The Secret Cure for All that Ails Us.

(If you missed my “Building the New World” report yesterday, read that HERE.)

“The secret cure to all that ails us,” isn’t much of a secret really. In fact, this “secret” is known by every great teacher that ever walked this earth (Jesus, the Buddha, Moses, Mohammad, Amma, Gandhi, The Dalai Lama, Thomas Merton, Meister Eckhart, Teresa of Avila, John of the Cross, St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi, Ignatius of Loyola, Julian of Norwich, Hildegard of Bingen, Paramahansa Yogananda, Black Elk, The Thirteen Grandmothers, etc. etc. etc. This “secret” that has been discovered by the most revered teachers of every culture is…..(drumroll please)………

ONENESS

The Dalai Lama speaks of this oneness in the context of compassion. The Buddha spoke of it as presence or essence. Moses knew it as the voice of God within him who guided him and his people. Teresa of Avila experienced it as ecstasy. St. Ignatius experienced it as consolation. Jesus spoke of it as being One with God and he experienced this Oneness as love. Every great teacher discovered this truth within themselves and then sought to teach others how to experience this Oneness and how this Oneness was the cure of all that taints the human experience – pain, anxiety, suffering and death. Experiencing and knowing Oneness allows us to transcend the inherent pain and suffering of the human condition and it is in this state of Oneness that we know “the peace that surpasses all understanding.”

It is one thing to speak about Oneness and to understand it in our minds. It is another thing entirely to have a personal, lived experience of this Oneness as I was reminded just this past week. While I have had many glimpses into this Oneness over the course of the past fifty years, enough so that I understand and can speak with authority about Oneness, not until this past week did I fully comprehend or even experience Oneness and never before had I experienced Oneness to the extent that it was in fact too much for me and I had to run away. After a week of processing, I’m happy to come back to this Oneness….but first the story of finding the cure.

The Journey to Oneness

My experience of Oneness happened in the context of a shamanic journey in which I was carried away in a dreamlike vision in search for the answer to a question that resided deep in the center of my Soul – the question about fully embodying the call of my Soul in this life. In the journey I was greeted by one of my spiritual guides/teachers who often accompanies me on shamanic journeys. He grabbed my hand and ran with me to the world in which I would journey. When we arrived in that world it was night. As we stepped across the threshold into the journey world, I beheld a multitude of beings flanking us on both sides. I sensed the beings as my teachers, spirit guides, angels, saints, ancestors, loved ones – all present in spirit form offering their support. In the blink of an eye, my guide turned into a jet-black dragon while also being present in human form to “drive” the dragon. He grabbed my hand and pulled me atop the dragon and off we flew into the night.

We flew up and up and up across the journey world – past landmarks and places I had experienced in previous journeys. We flew up and up and up, out of the atmosphere of the earth and toward the full (blood) moon. We flew toward and then past the moon and continued out into space, past all the known planets of our galaxy, out beyond our galaxy and toward the constellation of Orion. We flew past Orion and on to the star cluster of Sirius. We then flew past Sirius, deep, deep, deep into the center of our known Universe toward what scientists refer to as “The Galactic Core.” The Galactic Core is what is beliefed to be the center of the Universe and the theorized Source of the original “Big Bang.” It is also out of the Galactic Core that our current experience of Wave X has its origins. Holding tightly to my guide as we flew atop the black dragon, we flew closer and closer to the Galactic Core when I became aware of a rhythmic pulsing emanating from this core. Wave after wave after wave of vibrating and pulsing energy came at me from this core which I suddenly realized was a heartbeat. Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom – resonating the steady heartbeat at the center of the Universe.

DSCF3146

God IS the Universe!  We are the Universe!

Then it hit me, this heartbeat which is thought to be the Source of all of creation and the origin of all that is known and unknown in our Universe is GOD. God has a heart and God’s heart resides in the center of our Universe and is the origin and source of all that is. Then my mind and vision began to expand – the Universe and all that is known and unknown in the Universe is the actual body of God and the galactic core is God’s heart – beating out a continuous and rhythmic pulsating vibration that I keenly identified as LOVE. Love. Love. Love. Love. – the steady heartbeat of the Universe/God that emanates from the center of all that is and which, in fact, is the cause and the source of all that is. Love. Love. Love. Love.

