within him, and the voices of all those who wanted to stop him from sharing this “secret” with others.  Instead of listening to these outside (and inner) voices of fear, doubt, critique, condemnation, etc., he chose to listen to the voice of his Soul – the voice of the Divine that lived in him and found its purpose through him.

The same will be true for us when we listen to the voice of the Soul. No one said it would be easy (and Jesus demonstrated), but it is the voice that leads us toward our truth and to a life of freedom where our life has meaning and purpose and where we are fulfilled in living this life for our own sake and in support of the betterment of the world.

We are all Gods – When the Divine Within Reveals Itself

I said, ‘You are “gods”;     you are all expressions (children/creations) of the Most High.

Psalm 82: 6

Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I have said you are “gods”’.  If Abwoon called them ‘gods,’ to whom the word of Abwoon came—and Scripture cannot be set aside— what about the one whom the Creator set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, ‘I am the Creator’s Son’?  Do not believe me unless I do the works of my Creator. But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, so that you may know and understand that the Creator is in me, and I in the Creator.” 39 Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped their grasp.

John 10: 34-39

Since the inception of Authentic Freedom in 2003, I have been teaching what Jesus taught – that we are ONE with God in love and that remembering this Oneness is the balm that heals us and restores us to inner peace in the face of the challenges and struggles of the human experience.  Authentic Freedom was developed as a process and a protocol for inner alchemy – returning to this original state of Oneness, thereby bringing us into wholeness within ourselves and achieving what alchemists would call  the philosopher’s stone, what psychologists refer to as “self-actualization” and what the religious recognize as “mature faith or mature spiritual development.”  Here we know who we are, we know our unique giftedness and we are empowered to share these gifts for the sake of our own fulfillment and in support of the betterment of the world.

AuthenticFreedomcover

It is one thing to know that we are one with God.  It is another thing to KNOW that we are one with God.  The former is an intellectual knowing, the latter is an embodied knowing recognized in the felt sense of this ONENESS which is further known by a deep state of inner peace, wholeness, and love.  One is centered in the mind.  The other, is a true KNOWING  -centered in the heart and felt in the entire body.  Here one is grounded, whole, complete, content, unflappable.  THIS is the “kingdom of God” that Jesus often referred to and the GOAL of our human experience – to be fully human while KNOWING this state of unflappable contentment.  Jesus knew this. The Dalai Lama knows this.  Amma knows this.  We too are invited to know this.

For twenty-three years, after first getting a glimpse of this Oneness with God, I have practiced the HOW. I have meditated, entered into contemplation and deep reflection, read and studied scripture.  I have practiced movement meditation (Chi Qong and Yoga).  I have listened to meditative music, practiced journaling and meditative drawing.  I have voraciously read every book I could get my hands on describing the spiritual journey, inner alchemy, the psychology of transformation, etc. etc. etc.  I have DONE IT ALL.  After (and while) doing, I created a curriculum and taught.  And then I wrote a few books.  In this journey, I learned of Jesus’ oneness teachings and built the foundation of all my practices, courses and writings on this teaching.  I knew I was One with God, and in the course of this work have gotten glimpses and fleeting experiences of this Oneness.  But I didn’t truly KNOW it.

Now I do. (at least for now, because the Irish in me knows that this KNOWING might very well be a moving target and a fleeting sensation….but for now, it feels really good and in truth, quite stable.)

My experience of getting to this place of KNOWING I am One with God and that the Divine dwells within me as ME has been no easy task! It has been very much as Jesus described, like trying to fit a camel through the eye of a needle!  In order to fit through that needle’s eye, I have had to let go of EVERYTHING I have built my life upon,  EVERYTHING I thought I knew about myself, EVERTHING which has felt, if not safe and secure, at least familiar.  In this process, I have had to let go of dreams of fame, riches (or just plain financial stability for that matter!), notoriety, the illusion of good health, perfection, self-righteousness, pride.  I have been made to let go of century-old grudges, forgive those undeserving of forgiveness, and made to learn how to love my enemy.  I lost my health and entered into a 6 month process of healing and then surrendering to medical support that I have spent 16 years trying to avoid.  Currently, portions of my business are dying and I’m losing the home I have come to love and am forced to find lodgings elsewhere – something I’m finding is no easy task for a family of 3 in a university town.  In short, I have been pushed to the place of having to LET GO of EVERYTHING I have come to know about myself, my vocation and my day-to-day life.  I have also had to ask for help in more ways than I have ever had to ask before.

letgopixabay

This has been my journey for the past 19 months. Letting go.  Letting go.  And letting go some more.  Emptying.  Emptying.  Emptying.  All the while HOPING that this emptying was taking place so that something amazing could come in.  I had no idea that this something amazing might be God.

