The Great Upheaval

We are living through the time of the Great Upheaval.  Everything in our world that was built on the foundation and for the purpose of fear, power, oppression, and control is in some form of collapse. Governance, education, healthcare, the capitalistic-corporate culture, the industrial model, etc. etc. etc.  Everywhere we look, we see systems on the verge of collapse.

As is true for all experiences of loss, there have been several responses to this collapse:

Denial.   Bargaining.  Depression.  Rage.  Sorrow.  Acceptance.

Denial:  “Everything is fine.  Nothing’s wrong with the current system.  Let’s just continue with things as they always have been.”

Bargaining:  “If people just had the work-ethic of my generation, all would be well. If  younger people would just get off their devices…”

Depression:  “I had to close my business because no one would work.”

Rage: “It’s ‘their’ fault that the world is like this.  Let’s wage a war/protest against ‘them.’”

Sorrow: “I’m deeply sorrowful for the changes I see happening in our world.”

Acceptance:  “I see and understand all these external symptoms as signs of impending death and I am hopeful for the new world that will come forth out of these long-needed changes.”

The world in which we have been living and the systems that have created this world are not and have never been sustainable.  We have created for ourselves a feudalistic system in which the many are slaving away for the benefit of the few.  Corporations and their shareholders are reaping the benefits of their employees work while hoarding wealth for themselves.  Educational systems are geared toward churning out obedient workers for the system while ignoring the growing needs in our culture for innovation and creativity and the specific educational needs of those primed for the future and not for the past.  Post-secondary education has turned into a capitalistic/money-making corporate scheme. Healthcare flounders because it is no longer geared toward the care of the patient.  Instead, healthcare has become about profits and the wealth of stockholders.

These are just a few examples of how the upheaval is presenting itself in the systems in need of change.

Other examples of this upheaval are evident in those who were born to help bring about the change and who are here to plant the seeds and nurture the growth of the new world.  Let me offer a few examples as I have witnessed them as both a mother and an advocate to the generations who are bringing forth this change:

  • Young adults refusing to work in environments where their needs for respect, a living wage, work/life balance, etc. are not being met.
  • Young adults finding innovative and create ways to make a living (entrepreneurial ship, online businesses, social media, making a living through their creative abilities, etc.)
  • Technology: our young people intuitively know how to work with emerging and the ever-increasing advances in technology. They have harnessed this ability and daily come up with new ways to use technology for the greater good of our world.
  • Global Awareness:  The younger generations think globally and locally, with an eye to how our local actions impact the larger world.
  • Acceptance of Diversity:  The younger generations are far more accepting of diversity and are finding increasing ways to honor and celebrate this.
  • Education:  Children and young adults rebelling against an educational system that doesn’t work for them.  Young adults refusing to invest in a university education because that model no longer guarantees good work with adequate pay, more importantly, the current model of higher ed has not changed to meet the needs of a changing world.
  • Connectivity: Our young people are more connected than we ever thought of being.  Thanks to technology, they are able to communicate with the world, have found their tribes, and are working together to bring forth change.

These are only a few examples, but ones that are likely to spark judgment and condemnation from those benefitting from the status quo.

This judgement is another face of grief.  If we judge the young ones for their “strange behavior,” then we can condemn them and continue in our comfort with the status quo while ignoring a world on the verge of collapse.”

As is true of any death, it is appropriate to grieve, but we can only remain in denial for so long. Eventually the truth comes to bear. Death is the only outcome of a system beyond repair.  When we open our eyes to the symptoms of that death and look toward the possibility of new life on the other side of this death, we find comfort and hope.  I, for one, am beyond excited for what the youth among us will do to bring forth the new world after the current one is gone.  The good news is that they are already doing.  We must simply open our eyes and release our temptation to judge, then we shall see it clearly.

What are you seeing as signs of a new world coming into form?

Care without Caring

My dear sisters and brothers!

This week’s “Authentic Freedom Weekly Lesson” will be less of a “lesson” and more of what I hope will be a source of encouragement and support as we move into the school year, the approaching winter and what promises to be a stressful time for individuals and the collective alike.