As I connected with this experience of God as the Universe and God’s beating heart as the galactic core of the universe and the center and source of all that is known and unknown in the universe – then my brain exploded. If God is the Universe and all that is….and we are part of all that is…..then we are part and parcel of God. If the Galactic Core is God’s beating heart than here on earth, we might be God’s big toe and each of us a pulsing cell within that toe. Equally, we might be God’s left eye – reflecting and refracting back to the Center of the Universe, to the beating galactic core of God’s heart all that God wants to see. In other words – if God is the Universe and we are part of the Universe then WE ARE ONE WITH GOD. And what we experience in this place of being One with God is LOVE. A love that is beyond what we can comprehend – a love that is all encompassing, embracing us in rapturous ecstasy. A love that destroys all that makes us small and elevates us to our original nature as ONE in LOVE. Living as love, out of love and for the purpose of love. Love. Love. Love.

THIS is the truth that sets us free. THIS is the cure to all that ails us. Love that made and flows steadily throughout the entire universe and beats steady and pure from the center of all that is. We are one with this love as part of the living universe and one with this love through our own beating hearts. Love is all there is. All there is is love. When we know this we know peace, contentment, joy and love. THIS is the reason for all our restlessness, boredom and longing – LOVE calling us home.

Miriam Speaks – Reclaiming the Feminine in Salvation History

As we are on the brink of the full revelation of the Divine Feminine and ushering in the rebirth of the Divine Masculine, it is time for the feminine heroes of salvation history to speak.  Today, let me introduce you to Miriam – prophetess, priestess, healer and midwife of the Hebrew people – Co-liberator with Moses in the journey from slavery to the discovery of the REAL Promised Land.

Miriam Speaks

You know, I am sick to death of my brother Moses getting all the credit!  It’s been five thousand years and I am done being silent.  It is time for me to speak.  It is not just because of Moses that the Hebrews found freedom…..I had a big role to play in the Exodus too, but sadly Moses is the one who has gotten all the recognition (and Aaron with him).

In case you don’t know who I am (because the men who wrote scripture simply glossed over my story…and I’m never preached about in the temple or Sunday morning at mass), I am Miriam.  I am Moses’ older sister and a prophet in my own right.  But of course, most have forgotten this about me (thank Goddess for the Talmud or my story would have been all but forgotten).

I am a prophet, a seer, a healer, a dowser and a midwife.  It was I who saw the star foretelling Moses’ birth.  It was I who interpreted the meaning of the star.  It was I who helped my mother bring my brother forth from the womb.  It was I who knew what to do to save Moses from death when Pharaoh ordered the slaughter of male infants.  I had been to the rushes.  I had heard the Pharaoh’s daughter and her longing for a child.  It was I who had befriended her during my mother’s pregnancy knowing the fate that would befall my brother when even Pharaoh didn’t know himself (the Pharaoh’s seers were not near as gifted as I).  It was I who brought Moses to her allowing her to “find” him on her own so she could fool her father.  When Moses became a prince and a foreman over the Hebrews I was called by God to reintroduce Moses to our mother, informing him of his authentic heritage as a Hebrew.  I was the one who delivered to Moses his (our) true calling as a liberator(s) of our people.  When Moses fled to the desert I was there with him in prayer, supporting him in finding a family and eventually in finding the Mountain of God and his encounter with the one true God.  Then, when Moses returned, I was his counselor, helping him to hear and discern the voice of God and ordaining him into the priesthood – with staff and serpent – symbols of the full integration of the Divine Masculine and Divine Feminine, I ordained him.  I can’t help he never fully embraced the Feminine, but that was the intention. I was there by his side when he spoke to Pharaoh and I wept with him when the Angel of Death passed over and slaughtered the first-born sons of those who did not believe.  I was there with him when Pharaoh ordered our liberation and I was there beside him calling for the parting of the Reed Sea.  With Moses’ staff of power and my power over the Feminine element of water, the waters gave way and with my singing and dancing (and that of my fellow priestesses) we held the water at bay.  It was when we ceased our dancing that the waters fell upon the Pharaoh’s soldiers, insuring our escape.