Then it happened. First in a dream.  Sunday night/Monday morning I had a crazy dream.  In the dream were all the animal totems who had previously come to me in dreams, visions, meditation – wolf, panther, owl, bat and dragon.  At first the dream was about the externals, but the more I meditated, the more I realized the totems were all aspects of my own inner gifts – wolf  = magic, safety and security and the support of the pack.  Panther = my own inner strength and power to protect and defend myself.  Owl represents my own inner wisdom and gifts of seeing and hearing.  Bat is the part of me comfortable and secure in working in the shadows – in confronting and transforming fear, darkness, that which we suppress and repress.  Dragon is my Soul’s power and the inner force that carries me.

Then, yesterday morning, while meditating on Jeremiah:

“For I am with you, to deliver and rescue you, says the Lord. I will free you from the hand of the wicked, and rescue you from the grasp of the violent.”

I pleaded with God that this would be so….that God would rescue me from the pain I have been experiencing as the letting go continues.  Suddenly, while allowing myself to “hear” the God out-there say these words to me, the God out there was no longer out there.  Instead, the voice of comfort came from within me – originating in the place somewhere in the center of my heart, but feeling as if it was coming from my whole being.  And, I no longer saw God as “the old man in the sky,” instead “God” was ME – a bigger, more substantial, whole, confident, content, secure, complete, version of ME.  In this experience, I felt whole, complete, as if I was suddenly my whole and true self – I was Me and it was MYSELF who is the source of peace and comfort within me.  No longer is the source of comfort “out there” in some fickle god who “giveth and then taketh away.”  God is ME within MYSELF but even more than simply being within, God is ME.

Lauricurtsie.jpg

Now I understand and KNOW the ONENESS about which Jesus spoke. God is me and I am God.

But this ONENESS is not just for me. As the Psalmist and Jesus both say above, what is true for me is also true for you, for we are all God – God in me and God in you.  God is me and God is you.

How are you invited to KNOW the God that is you?

Welcome Home – Human 2.0

This has been a very interesting week at Authentic Freedom Academy – both personally, and professionally.   The theme of the past 18 months has been LET IT GO (cue Elsa) and there has been more and more letting go than anyone could have imagined back in January of 2015 when this all began (it really began LONG before that….this was just the compressed, hurry up and get this sh.t done version of YEARS of letting go and moving on!).

And thank God/dess we had no idea the extent of the letting go or we may have quit before even getting started. Because this is ultimately what all this LETTING GO has been about……to prepare us for a WHOLE NEW BEGINNING…..

DSCF0035

And this new beginning is HERE and it is NOW (cue the Fifth Dimension…literally).

First of all….take a deep breath and allow yourself to rest for just a moment in all you have accomplished on your own personal journey:

It started by learning how to connect with your God-self, rediscovering the bliss, peace, contentment and love that your Godself IS. For awhile you may have felt as if this was the key, the purpose of the life journey – to learn how to be God.  But if you are like many others you learned the hard way that this is NOT what the human journey is about as you struggled to pull yourself up out of the pile of mala beads and zafu cushions with angelic choirs ringing in your ears, disappointed, despairing, lonely and BROKE because your life purpose HERE is not to be God (we are already gods).

Your purpose here is to be HUMAN. But not the kind of human we have been accustomed to……instead, we are here to BIRTH a NEW/ORIGINAL way of being HUMAN.

HUMAN 2.0 is not about being human as we have known it – fearful, separate, angry and violent. Human 2.0 is also not about being God.  Instead, Human 2.0 is about being HUMAN in the way that Jesus was human, in the way that the Buddha was human, in the way that the Dalai Lama, Amma, Anandamayi Ma, Yogananda, and many others who have gone before us have experienced their human/godself.

ascendedmasters21

Human 2.0 is about the complete and full integration of our Godself and our Humanself…..not escaping the human condition so as to be God, but allowing our Godself to be fully embodied in our HUMAN self. In other words, Human 2.0 is about God living IN and THROUGH us – or another way to put it – God walking around on this very planet in our bodies.  We are God walking around in flesh.