We are continuing in our movement through the death of “the world as we have known it.”  As we’ve discussed time and time again, that which was not built on Love is in the midst of its collapse.  The system built on fear, power, oppression and control, and everything that is part of that system is imploding due to it being inherently unsustainable.  As Jesus himself observed:

“A house divided against itself cannot stand. (Mark 3:25)”

We are that house.  Humanity is that house.  As a species, we have built a world based on separation and division – and it cannot stand. We have seen the proof of this throughout history as one empire after another has brought about their own collapse.

Collapse, however, does not need to be thought of as a bad thing. The eternal promise of death is that new life is waiting on the other side. On the other side of the collapse of the Roman Empire, for example, was the Renaissance.  This is what we are here for – to bear witness to the collapse, while holding space for the new that is waiting to be born both within and on the other side of this collapse.

Bearing witness and holding on to hope, however, can be difficult when all the world around us is losing its sh*t.  As caring people, we can’t not feel the pain that others are suffering, and we can’t help but feel in our own bodies the anxiety and fear that seem to currently define our world.  Our hearts can’t help but break over the increasing division as human beings, who have no skills for identifying and managing their own anxiety, react in non-loving ways.  This is where the training and practice we have cultivated, perhaps for a lifetime, becomes critical.  In the face of collective collapse, we have to learn how to care without caring.

To care without caring is to cultivate the ability to hold the world in loving compassion without being negatively affected by the world in its death throes. To master this skill, we have to:

  • Hold ourselves personally accountable to our own anxiety and fear. Recognize when we are being triggered by the world “out there” and instead of reacting, turning our gaze inward to the unhealed wound within us that was triggered by “out there.”  Engage the practices you have learned to support the healing of that wound.
  • Maintain an ongoing, daily, spiritual practice. Whatever that looks like for you – DO IT!  Maintaining our practice does several things:  a) raises our resistance to anxiety, b) provides a foundation of inner peace that grows with practice, c) helps us to see through the eyes of the Truth, rather than through our conditioned seeing, d) helps us to develop and maintain witness consciousness, and e) helps us to develop equanimity – the ability to maintain peace amidst the tragedies and joys of life.
  • Unleash ourselves from our co-dependent conditioning. We cannot save that which needs to die. We cannot save people from themselves. We must care for ourselves before we can be a source of support for others.  As Sr. Judy Miller once told me:

“The most loving thing we can do for those we love is to do what is most loving for ourselves.”

  • Seek out support when we feel like we are hitting the wall. Have your “doomsday” team on speed dial and reach out when needed.  Seek out more professional support when that isn’t enough (lauri@authenticfreedom.love).
  • Create the space you need to witness the world in its dying, feel the world’s sorrow, and grieve it. It’s appropriate to be heartbroken when we witness the violence our species has done to itself, our world, and one another.  We can’t fix it, but we can grieve it.  Remember that grief includes:  shock/trauma, denial, bargaining (“if human beings would just…….”), anger/rage, depression (and all its faces) and deep sorrow.  Cry. Take a day in bed. Whatever you need to do to survive the world’s dying.
  • BUT DO NOT get dragged down into your own destruction by the dying world. DO NOT let it destroy you!  DO NOT die with it. And for Goddess’ sake, DO NOT SACRIFICE YOURSELF OR YOUR NEEDS FOR THE SAKE OF A DYING WORLD!  As the prophet Hosea spoke on behalf of God:

“I desire mercy (compassion), not sacrifice. (Hosea 6:6)”

Caring without caring is ultimately about watching the world as it destroys itself while not getting caught up in the destruction.  We cannot stop the world (as we know it) from dying, nor should we try.  We cannot convince anyone of anything they do not want to believe, neither can we change the minds of those caught up in separation. All we can do is watch while holding those caught up in the death in loving compassion.

The Divine irony of caring without caring is that in doing so, we are creating the safe space that is needed for the seeds of the new to take root and begin their germination and growth.  In caring without caring, we are doing our part in creating the new world that will be waiting for humanity on the other side of this collapse.

Thank you for being a part of the new!

With love,

Lauri

Turning a Corner – Whew That Was Rough!

Authentic Freedom Energy report 2/22/21

I don’t know about you, but the weeks since January 1 have been a DOOZIE!  I guess none of our prayers for relief in 2021 were answered – or rather, the answer was, “Oh honey, we’re not done with you yet!”

Since January 1, it seems we have experienced one crisis after another in what can only be described as a “nail biter.”  I’m sure our astrologer friends have some insights into how the planets have been involved, but since I’m not an astrologer, I can only speak to what I have been and am continuing to see.