StaffofMoses

I am a prophet, a healer, a midwife, a dowser and a priestess of the Hebrew people. In our forty-year journey through the desert, I was Moses’ constant companion.  Using my intuition and my gift of sight, I was the column of fire and the pillar of cloud that led our people through the desert.  With my feminine connection with water, I located the wells that would provide water to quench our thirst.  I called forth the quail who nourished our hungry bodies and discerned that manna would be good to eat.  When we arrived at the Mountain of God, I sensed the anger and frustration of the crowd and that Moses would be the likely target for their anger and sent him away from us to the heights of the mountain where he could discern for himself God’s guidance at this important crossroads in our journey. I held him in prayer and support while Aaron succumbed to the pressure of the people in creating a god for themselves.  Then, when Moses came down with the law, I reveled in what God had revealed to him and then found myself heartbroken when in his anger over what our people had done in fashioning a golden idol, he delivered a law that was prohibitive instead of the vessel of support and affirmation that God had originally intended.  I whispered the truth of God’s law into the hearts of those who would hear, but to those already in fear, it was Moses’ prohibitive rules that eventually stuck.

I was there when we first beheld the Promised Land and knew that it was not the land itself that God had promised but an inner freedom that secured our liberation regardless of the outward circumstance of our lives.  In our journey through the desert, I had found this freedom time and time again in my own intimate connection with our God who was both male and female and yet beyond either of these.  I found this freedom in my communion with God and in the nurturing and sharing of the ways in which God sought to be known in the world through me – as yielder of water, as pillar of cloud and column of fire, as serpent and seer, as healer and midwife, as priestess and prophet, as daughter, sister and mother.  In our journey through the desert, I found the freedom that God had promised and sought to teach our people the same. Sadly, for the majority of our people – Moses included – this freedom was never truly found and I see that the same is true today as men are waging war after war after war over material control of whatever they currently believe to be the “Promised Land” – Israel, The Ukraine, Egypt, Tibet, oil, gold, diamonds, money, fame, power, and control.  Humankind continues to build false idols and to seek outside of themselves for the “Promised Land” when as I have discovered, it has been within us all along.

Scripture Reading:

In those days, in their thirst for water, the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “Why did you ever make us leave Egypt? Was it just to have us die here of thirst with our children and our livestock?” So Moses cried out to the LORD, “What shall I do with this people? a little more and they will stone me!” The LORD answered Moses, “Go over there in front of the people,  along with some of the elders of Israel, holding in your hand, as you go, the staff with which you struck the river. I will be standing there in front of you on the rock in Horeb. Strike the rock, and the water will flow from it for the people to drink.” This Moses did, in the presence of the elders of Israel. The place was called Massah and Meribah, because the Israelites quarreled there and tested the LORD, saying, “Is the LORD in our midst or not?”

As Paul said in his letter to the Hebrews:

“Faith is the realization of things hoped for and evidence of things unseen.” (Heb 11:1)

Sometimes in order to have belief, or to strengthen a weakened belief, it is helpful to look back over our life experiences for evidence of the Presence and Action of God.  Taking the time to recall all the places in our life where we can see the loving action of God helps to strengthen us in times of struggle and gives us appreciation for all the ways in which God has been present to us throughout our lives.

Spiritual Practices:

On a blank sheet of paper, draw a horizontal line.  At one end of the line, put the number zero.  At the other end of the line, write your current age.  Between zero and your current age, mark along the line, significant events of your life.  Choose one of those events and place yourself back into the experience, using your imagination to recollect the details of the event.  Allow yourself to once again experience the emotions and feelings associated with the event.  Allow the story to unfold in your mind until it comes to its natural conclusion. Then reflect on the following questions:

1)       How are you now aware of the Presence and Action of God in the course of that event?  Some examples might be – significant people who accompanied you in the experience, or showed up as examples of love and support.  Other examples might be related to solutions to problems, guidance and support that seemed to come in a miraculous or startling way.

2)      How has that event continued to influence your life?  How has God continued to be present to you as you life unfolded from that event?

Authentic Freedom

In this week’s reading, the Hebrews were confronted with the very real fear that they would die of thirst in the desert.  From the perspective of Authentic Freedom, the fear that arose in them was the fear that there is not enough. This fear caused them to doubt the decision they had made to leave behind the life of slavery they had known in Egypt and follow Moses to the “promised land.”  Their grumbling and the remedy to their grumbling is a reminder for us as well – when we are afraid that there is not enough, to turn toward God.