The funny thing about Human 2.0 is that this is in fact as it has always been….we just didn’t know it because of the veil of separation we chose in taking on the human condition so that we could evolve the human condition to where we are today (are you dizzy yet???).

Which brings me back full circle. WELCOME TO THE NEW WORLD!  A world in which we KNOW our Godself.  A world in which we live from our Godself.  A world in which we act as Gods – allowing LOVE to guide and direct our lives and acting only from this place and perspective of LOVE.  ONLY from LOVE.

We have arrived….even if we aren’t quite feeling it yet….we are here, exactly what we came here to do and why we’ve struggled through the last several years of what often felt like HELL. (Cue Panic at the Disco!)

Which then brings me back to full circle again….this has been an interesting week at Authentic Freedom Academy and it is because of this week’s theme that I know we have arrived. EACH and EVERY client (and in my own work that preceded this week) who set foot in my office this week exhumed the deepest, darkest of their core wounds and brought them to the surface to be healed and released (congratulations WARRIORS….you did it!…cue Imagine Dragons!).

The moral of the story is that there is NO BAGGAGE ALLOWED in the New World. We do not get to step fully into our Original SELF with the remnants of our Core Wounds still intact.  We must be purged, freed, released and healed of our CORE WOUNDS so that we are once again free to live as our original self – FULLY HUMAN and FULLY DIVINE.  In this we know beyond the shadow of a doubt that we are LOVE and that every situation we encounter arises in service to this LOVE.  If the situation seems to trigger our fear, our anger, our hurt or our shame, it is because there are parts of us that still don’t know we are LOVE.  If a person triggers our fear, etc. it is because a part of us have forgotten we are LOVE.  From this perspective, we are done with blame, resentment, transference and projections and only live in search of where LOVE wants to be known in us.  Or as Jesus said, “Love your enemies.”

Welcome to the New World – a world built out of love, for the sake of love, in service to love where we know the LOVE that we are and where we allow this LOVE to live in and through us.

In other words: WELCOME HOME!

The Function of Divine Will and Divine Timing in Unity Consciousness

A big title for a big topic.  This is what came through today as I was pondering the question of how manifesting, timing, etc. function in Unity Consciousness.  Who knew I’d been judging it all from the perspective of separation – until today!  When we transcend separation, this is what happens:

ayurvedy-kundalini-img-sm

In Unity Consciousness (or what some might call Christ Consciousness), there is no such thing as “Divine Timing” or “Divine Will.” In Unity Consciousness, we are freed of the false perception of separation such that there is no separation between ourselves and God.  Instead, the separate mind steps aside so that the Godself can live in and through us through our unique being.  In this state, God’s will becomes our will – manifesting as our needs, our wants and our desires. The separate mind, no longer afraid, simply says “YES” through a state of deep, inner knowing, that which is known as right and true, mostly in our hearts.  In this, everything arises in the perfect way in the perfect time and we are inwardly guided to act at the exactly perfect time in the exactly perfect way in support of what is now our heart’s desire. We are no longer waiting for “Divine will” to be revealed or for “Divine Timing” to play out because if the desire is in our heart, it is Divine Will and the time is now.

How about that to make our brains explode.  Explains a lot and now I will be testing this theory.  Test it out yourself too and let me know what happens!

Love,

Lauri

The Secret Cure for All that Ails Us.

(If you missed my “Building the New World” report yesterday, read that HERE.)

“The secret cure to all that ails us,” isn’t much of a secret really. In fact, this “secret” is known by every great teacher that ever walked this earth (Jesus, the Buddha, Moses, Mohammad, Amma, Gandhi, The Dalai Lama, Thomas Merton, Meister Eckhart, Teresa of Avila, John of the Cross, St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi, Ignatius of Loyola, Julian of Norwich, Hildegard of Bingen, Paramahansa Yogananda, Black Elk, The Thirteen Grandmothers, etc. etc. etc. This “secret” that has been discovered by the most revered teachers of every culture is…..(drumroll please)………

ONENESS

The Dalai Lama speaks of this oneness in the context of compassion. The Buddha spoke of it as presence or essence. Moses knew it as the voice of God within him who guided him and his people. Teresa of Avila experienced it as ecstasy. St. Ignatius experienced it as consolation. Jesus spoke of it as being One with God and he experienced this Oneness as love. Every great teacher discovered this truth within themselves and then sought to teach others how to experience this Oneness and how this Oneness was the cure of all that taints the human experience – pain, anxiety, suffering and death. Experiencing and knowing Oneness allows us to transcend the inherent pain and suffering of the human condition and it is in this state of Oneness that we know “the peace that surpasses all understanding.”