In short – we, as a collective, are moving through what may be described as the greatest transformation in the history of humanity.  Whether we are aware of it or not, we are discarding old, outmoded systems and clearing space for something new to be born.  This discarding, clearing and rebuilding is at once personal and universal, microcosmic and macrocosmic, Einsteinian and Quantum, visible and invisible.  The transformation we are moving through is all-consuming and requires of us everything we have.  If you are feeling exhausted, this would be why.

I know I’ve said this a billion times, but we are clearing away 5000-8000 year old systems of fear, power, oppression and control.  Many of these symptoms are obvious (hierarchy, patriarchy, etc.), many are much more subtle.  The work to clear away these old and unsustainable systems is a full-time job and require, if not our undivided attention, our complete involvement.  That involvement is sometimes obvious, more often subtle and even invisible.  It is certain, however, that we are involved in some way shape or form – whether we are aware of it or not.

On one hand, we have those who are playing the role of comply-ers.  These are the folks who are clinging to what has been.  Some of this clinging is obvious – as in the siege on the Capitol on January 6th. Some is much more subtle – as in the reactions of the older generations to the youth of today – expecting these children and young adults to follow the rules that had been laid out for the children of the 50’s. The comply-ers have benefitted from the old (dying) systems and want those systems to remain, and are doing everything in their power to defend those systems.

The deny-ers are those who are here to envision and/or build the new world.  We are the ones who came here to call out that which no longer serves, to break our own chains of bondage to those systems and clear the space for something new to be brought forth. We are the ones witnessing to the death of the old world and clapping the dust of the old off our hands as we gratefully walk away. We are the shit disturbers, the catalysts, and the grim reapers – cutting out the old to make way for the new.

Finally there are the builders.  This group has been mostly silent.  They are lying in wait for their time to come.  Some are stealthily planting the seeds of the new while at the same time, bringing the powers that be to their knees (ie: Gamestop/Reddit).  Others are quietly defying the old systems while standing wholly in their own truth.  These are the ones who have discarded outmoded hierarchical expectations and power-over cultural conditioning.  These are the ones for whom respect and trust has to be earned, and authority is never assumed.  One will never see blind obedience in this group as to them, everything is questioned – and rightly so.  They are wise and intelligent, and they apply sound reasoning and discernment to every experience in their lives.  These are the old souls who have come to build us a new world.

I mention these three groups because we are all here to play our role.  We are comply-er, deny-er or builder and we are all necessary parts of the working design that is carrying us out of the old and into the new.  As every machine requires friction to operate, so too does the grand design that is bringing us into a new world.  Forget about Spaceforce 1, this is New Earth NOW!

The actions, interactions, and friction that are the product of this working design are being felt by all of us.  We are weary, worn out, frustrated, and grieving as we witness the ongoing struggle for the NEW while the old fiercely clings.  The degree to which we are struggling with this transformation is proportionate to the degree of our clinging.  If we have expectations for things to be a certain way and are disappointed to find out they are not, it is our expectations that have gotten in the way.  If we are hurting because we have been given another opportunity to leave something behind to make way for the new, then we are human.  Every human being is part of this grand design and we are all playing our roles – and it is hard.

The past two months have been especially difficult – which is to be expected as we carry our dreams of being free of the past year into the new.  2020 wasn’t over on December 31st!  In fact, we are only now approaching the true energies of 2021.  Can you feel it?  It’s subtle, but it’s there.  It’s like a tiny whispering gentle breeze has blown in – like a warm spring breeze (even as Texas is freezing).  We have successfully made it through seven harrowing weeks of deep inner and outer transformation.  AND WE ARE STILL HERE.  Congratulations!

Now, give yourself permission to take a deep breath.  Leave 2020 behind. Congratulate yourself on a journey well-done.  Comfort yourself for what you have grieved and been made to leave behind. And ready yourself for whatever is next for you in the grand design plan.  It is not something that can be sought after, or even planned.  But you will know it because it will be standing right before you, offering itself to you.  In the meantime, be compassionate toward yourself and even more compassionate toward others.  We are all playing our role in the grand design and unlike the old system that makes winner and losers, in the grand design, everybody wins.

Creating Our New World Now!