How are you aware of the fear “there is not enough” as operating in your life?

Where are you tempted to doubt that God will provide for all of your needs?

How are you being invited to turn toward God when you are afraid?

Escaping Inner Slavery – our own personal exodus

The Lord God said, “I have witnessed your affliction my people and have heard your cries of complaint against your oppressors, so I know well what you are suffering.  Therefore, I have initiated an extraordinary Divine intervention, to rescue you from your oppressors; leading you out of the land of slavery into a good and gracious land, a land flowing with milk and honey.

Exodus 3: 7-8

BurningBush

Our own Burning Bush

In the coming week, you will be invited to reflect on the story of the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt and their journey into the desert, in search for the “promised land.” In this reflection, we are reminded of our own invitation to exodus.  As much as God’s words to the Israelites invited them to leave behind a life of slavery, so too are these God’s words for us TODAY as we suffer under the oppression of our own inner slavery.  In this case, the oppression God is inviting us to escape is the slavery of fear and the specific ways in which fear has come to rule our lives. Fear imprisons us in the constant worry about how our needs are going to be met, compelling us into a relentless search for “that thing” outside of us that will make us happy – money, power, sex, fame, material possessions, love, etc. Fear makes us question our value or place in this world.  Fear causes us to believe we cannot be the person we want to be/ the person God made us to be.  Fear causes us to believe ourselves unworthy of love.  Fear compels us to silence our voice – afraid that we will not be heard.  Fear tells us we can’t possibly know God’s desires for our lives.  And fear tells us that we are alone – or that we have to do it alone.

Leaving Behind Our Slavery

If we truly want to be freed of the fears that currently rule our lives, if we want to experience the freedom that God intends for us, we first need to say yes to the call.  Like the Israelites, we have to take that first LEAP OF FAITH, laying down the chains that bind us and take that first step toward the promised land.  And, like the Israelites, we will be tested.  Moving from slavery into freedom is NOT EASY.  We have to confront our fears and find effective tools for helping us move through these fears so that we can truly be free.  As we diligently tend to our fears, we eventually learn that there is nothing “out there” that will satisfy the inner restlessness, longing and anxiousness that we feel, but that God alone is the satisfaction to our fear.  When we turn toward God, our anxieties are calmed, and we are freed from the chains that hold us bound to the perceived security of “what we know.”

As you work with this week’s meditation practices and participate in this week’s Virtual Church Service, reflect on the power that fear holds in your own life.  What is the slavery you are being invited to escape?  What is the promised land you are being invited to discover?  How and in what way are you being invited to find your own inner freedom?

Our Own Burning Bush – the Call of the Heavensent

The Lord God said, “I have witnessed your affliction my people and have heard your cries of complaint against your oppressors, so I know well what you are suffering.  Therefore, I have initiated an extraordinary Divine intervention, to rescue you from your oppressors; leading you out of the land of slavery into a good and gracious land, a land flowing with milk and honey.

Exodus 3: 7-8

BurningBush

Moses and the Burning Bush

These are the words of the great “I AM” spoken to Moses, several thousand years ago through the burning bush.  In these words were the Lord’s invitation to the Israelite people to leave behind the life of slavery that they had known under Egyptian rule and to embark upon a journey of freedom to a land as yet unknown which the Lord promised would be “flowing with milk and honey.”

Our own Burning Bush

As much as these were God’s words to the Israelites several thousand years ago, these are God’s words for us TODAY as we suffer under the oppression of our own slavery.  In this case, the oppression God is inviting us to escape is the slavery of fear and the specific ways in which fear has come to rule our inner lives and the ways in which fear has manifest in our world in its various guises of consumerism, racism, discrimination, sexism, separation, hatred, environmental collapse, corporate greed, government corruption, violence and war. The Lord knows well how the world has suffered under the imprisonment of fear and as such, has initiated an extraordinary Divine intervention which promises to turn the world of fear into a world of love.  And the great thing is that this new world that we are envisioning doesn’t require an exodus from where we are now.  The land of milk and honey is right here in our very midst, if we but have the courage to set aside fear and instead, to choose love.