It is one thing to speak about Oneness and to understand it in our minds. It is another thing entirely to have a personal, lived experience of this Oneness as I was reminded just this past week. While I have had many glimpses into this Oneness over the course of the past fifty years, enough so that I understand and can speak with authority about Oneness, not until this past week did I fully comprehend or even experience Oneness and never before had I experienced Oneness to the extent that it was in fact too much for me and I had to run away. After a week of processing, I’m happy to come back to this Oneness….but first the story of finding the cure.

The Journey to Oneness

My experience of Oneness happened in the context of a shamanic journey in which I was carried away in a dreamlike vision in search for the answer to a question that resided deep in the center of my Soul – the question about fully embodying the call of my Soul in this life. In the journey I was greeted by one of my spiritual guides/teachers who often accompanies me on shamanic journeys. He grabbed my hand and ran with me to the world in which I would journey. When we arrived in that world it was night. As we stepped across the threshold into the journey world, I beheld a multitude of beings flanking us on both sides. I sensed the beings as my teachers, spirit guides, angels, saints, ancestors, loved ones – all present in spirit form offering their support. In the blink of an eye, my guide turned into a jet-black dragon while also being present in human form to “drive” the dragon. He grabbed my hand and pulled me atop the dragon and off we flew into the night.

We flew up and up and up across the journey world – past landmarks and places I had experienced in previous journeys. We flew up and up and up, out of the atmosphere of the earth and toward the full (blood) moon. We flew toward and then past the moon and continued out into space, past all the known planets of our galaxy, out beyond our galaxy and toward the constellation of Orion. We flew past Orion and on to the star cluster of Sirius. We then flew past Sirius, deep, deep, deep into the center of our known Universe toward what scientists refer to as “The Galactic Core.” The Galactic Core is what is beliefed to be the center of the Universe and the theorized Source of the original “Big Bang.” It is also out of the Galactic Core that our current experience of Wave X has its origins. Holding tightly to my guide as we flew atop the black dragon, we flew closer and closer to the Galactic Core when I became aware of a rhythmic pulsing emanating from this core. Wave after wave after wave of vibrating and pulsing energy came at me from this core which I suddenly realized was a heartbeat. Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom – resonating the steady heartbeat at the center of the Universe.

DSCF3146

God IS the Universe!  We are the Universe!

Then it hit me, this heartbeat which is thought to be the Source of all of creation and the origin of all that is known and unknown in our Universe is GOD. God has a heart and God’s heart resides in the center of our Universe and is the origin and source of all that is. Then my mind and vision began to expand – the Universe and all that is known and unknown in the Universe is the actual body of God and the galactic core is God’s heart – beating out a continuous and rhythmic pulsating vibration that I keenly identified as LOVE. Love. Love. Love. Love. – the steady heartbeat of the Universe/God that emanates from the center of all that is and which, in fact, is the cause and the source of all that is. Love. Love. Love. Love.

As I connected with this experience of God as the Universe and God’s beating heart as the galactic core of the universe and the center and source of all that is known and unknown in the universe – then my brain exploded. If God is the Universe and all that is….and we are part of all that is…..then we are part and parcel of God. If the Galactic Core is God’s beating heart than here on earth, we might be God’s big toe and each of us a pulsing cell within that toe. Equally, we might be God’s left eye – reflecting and refracting back to the Center of the Universe, to the beating galactic core of God’s heart all that God wants to see. In other words – if God is the Universe and we are part of the Universe then WE ARE ONE WITH GOD. And what we experience in this place of being One with God is LOVE. A love that is beyond what we can comprehend – a love that is all encompassing, embracing us in rapturous ecstasy. A love that destroys all that makes us small and elevates us to our original nature as ONE in LOVE. Living as love, out of love and for the purpose of love. Love. Love. Love.