My dear sisters and brothers,

As I mentioned in our spiritual service on Friday, there is a great turmoil approaching – one even greater than what we have experienced before.  The death throes of the old world are even more palpable than before which I am currently feeling in every cell of my body in the form of an underlying anxiety that is most definitely NOT my own.  I have nothing to be anxious about in my personal life which means it can only be coming forth from the world at large.

I recently heard myself saying, somewhat jokingly, but not really, that if a certain outcome happens in November that “I am going underground.”  Then two things struck me:

  • No matter the outcome in November, mass chaos will prevail, and from November 3rd until likely mid-January there will be a great wailing and gnashing of teeth. I don’t like to suggest doomsday, but it may be a good idea to be prepared in the event of massive civil unrest and the initiation of martial law.
  • Why am I waiting until November to go underground and what exactly does underground mean to me?

While I have no control over the outcome and the consequences of November, I am in complete control over how I choose to live my life.  Underground has always sounded good to me – who doesn’t want to live in a cave in the woods?  While I’m not currently living in the woods and there are no caves nearby, and it is unlikely that I will be moving location anytime soon; none of this prevents me from creating my own underground in the world in which I am currently living.

Underground begins with a few simple steps:

  • Unplugging from any activity, relationship, endeavor, etc. that are no longer life-giving.
  • Eliminating those things which drain me emotionally, physically, and spiritually.
  • Examining my Soul for those things that nourish, support and enliven me, and then making these a priority.
  • Setting boundaries around my time and my use of time.
  • Saying no to people, activities, etc. which are not life-giving.
  • Being open to TRIBE. Watching for those of similar resonance and connecting with this individuals as a source of mutual honor, respect and support.
  • Have my doomsday team on speed-dial – those I know I can call on (and visa versa) when I hit the wall or am about to have a meltdown.
  • Clearing my field of anything that takes me away from my own well-cultivated field of inner peace and contentment.
  • Be open to how my Soul is being called to serve and doing it.
  • Saying NO to any societal conditioning, expectations, etc. that are not in resonance with my own truth.
  • Living my own truth, unapologetically.

As it turns out, going underground is really my own way of creating the world I want to live in in the midst of the insanity and instability of a dying world.  Building our own world is first an inside job – we have to feel it inside of ourselves first.  Our new world becomes a reality when we begin to choose that which supports the inner contentment, peace and fulfillment we have cultivated within.  We don’t need the world to be finished with its dying before choosing our new world and living in it.  We simply need to choose it each and every moment of each and every day.  If I could give an image to my own new world and what underground looks like to me, it would be something like this:

What does your new world look like and how can you begin to choose it?

Surviving the Shit Show!

Last night we had a ZOOM gathering of the Authentic Freedom community and we discussed the coming 6-9 months and what is likely on tap for our world.  You don’t have to be a prophet to see what is up ahead, though those who gathered are prophets in their own right.  You also don’t have to be an astrologer, but astrology is certainly confirming what many of us already intuitively know.  Really, anyone with eyes to see and a splash of logic can see what is happening……and while there is GREAT GOOD getting ready to emerge, things are likely to get a whole lot worse before they get better.

This is what we can prepare for in the coming months (and if it doesn’t come to pass, then we are no worse off for having approached the coming months with caution and lots of support):

  • Just today the President threw out the proposal to delay the November election. Funny (not funny) thing is that we spoke about EXACTLY THIS last night.  While the President doesn’t have the power to act alone in this decision, that hasn’t stopped him in the past…..so be ready for this very real possibility.
  • SHUT DOWNS. I am 100% certain we will be facing another shutdown in the fall/early winter related to Covid 19.  If not a government mandated shutdown we will at least be seeing schools and businesses making difficult decisions for themselves around how to stay safe and keep their staff, etc. safe with a virus raging.  My “spidey senses” tell me that Covid is going to get a lot worse before it gets better and we STILL don’t have the appropriate measures in place for proper prevention and treatment.  Masks certainly help, but try keeping a mask on a 5 year old!
  • More rioting. Civil unrest is not likely to halt.  People are pissed off – and rightly so.  Yes, there are some who are simply rioting for rioting’s sake, but underneath the chaos is hundreds of years of oppression trying to find its way out.  This oppression is not simply about race, it is about gender, sex, poverty, homelessness, lack of adequate resources, etc. etc. etc.  in the so-called “land of freedom,” people are waking up to all the ways in which they are not truly free.  In case you haven’t figured it out yet, we are in the middle of a revolution – one that is sorely needed.
  • Martial Law: This term has been thrown around a lot lately, but not from a place of hype. This term has surfaced from among those I know who are “in the know.”  Those who are former military or closely connected with the military who understand how and under what conditions martial law is ordered.  What does this actually mean in a nation as geographically expansive?  I imagine it will be a bit of a shit show – one hand not really knowing what the other is doing and people making it up as they go along.
  • Economic Collapse I’ve been predicting this for a LONG TIME! The U.S. economy is already a house of cards and the first Covid shut down initiated a market crash, the likes of which this generation has never seen.  But it’s not even close to being over.  Don’t even bother hoarding your cash, because when the bottom truly falls out, even your hoarded cash won’t have any value.