A Million Moses’

The extraordinary Divine intervention that God has initiated is in the form of what I will call today “A million Moses’.”  The million Moses’ are all those on the planet who were gifted before they were even conceived, with the vision of a new world and who were born with both the knowing of what this world could look like and the passion to help make it happen.   I have called these men, women and children “The Heavensent,” for that is exactly what they are – sent by God to turn the world from fear into love.  You already know who you are. You have carried within you a vision for a better world.    You know at the very deepest part of your being that the vision of the new world that you carry within you is possible.  You possess the desire and the passion to want to do something about it and to be a part of making the new world real. Consider this your call….your own burning bush.  You are the Heavensent.  You are one of the million Moses’. Open your heart to how God is specifically calling you to help bring forth a world made of love, no longer controlled by fear.  Knowing that the journey of billions starts with you – become familiar with your own inner fears and how they are controlling your life.  Find tools for transcending those fears so that your inner terrain will be defined by contentment and love.  Make decisions based in love instead of fear.  Know freedom within yourself so that you can become acquainted with your own uniquely creative gifts through which you will find meaning, purpose and fulfillment and through which you will contribute to the betterment of the world.  Then grab your staff and your wand and start sharing your magic so that others may also be free.

Church without Separation

Today’s blog invites us to explore what “church” might look like if we were to set aside our perceived separations and judgments of each other.

Dreaming a Big Dream

Today’s blog continues the discussion of Jesus’ teachings about love and the invitation to Oneness.  If we really believe that we are One with God as Jesus came to understand and live in that love as Jesus commanded, then even our religious affiliations become suspect.  Does this mean we have to throw our religious upbringing, beliefs and practices out with the bathwater?  I don’t think so.   I have been accused of being a dreamer and of living in a pie in the sky world….but indulge me as I dream a big dream of what church might look like if we set aside our separations and decided to live from a place of love:

Judge Not Lest Ye Be Judged

First, we would stop judging.  We would stop judging our beliefs as right and everyone else’s as wrong.  Instead, we would seek the love and truth that is inherent in EVERY religious tradition and honor this as sacred.  We would seek to know more about each other, seek to understand the beliefs behind our practices and recognize that we are really not different from each other, we are merely learning how to love in the best way that we know how through the beliefs and practices we were taught.

Before pointing out the speck in your brother’s eye…

When we are tempted to point out the non-loving actions of another person’s faith, we will instead look within our own traditions for all of the ways we are non-loving.  We will accept responsibility for our own temptation to judge, criticize, condemn, hold ourselves up as better or more saved and work toward fixing our own problems.  We will examine our own practices and doctrines for the gaps between love and fear and work toward mending those gaps.  We will examine the places in our own traditions where we create separation and work toward bringing that into Oneness.

For Those with Eyes to See

We will recognize that each person’s journey toward love is unique and that we all get there eventually and in our own time.  We will open our eyes to the truth inherent in every religion and the love that resides in the hearts of every person.  We will attune our vision to seeing this love and this truth and honor it as sacred thereby allowing ourselves to see past the perceived separations.

Keep Holy The Sabbath Day

If we set aside the perceived separations between our religious practices and traditions, we would honor every religion’s chosen practices as sacrament – a vehicle through which we give honor to God and are open to God’s grace.  We would baptize, receive communion, confess our sins, lay teffilin, recite our mantras, whirl our dervishes, attend sweat lodge, call in the four directions, etc.  recognizing that all are valid and honored ways of connecting more deeply with love.

Heal the Sick, Clothe the Naked, Feed the Hungry, Set Captives Free

We will recognize that in every religious tradition is the call to serve.  We will work together for the common good and do so from a place of respect, honor, acceptance and love.

5) I believe in One God

By whatever name you call it!  If we really believe in ONE GOD, then when are we ever NOT worshipping this God….no matter what the individual religious traditions choose to call that God?  Whether we call this God: Abba, YHWH, Elohim, Allah, Allaha, Brahma, Rama, Krishna, Christ, Shekinah, Asherah, Radha, Durga, Mata, Pele, Kali, Adonai, Apollo, Ganesha, Lakshmi, Innana, etc. etc. etc.  we will honor every name as sacred and a reflection of that which NONE OF US can ever really name or experience fully.