THIS is the truth that sets us free. THIS is the cure to all that ails us. Love that made and flows steadily throughout the entire universe and beats steady and pure from the center of all that is. We are one with this love as part of the living universe and one with this love through our own beating hearts. Love is all there is. All there is is love. When we know this we know peace, contentment, joy and love. THIS is the reason for all our restlessness, boredom and longing – LOVE calling us home.

Building the New World – Nay to the Naysayers!

So, how did you fare through the past week’s Heave-Ho into the new world? If your week was anything like mine, you experienced both the heights of ecstasy along with the depths of despair. While many were hopeful for an immediate entry into, and experience of, the new world, most of us were either disappointed and/or caught unaware by the backlash that often comes with periods of rapid delivery.

There can be no doubt about it – with the conclusion of the full blood moon lunar eclipse and the culmination of Wave X, WE ARE CHANGED. We have indeed crossed the threshold from 3D (separation consciousness) into 5D (unity consciousness). The challenge, however, for most, is that (as we often forget), when we make such enormous leaps toward God(oneness), the small self fights back and the trickster raises its ugly (only when we judge it as such) head. The trickster/small self shows up to challenge us, “Are you sure this is what you really want? Wouldn’t you be more comfortable staying where you are with the fears and compulsions with which you have become so familiar?????” And then, trickster shows up AS these compulsions.

Fear. Judgment. Self-doubt. Self-loathing. Anxiety. Depression. Envy. Rage.

For me, this is exactly how the trickster showed up, in dramatic contrast to the TRUE miracles that unfolded in the past week: – VERY generous donations to the house-buying campaign; miracles happening in the lives of every one of my clients, students, readers; witnessing the true growth of my business; fantastic insights and personal growth in the “Create As Love” course I’m taking with Lauren Gorgo; a shamanic journey that showed me the TRUTH of our ONENESS with God (more on this later). These were the miracles.

Then the trickster showed up in: worries about money; self-doubt and bargaining; computer glitches that made me step aside from technology for a few days; and the biggest trickster of all – NAY-SAYERS. One after another after another person showed up questioning, challenging, doubting, staring blankly in the face of my vision, mission, and the decisions I’ve made in order to uphold the vision that is planted in my heart. Most pointedly, trickster showing up telling me all the ways I’ve done it WRONG and that perhaps I should throw in the towel and get “a real” job. Hah – that old story!!

The trickster, showing up in the bodies of others, but ultimately reflecting back to me my own:

Fear. Judgment. Self-doubt. Self-loathing. Anxiety.

But you see, I KNOW what I am here to do. I KNOW my mission and purpose in this life. I KNOW I’m damn good at what I do. AND every time I think about or even try to “get a real job” the Universe puts up one obstacle after another and then plunges me into the depths of desolation (which Ignatius of Loyola recognized as the energy of the adversary). Indeed, in order to accomplish this mission, I have had to do things in a very non-3D way – taking great leaps of faith and going against societal, financial, tribal “shoulds” in order to support this mission. To one with 3D (fearful) eyes, the choices I have made might look strange, if not a little insane. To 5D (oneness) eyes, there is no judgment – only what had to be done in a fearful world to help bring forth a new world of LOVE. In order to bring forth the “unconventional” world of love, unconventional tactics have had to be employed.

So, the trickster showed up to give me an opportunity to retreat into my small-self (fear), or strengthen my resolve in the mission of my Soul.

If you are reading this blog, you too have been gifted with the same idea of a mission and purpose for you in this life. Likely, you feel deep in your heart a desire to help BRING ABOUT A NEW WORLD. You have grown tired of a world ruled by fear, power and control. You are exhausted by all the things in the world that cause us to do harm to ourselves and to one another. You are frustrated and tired of the struggle that the majority of humanity faces just to put food on their tables and a roof over their head. You long for a different kind of world:

  • A world in which people are loving toward themselves and toward one another.
  • A world in which the needs for food, clothing, shelter, education and healthcare are satisfied for all.
  • A world in which people are acknowledged for their own unique giftedness and then nurtured and empowered in the use of these gifts because we know that the world becomes a better place when all are fulfilled in their gifts and empowered to use them.
  • A world where all people are treated with dignity and respect and where we honor each other in our respective beliefs and the choices we make that fulfill the deeper longing in our hearts.
  • A world where violence is rare and peaceful collaboration and cooperation are the rule.
  • A world where love rules and where fear is recognized as a cry for help and appropriate healing methods employed.