As in every single time I receive a prophetic message that looks bleak, I hope and pray that these visions will not come to pass.  But so far I’m batting a thousand.  So just in case my intuitive sense (reason and logic) are on-point, here is what you can do to prepare yourself and your loved ones so that you can survive the coming months and be made ready for the new world that will begin to show itself sometime early next year.

  • GOOD NEWS AHEAD know that there is good coming out of the current and future disaster. We are truly witnessing the death of an empire so that something new can take its place.  We don’t yet know what that new is, but it will involved new models of everything we have known:  governance, finance, banking, religion, healthcare, education, commerce, etc. etc. etc.  The new promises to be more just, more equitable, more compassionate and more harmonious.  But what is and has been first has to die before the new can begin to come forth.
  • SELF CARE SELF CARE SELF CARE I cannot say this enough! DO EVERYTHING that helps you stay healthy and emotionally well.  And then do it some more.    Exercise.  Healthy food choices.  Fresh air.  Community.  Meditation.  Spiritual Practices.  Spend time in nature.  Creative activities. Massage.  Body work.  Acupuncture. Dance.  Sing.  Netflix and chill!  Do it and do it some more.  YOU are your first priority.
  • Loved ones get priority: Forget the world “out there” and its pressure to conform. DO WHAT IS RIGHT for yourself and your loved ones.  For example, if that means doing virtual learning with your kids this school year, then do it.
  • Reach out to others: For example: Don’t forget the family next door who might not have the freedom to do virtual learning but wants to.  If you are supporting your kids in virtual learning, reach out to a working family and see if their kids need support.  During shutdown, if you know of someone who cannot leave their house for food, but you can, offer to help.  We can do these things safely.
  • Gather Your Doomsday Team gather around you those who you trust to be a source of support. RECIPROCITY is critical at this time.  We all need those we can go to when the bottom falls out and those who we are open to supporting when the same happens for them.  We have been conditioned to give, give, give, but not to receive.  The new world begins with reciprocity, and it starts by insisting on this in our own lives.
  • SUPPORT SUPPORT SUPPORT Support can come in any number of ways!  Online groups, communities, podcasts, etc.  Find those of like mind and hang with them.  Attend their gatherings.  Join their groups.  ACCEPT the support.

In short, YOU ARE NOT ALONE in this and there are a million ways we can support ourselves and each other as we move through this insanity of a world in its own collapse.

Toward that end:  If you haven’t already, please consider membership with the Authentic Freedom community.  Learn more HERE  For the remainder of the year, I am making all offerings available for every membership level.  Please allow yourself to accept this support.

Facing the Death of the Global Empire

As an empath, shadow worker, Reiki master practitioner and energy healer, I am often called to stop whatever I am doing and send healing energy/intentions and prayers to someone or something in need.  This morning was one of those times.  I was at the yoga studio intending to do my Monday morning yoga practice when my body became completely immobilized.  I found that my body could only sit with my hands held in Reiki position.

As in the times I am sharing Reiki professionally with those who need it, as I was holding the Reiki position, I began to see images and receive feelings of who/what needed this healing.  I was not surprised to learn that it was the world.  The people of the world are afraid and justifiably so.  The global empire is collapsing, and it is the United States which is at the center (perhaps even the cause and the effect) of its demise.