Teachers and Sons of God

Here’s the tricky one.  Every religion has its teacher and every religion wants to say their teacher is the best, the only one, the chosen one, the anointed one, the Son/Daughter of God.  What would happen if for just a moment, we set aside our temptation to separate – to believe that we are right and everyone else is wrong and gave honor to every teacher as bearing a seed of truth?  What if we were open to the possibility that God sends us many teachers….teachers for every ethnic group, religion, culture and condition? And…what if we can say that Jesus is the Messiah and that the Buddha, Mohammad, Moses, Krishna, etc. etc. etc. are also Messiah’s in their own right?  What if everyone is right and no one is wrong?  I know, the earth might come to an end…..but it is a question worth asking.

In the Words of a Great Prophet

The challenge is: What if we could love so much that we no longer had to accept our way as the only way and that there might be truth in all of it? I believe that this kind of mutual honor and respect is possible when we set aside our perceived separations and live in the Oneness that all great teachers have invited us into.   As one modern prophet once said:

“You may say that I’m a dreamer….but I’m not the only one.

I hope some day you’ll join me and the world will live as one.”

Questioning the “Law of Attraction”

Questions about the pop-culture phenomenon known as “The Law of Attraction” aka “The Secret.”  Sometimes, I think “success” and “failure” have nothing to do with our beliefs, thoughts, attitudes and are simply a matter of dumb luck!  What matters is what we do with the life that we have been given.

Being Faced with a Challenge

This weekend, I had the great opportunity to attend a yoga workshop and Kirtan event with teacher, musician and Kirtan facilitator, Wade Imre Morissette.  Before we began the Kirtan, Wade invited us to choose an intention for our prayer.  The first word that popped into my mind was abundance.  But as I sat with that word, it was quickly replaced with worthiness.  Worthiness….the one word I have perhaps wanted most to really embrace and believe in my life.  I really want to believe I am worthy of all the things I want in my life:  Worthy of a fulfilling and prosperous career.  Worthy of a deep and abiding love.  Worthy of loving friendships, good health, happiness, etc. etc. etc.  And I wondered, is this why I have not achieved the financial success that I desire in my business (it is already overwhelmingly fulfilling!)?  Do I not believe I am worthy of financial success?  This is what the “Law of Attraction” would tell me.  “If you are not prosperous, in the job you want and love, in a relationship that is loving, fulfilling, uplifting, mutually supportive, etc. etc. etc.  it is because YOUR THOUGHTS ARE WRONG.  Well, if the “Law of Attraction says so….”   So, I offered up my prayer, “Please God, help me to feel worthy so that I may receive the financial abundance that I need to fulfill my dreams of helping others through my abundance.”  Then……I heard someone slam their foot upon the heavenly brakes and the squealing of tires that could only mean 30 pounds of tread just got left behind on Heaven’s highway.

What if The Law of Attraction is NOT?

Wait a minute…….I heard the thoughts gathering in my head.  I know all kinds of people who have a boatload of money.  Some who worked very hard for it.  Some whose spouse worked very hard for it.  Some who seemed to accumulate it by accident.  Do all these people believe that they are worthy?  HECK NO!!!!  In fact many of these people are plagued by self-doubt, self-loathing, self-deprecation.  So, if these people who are so much better off financially than I am and struggle even more with worthiness than I do….WHAT GIVES?????  According to “The Law of Attraction,” belief and thought equals attainment.  If you believe you deserve it, if you believe you are worthy, then you will get it.  AND…..if you don’t have it, it is because you believed or thought wrongly. YOU are the creator and the source of your manifestation (or lack thereof).  At the end of the day, good or bad…..IT’S ALL YOUR FAULT!  To put it bluntly….I think that’s CRAP!

Sh…t   Happens

Sometimes, I just think that sh….t happens.  Some people are rich.  Some are poor.  Some have fulfilling careers.  Some do not.  Some find loving partnership easily.  Some search and search and never find it.  And, I find it really hard to believe that all those that DO NOT have what they want professionally, financially and personally do not have it because their thoughts or beliefs are wrong.  If that were the case, then none of us would really have what we want because  no one thinks all good things all day every day and most of us grew up in some sort of dysfunction that colors our beliefs and perceptions – sometimes negatively.  Not to mention, we are all born into the world with a unique lens through which we see, perceive and experience our human experience.  Not to get all Trent Reznor (one of my favorite nihilists) on you….but at the end of the day, perhaps a lot of it is just DUMB LUCK.