This is the world that you came to help humanity build. You too have been told you were crazy for dreaming dreams of a better world and for wanting to do something about it. The good news is that you are not alone and that WE have now reached critical mass and our voices, while still somewhat quiet, are becoming the majority, if they weren’t already. We long for a NEW WORLD built on love and one that seeks to HEAL the fear that has kept us imprisoned for 10,000 years!

So, if the nay-sayers show up in your life as you are in the midst of entertaining or working for your dreams – recognize them for who they are – your small self trying to remain small and showing up in both people outside of you and in all the voices in your head that say, “You can’t do that,” and then make a choice. Choose to stay small and afraid, or heed the voice of your SOUL that says, “YOU ARE SO BIG because you are made of LOVE and love is infinite.” And then PLEASE be your BIG self, because the WORLD NEEDS YOU!

Beyond Church Part 2 – What People Really Need

Somewhere around 1995, I was hired by the local Catholic Campus Ministry (Newman Center) to implement and facilitate a program for adults joining the Catholic faith. Developing the curriculum and facilitating this program proved to me what I was already beginning to understand about what people REALLY need when it comes to matters of the Spirit and inspired within me a desire to be part of something that gives people what they REALLY need.

StMarysinterior
Let’s start with what people DON’T need:

We do not need to be forgiven. If we believe what Jesus taught and what early theologians say about the meaning behind Jesus’ death and resurrection – we have already been forgiven (not that there was anything to forgive in the first place…but that’s a whole other blog post). Yes, we need to be open to an ongoing process of forgiveness – forgiving each other 70 times 7 times, and we need to be open to the grace of forgiveness over our own non-loving acts (freedom from the shame we feel, release from our resentments and reconciliation with those we’ve harmed). But if God loves us without condition, then simply by our desire to be healed of the brokenness we feel within ourselves and the hurt we may have caused others, we are already forgiven.

We do not need to be saved. If Jesus died and rose from the dead to save us and if this has already been done, what more saving is needed? If there’s anything we need saving from, however, it is ourselves – from all fear that arises out of the false perception of separation which then cause the non-loving acts we commit against ourselves and others.

Nothing needs to be earned. If God loves us without condition as Jesus taught then there is nothing to earn and nothing to be taken away. God loves us – PERIOD. More pointedly, if we believe in the truth that Jesus died for (Oneness with God), then there is really nothing to earn. God is love. We are one with God. Therefore, we are love. Period! We don’t have to earn our way into heaven and heaven will not be denied us. It is heaven on earth that Jesus was concerned about and this is the legacy he left behind.

If it is true that we do not need to be saved or forgiven and nothing needs to be earned, then what role and purpose is there for church? Of course there is a place for Church (religion) in the world – first as an outward cultural expression of spirituality; and as a cultural way to formulate and enforce what the culture agrees to be acceptable behaviors between human beings. Church is also a way to express our human need to be culturally connected (ie. Find our tribe). And church is important for those who believe they need to be saved or forgiven and who believe heaven is something they have to earn.

Whereas churches can provide a great container for cultural norms, and offers to some a sense of belonging and others with comfort for their own inner shame or sense of unworthiness, I would argue that there are deeper needs that most models of church are failing to address. In my own journey and in providing ministerial support for over 20 years, beginning with the program for adults joining the Catholic Church, here is what I have observed to be these deeper needs.

People need to know they are loved.
People need to feel safe.
People need to know they matter – that their unique personhood is of value.
People need a life which has meaning and purpose.
People need unconditional loving support.
People need connection (to feel they belong).

To these I would add one additional need that is unique and specific to the modern world in which we are living – a world that becomes more and more global every day and which is being decimated by our misplaced need to be right and to have dominance over the earth and over another:
We need to be freed of the ignorance, fear and false perceptions that cause us to separate ourselves from the earth and from one another. We need to know we are One within ourselves, One with the earth, and One with each other (and ultimately ONE with God).

Authentic Freedom Academy, through our programs, services, writing and publishing, seeks to help people find the fulfillment of these deeper needs – for the sake of the individuals and ultimately in support of the betterment of our world.