My purpose here is not to provide a political discourse on the global history of conquest or man’s (gender intentional) competition for power.  It is to speak to those who are afraid because whether they are aware of it or not, the world around them is dying. I’ve been seeing the symptoms of this collapse and have written about it for years.  In a nutshell – that which was established on a model of fear/power/oppression and control is collapsing.  And THANK GOD/DESS.  We are facing the inevitable end of an unsustainable system.  And if the system doesn’t destroy itself, the human race will be facing its own destruction.  So yes, this is a necessary (for our survival) death and many, if not most, are ill-equipped to identify, let alone manage, the inherent human response to death.

For those who are familiar with the grieving process, we are witnessing a collective grief response.  This explains every over-reaction we are witnessing in American culture:

  • Increasing attention to the shadow aspects of our culture (racism, sexism, genderism, nationalism, religionism, etc. etc. etc.)
  • (violent ones especially).
  • The ongoing argument over mask or no mask.
  • Real news vs. fake news vs. conspiracy theories.
  • And just the simple increasing division among human beings. When everyone seems to be taking sides, you can bet we are facing the death of something.

All of these proportionate and disproportionate (especially the disproportionate) reactions are quite simply a collective response to death.  If there is one thing that death does to us is trigger our need to have control; and if there is one thing we know about death – WE ARE NOT IN CONTROL.

We are not in control of the death of the global empire.  We cannot stop it.  We cannot hasten it along.  We cannot prevent it or assuage it.  There is absolutely nothing we can do but stand back and watch it happen. For most humans, this is easier said than done, if not downright impossible.  Unless we have sought this knowledge on our own, we have not learned how to deal with grief, let alone the death of an entire global system.  Neither have we been trained in how to let go – unless we have been one of the (un)fortunate ones who have had control ripped from our cold, dead, fingers.

So what do human beings do who don’t know how to let go – they seek to manipulate and control.  Hence the increasing chaos we see in our nation and therefore in the world. Human beings do not know how to die.

But there are ways that we can help each other in this dying.

  • We can begin to speak about the death of the global empire.
  • We can begin to acknowledge any fears or anxiety we might have around this death.
  • We can begin to transform those fears through meditation, mindfulness, depth and shadow work, healing practices and just the plain act of talking about it with each other.
  • We can acknowledge the faces of grief and become attentive to what face of that grief we are currently experiencing: shock, denial, bargaining, depression, anger, sorrow, acceptance.
  • In identifying the face of grief, then we can begin to work with that face of grief, bringing ourselves into the acknowledgement of our own sorrow over the dying and weep for what has been and will be lost.
  • We can try to hold our brothers and sisters in compassion, refraining from judgment in recognition of the grief they are perhaps not even aware they are facing.
  • We can hold each other in love.
  • While burying the dying system, we can pray for humanity’s healing.
  • We can look forward in hope for the new world that is already making itself known and which will fully emerge after the old world is put to rest.

Let it Burn!

Make no Mistake!

The world is burning itself to the ground.

The “fall of Rome” on a global scale.

The end of what was born of fear, power and control

on the backs of the poor

benefiting the powerful few.

An unsustainable model –

We have created our own demise.

Let it burn.

We cannot save it, nor should we try.

But we can grieve.

We can grieve the loss of the life we have known.

We can mourn over the certain carnage that will accompany this dying.

We can weep for the lives and innocence (ignorance) lost.

As we witness the revelation of

Every

Single

Evil

Humanity

Has

Heaped

Upon

Itself.

The truth is being laid bare for all to see.

We may try to deny it, (denial is a face of grief)

But it will continue to knock on the doors of our hearts

Until we are able to listen

And see

And feel sorrow

For those whose loss

has been another’s gain.

Will we be able to live with ourselves

After all the truths have come to light?

Will we be able to look our brother and sister in the eye?

Will we allow ourselves to feel the shame for

Every

Way

We

Have

Benefited

From

The

Denigration

Of

Others?

This is our moment of reckoning.

And we will decide if humanity survives to create a new world

Or

If

We

Will

Die.

The choice is simple

and the fate of humanity depends on this choice.

Continuing to choose separation guarantees our death.

Choosing Oneness will bring forth a whole new world.

What will you choose?

The Reapers Have Come

The Reapers Have Come

The world as we have known it is dying.

The sorrow of the world rests like a weight on the surface of my skin.

The tears of the world threatening behind my eyes.