The Real Secret

So, if life is just a matter of chaotic, unordered, unpredictable events and bad things happen to good people, regardless of how they think or believe, now what?  WELCOME TO THE HUMAN CONDITION!  And……it doesn’t have to be “Life sucks and then you die.”  Are bad things going to happen to us?  Are the things we think we want sometimes elusive?  Will there be suffering and loss.  YOU BET.  AND…..we don’t have to allow it to destroy us!  This is the real secret that all the greatest spiritual teachers came to remind us.  Moses, Jesus, Mohammed, The Buddha, Yogananda, Babaji, Amma, the Dalia Lama, all come with the same message.  “The Human condition is the human condition.  And….suffering is optional.”  And……they have all left us tools with which we can SURVIVE, endure, transcend, make it through the stuff that life sometimes hands us:  sacred writings, words of wisdom, spiritual practices and rituals, etc. etc. etc.  Thanks to those who have gone before us, we have EVERYTHING we need to survive and maybe even ENJOY the human experience.  (Imagine that!)  Thanks to these teachers, we can stop worrying so much about how our thoughts or beliefs are dictating the condition of our lives, let go of the guilt over how it must somehow be our fault and focus on the tools that lead us to the peace and love of God.  And this peace and love of God is there for EVERYONE regardless of what we have, believe or think.

Love or Fear? The Choice is Yours

Today’s blog is inspired by a series of events and experiences that I have observed and confirmed by the following article on the coming of “the Age of Aquarius”  http://www.3ho.org/ecommunity/2011/09/the-aquarian-shift-what-will-be-different-about-our-world-after-november-11-2011/.  Whether you believe in the idea of a galactic shift or not, we are each given, in every moment of every day the opportunity to choose our life. Do we choose love and truth or fear?  The choice is ours….and the time to choose is NOW!

Mystic Crystal Revelations

Every single spiritual master that has graced this fair planet (Jesus, Moses, Mohammed, The Buddha, The Dalai Lama, Gandhi, Mother Teresa, St. Francis, Osho, Swami Rama, Yogananda, etc. etc. etc. ) attained the same understanding:  “All we need is love.”  Then they went out to share this truth with the world.  These teachers acknowledged THE common longing among human beings….and that is the longing to know love and to know peace.  Fear, they knew was the obstacle to knowing peace and love, and they shared with their students (and the rest of the world with them) specific tools for healing and releasing fear so that all could know the joyful contentment they had come to know within themselves.

And the Minds True Liberation

The key to knowing the love and the peace known by these spiritual masters is CHOICE!  And it is a matter of CHOICE.  Because of the nature of the human condition, peace and love are not likely to show up on their own.  Yes, we have fleeting glimpses of the love and the peace that we are, without ever picking up a spiritual text or engaging in a spiritual practice.  If, however, we want peace and love that will endure and if we want to more forward in our human journey in spite of the reality of fear, then we have to CHOOSE peace and love.  It is in choosing love over fear, truth over ego, peace over anxiety, joy over despair that we are liberated from the bondage of the human condition.  We find freedom when we choose love.  We find expansiveness when we know joy.  We find contentment when we cultivate peace.

Then Peace Will Guide the Planets and Love Will Steer the Stars

According to those that follow the science of astrology, November 11, 2011 marks the beginning of “The Age of Aquarius.”  Whether or not we believe in the “prophecies” about the significance of this planetary line up, one message is clear and it is clear for all of eternity……the time to choose is NOW.  If you want love, peace, joy, harmony and understanding, sympathy and trust abounding, no more falsehood or derision…..CHOOSE IT!  Stop allowing fear to run your life.  Choose love.  Choose peace.  Choose joy.  And support that choice through sound spiritual practice.  And if you need additional support, read my book 🙂  Authentic Freedom – Claiming a Life of Contentment and Joy!

Hippie Prophets

The song, “The Age of Aquarius” by the Fifth Dimension is the very first song I ever remember hearing as a child and THE song that touched me in a deeply impactful and significant way.  When I first heard the song….I believed it.  I knew this was where we were being led as human beings and I knew that we would see the words of that song manifest in our lifetimes.  For whatever reason, this song has become the guiding principle of my life and I truly believe that the Divine was speaking to me in some way through this song.  So….without further ado:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0G8XJNz4bY  Let the Sunshine in!