Like an anvil on my heart, the gravity of a world in pain

over what it does not know.

Kicking and screaming over “liberties lost”

Or cowering in the darkness hoping to escape death’s gaze.

We cannot run.

Neither can we hide.

The reapers have come to harvest what we have sown.

Poverty, injustice, hatred, intolerance, destruction of our planet, and war.

We’ve done this to ourselves.

There is no one else to blame for a tide that cannot be turned.

All we can do is let it run its course,

Cutting away all that no longer serves,

And burning it on the pyre of transformation.

Only then will the ground be cleared of the impediments to new life.

Seed that lay dormant beneath the ravages of man,

Awaiting the liberating flame, clearing the path for their return –

Bringing forth new life and the creation of

A whole new world.

It’s Really Ok to Grieve

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that we are currently traveling through the death of the world as we have known it.  I also know that death, in this case, is not an ending.  Instead, as the old world is imploding upon itself, a new world is beginning to be born.  While we may have hope in the new that is coming forth out of this dying, it is also important to grieve.

Grief is the miraculous process that we have been given to move through that which is ceasing to be.  Grief creates the pathway through which we can release the old while making way for the new.  Grief, when engaged in fully, also helps to heal us from the loss so that we might be open to receiving the new life that is promised on the other side of the death.

The process of grief has been said to present itself to us in the following faces:

  • Shock
  • Denial

As it relates to the death our world is currently facing as brought forth through Covid-19, humanity is wavering somewhere between the stages of shock, denial, and bargaining.

Shock is the feeling we are all having as our lives have suddenly experienced a dramatic change.  Holy crap – this sh*t is real!  For many, (myself included), our lives have simply stopped.  With shock, all we can do is acknowledge the dramatic change while attempting to find our way into and through it.  As wave upon wave of new (and sometimes false) information comes our way, we may find our shock retriggered.  Again, acknowledge the trauma of the shock while trying to find a “new normal” for yourself.

Denial is when we don’t believe it’s real.  This is the state the U.S. was in for weeks/ maybe months as the virus was devastating other parts of the world, but hadn’t yet impacted us.  Many continue to be in denial over the potentially critical nature of the virus and the fear that many are experiencing as a result.

Bargaining is the stage that seems to be most apparent right now.  Bargaining is often characterized in a literal sense as in bargaining with God over the fate of a loved one.  Bargaining is also recognized in:

  • Desire for information: If we could only find enough information and the right information around this virus we will all be ok.
  • Attempts at control: Trying to find ways we can control the virus and the life we are living in the face of a pandemic. Some recent examples include:
  • Arguing over the perceived loss of civil liberties.
  • Protesting the stay at home orders.
  • Arguing for stricter stay at home orders.
  • Wearing masks/not wearing masks
  • Creating theories around what is true or not so that we can feel better (or in control)
  • Needing to be right.
  • Pointing the Finger of Blame: All the ways in which we criticize and condemn others for their response to the virus and our judgments around their response. This includes all the ways we shame others by telling them they are wrong.
  • If/Then scenarios: This somewhat falls into the control category. “If I wear my mask everywhere I won’t get it.”  “If I’m only with those who I know haven’t been exposed, then I’ll be fine.”  “If I think the right thoughts, take the right supplements, eat the right foods, then I will be fine.”

All of these are natural human responses to grief.  There is no judgment of these reactions and none of them are wrong.  This is what we do when the world that we have known is suddenly yanked out from beneath us and we are left floating in the void of the unknown.  We are looking for something to hang on to, something that is concrete.  We grasp after the illusion of control when the world around us is completely outside of our realm of control.  We cannot delay the inevitable.  Neither can we stop it.

But there is one thing we can do to ease our fear and heal our pain:

LET GO

When we peel our grasping fingers off the throat of the dying world and allow ourselves to surrender to the unknown – this is where we find peace.  When we cease grasping after control, we will find that there is no risk of sinking into despair because instead, we will find ourselves being gently carried to whatever the new world might be for us.  When we let go we are able to grieve the loss of the old, find healing for our loss and be made ready for the new life that is silently calling to us from out of the depths of the void.

Where are you finding yourself in the grieving process?  What aspects of the dying world are your grieving?  What might you begin to let go of as you move through your own grieving process?

Finding Peace in the Unknown

Good morning!  These are interesting times in which we are living and as an empath I am feeling it all.  This is what I posted on Facebook earlier this morning:

FRUSTRATION is the energy of the day. A night spent with dreams of frustration and woke up with an overwhelming external sense of frustration. This morning I prayed hard and will soon be returning to prayer to help loosen and free this energy – an energy that is not mine but is the current energy of our world. Humanity is unnecessarily fighting a battle against each other. There is literally nothing to fight against. To make it through the Covid-19 event, we have to simply let it be. Let it runs its course. Find our own peace in the midst of the external chaos. The only one we need to be concerned about is ourselves and our own peace. Find that peace and stay there. Once the chaos has completed its task the dust will settle and then we can begin to create our new world. In the meantime, let the chaos do its work of clearing the old to make way for the new.

Not only am I feeling this frustration on a global level, I am feeling it personally.  It’s not my frustration, but it is the inner conflict I am feeling as I stand in the middle between people I dearly love.  As it relates to Covid-19, the current conflict seems to be centered around:

Stay at Home vs. Return to Work

I have dear friends sitting at both ends of this spectrum.  Some are actively protesting the stay-at-home orders and want to see businesses back up and running.  Many of these are business owners themselves, so I get it.  On the other end of the spectrum are those I deeply love who are actively protesting “return to work.”  Many of these are considered seriously at-risk for not only contracting but dying from the virus.  So I get it.  The challenge with these opposing movements is that there is so much we do not know.  We are living in a state of complete unknown.

  • By staying at home are we simply delaying the inevitable?
  • Are we missing our opportunity to gain herd immunity?
  • If the original intention for the stay-at-home was to flatten the curve while also giving medical facilities an opportunity to gear up for what would eventually happen anyway and if the medical facilities are ready, does it make sense to stay at home?
  • Has the stay at home order simply been a government play to put us into a state of fear and to put us at their mercy?
  • Has the stay at home only provided an opportunity for those who created the virus to launch their vaccine (and God knows what might be in that vaccine?)?
  • Will returning to work put more people in danger?
  • Will millions of more people die because we returned to work too quickly?
  • Is it even safe for people to return to work?
  • If we return to work, how do we protect those who remain at serious risk?

The reality is that we have no idea the answer to any of these questions.  We don’t know what will happen when we return to work and we don’t know what will happen by continuing to stay at home. Meanwhile businesses are struggling and some will not survive the shutdown.  Government support has not been sufficient for many and has not been forthcoming for some.  Millions of people have contracted the virus and nearly 70,000 have died (in the U.S.). People are afraid.  And we do not know what we are looking at now, let alone in 2 years from now (when the CDC predicts this will finally be over).

We are living in a state of complete unknown.  Even that which is proclaimed as known one day changes the next.  We don’t know what information we are being given is true and what is made up.  We don’t know which conspiracy theory will prove true and which ones are simply false.  We don’t know which protests are real and which have been staged with paid actors to create an environment of fear.

The world has gone insane (or rather, the insanity that has always been there is simply coming forward into the light).  At the heart of this insanity are two things:

FEAR and GRIEF

People are afraid and have been made to be afraid.  On the outside, the fear is over the virus, but when we look deeper the fear is over our inability to control the unknown.

And beneath the fear of the unknown, is the even deeper fear which is the very real fear that arises in the face of death.  I’m not talking about the fear of dying from Covid-19 (though for many that fear is real).  Instead, I’m talking about an even bigger death.

Whether people are aware of this consciously or not, the world as we have known it is dying.  The world made out of fear, power and control is crashing down around our feet and in its dying, it is showing its hideous face.  And all this flailing about that we are currently witnessing in our world is the very real and human reaction to what we do not know or understand and that over which we have no control.

Herein lies the remedy to the current insanity we are experiencing: the world as we have known it is dying.  It has never been sustainable (except for the very very few).  Our best course of action is to stand back, get the heck out of the way, and let it burn.  We cannot control its death and we are hurting ourselves by trying.  For the sake of our own peace, we can acknowledge that there is too much we do not know while surrendering to the fact that we cannot control the old world in its dying.

And as the old world is dying, what if instead of creating opposing positions and fighting and arguing with each other over what we do not know and cannot control we came together in cooperation.  What if while the world is burning itself to the ground we came together (at a safe distance) in conversations around what we might begin building instead?