Moses, Madness and Miracles

Traversing the Divinely revealed path to our highest truth can certainly look from the outside like madness.  Were Moses, Abraham, Mother Mary insane or did they take that leap of faith….and now stand as examples and inspiration for the rest of us as we search for spiritual freedom in our lives.

This has been a week defined by Divine madness, miracles and dreams of Moses.  This whole Moses thing started months (in fact years) ago as the truth became more and more evident that my husband and I were being called out of the familiarity of married life into the unknown desert of divorce.  I could not even begin to attempt an explanation as to how this was revealed to us (not that it is anyone’s business), and even if I did attempt an explanation, from the outside it would quite simply look like madness.

Here is where Moses comes in…..poor Moses….he was living a delightfully contented life in the desert of Midian with his wife, her family and their children, quietly tending sheep.  But then that darn burning bush had to show up and startle him out of the familiarity of his desert life and remind him that while he was enjoying a peaceful life in the desert, his people (the Hebrew people) were suffering under the harsh rule of the Pharoah in Egypt.  Now here is the crazy part….God told Moses it was his job to go to Egypt and lead the Hebrews out of slavery into “a good and gracious land flowing with milk and honey.”  Did Moses jump to it and run off the Egypt to rescue the Jews?  NO WAY JOSE’!  He whined, complained, bargained and came up with every excuse in the book as to why he could not go.  In the end (as is usually the case), God won the argument and Moses went off on a journey through which he was required to leave behind everything familiar, place his blind trust in God and convince a nation that they should do the same…trudging through desert and plain with no map, no compass and absolutely no destination in mind.  They eventually ended up in “the promised land”, but as history proves, the drama didn’t end there.

So, I’ve been feeling a little Moses-ish these days.  Of course, I have no illusions about leading a nation or crossing the “Red Sea” of Lake Winnebago, but the message that I have received that invited me on this journey is no less insane than claiming that a burning bush talked to me.  All I can do is trust, and hope that God is going to show me things along the way that tell me where to go, what to do and will provide for my needs along the way.  I keep looking for the fiery column by night and the cloud of smoke by day….but alas, it seems the signs of God’s guidance are a little more subtle.  This is where I feel compelled to share a few miracles that I am claiming as my own personal column of smoke.  And this week in particular has been a week of miracles.

Here are the miracles in a nutshell:  a house within a budget that I set for myself (the current “buyers market” has helped with this!), a newly ordained contractor who is generously allowing the house that I hope to purchase to be his portfolio project which includes a HUGE discount on labor costs, approval on my loan application (this quite frankly might be the most significant of miracles!), a house inspection at a very reasonable cost, a marketing consultant that is helping me to take my business to the next level, thus providing me with the means to obtain my current income goals, a publisher that is enthusiastically taking my book, Authentic Freedom to market.  I could go on, but I won’t bore you with the details.  In the end, I am completely in awe over the manifestation of these miracles…most of them completely unexpected and some of them so generously given that I can only sit back in stunned silence at the magnitude of the gifts being presented to me in this journey of entering into a new life.

I am fully aware that as I leap into the abyss of unknown, that this is not only my journey.  Each and every one of us at some time is invited to step more fully into our most authentic truth and into a life that is in our highest good.  Most frequently, this requires a leaving behind, a letting go and a LEAP OF FAITH.  We are invited to trust the message whether it is presented in the tiny whisperings of our heart….or more dramatically through our own burning bush.  The good news…is that when we allow ourselves to surrender to this path AND MOST IMPORTANTLY….let go of our compulsion to control the process…..miracles, signs and wonders come to us along the way.  These signs and miracles are what give us affirmation of our truth and provide for us the resources, guidance and comfort we need along the way.  God doesn’t simply throw us out into the desert to figure it out for ourselves…God is always right there, leading, comforting, guiding, strengthening and even carrying us when we think we could not possibly take one more step.

So today, I invite you to examine your life for your own messages of truth:

  • Where are you being invited to step more fully into your highest truth?
  • How are you being led to a life that is in your highest good?
  • What are the things you will need to leave behind?
  • How can you be open to your own column of fire or column of smoke?
