The Seed of Remembrance – Finding Our Way Home

Today – a parable.  When we made the choice to experience the human condition, the consequence was the perception of separation from our Divine origins, which then resulted in fear, suffering and pain.  Fortunately, our loving Divine parents planted within us the seed of remembrance so that one day, we would find our way home.

HeldinLove

Once upon a time, there were Divine loving parents, Father and Mother. They created a universe filled with their children, made in their own likeness. In the Presence of the Father and the Mother, these children knew nothing but love, happiness and bliss. Then one day, some of the children realized that in order to grow and mature, they would need to know what life would be like without the Presence of the Father and the Mother. So, these children asked their Divine parents for permission to move away from them – to go off by themselves and experience life without the Presence of their Divine Parents. Mother and Father knew exploration would cause their children great anguish, pain and suffering, but also knew that in order to grow, they needed this time of separation, so the Parents agreed. The children then went off on their own to explore the world separated from the Presence of their Divine and loving Parents. Father and Mother, however, did not send the children off completely alone. Instead, they planted within the heart of each of their children the seed of remembrance. Contained within this seed was the memory of their original home as one in love with their Divine Parents, sisters and brothers. Father and Mother hoped that one day, this seed of remembrance would awaken and lead their children home.

The children, then, went off to experience life as separate from their Divine origins. As was anticipated, this experience caused the Divine children much pain and suffering. The children felt as if they were lost, abandoned and alone. For the first time, they experience fear which then led to anger, resentment, jealousy, covetousness, lust for power, insecurity, loneliness and despair. The children of God, out of their fear, began to create separation from each other, making war, destroying the world Father and Mother had given them, condemning others as different and unacceptable. The world they created apart from their Father and Mother became a world of great darkness. As the years went by, the children grew more and more restless and more and more afraid.

All this while, the seed of remembrance rested within the hearts of the Divine children. In all of the Divine children, this seed felt to them like a thorn or a sliver trying to find its way out. This seed created within each of the Divine children, a deep longing – a longing that could not be named, but a longing nonetheless. Many ignored this longing or tried to silence its efforts through self-numbing behaviors – excessive food, drink, accumulation of possessions, power and control over others, etc. Others, heard this longing and punished themselves, falling deeper and deeper in despair. Others, felt this longing and instead of resisting it or succumbing to its darkness, decided to LISTEN. In this listening, the Divine children heard the voice of Father and Mother calling them home.

There’s No Place Like Home

This is for all my brothers and sisters who wonder if they are not really from here, if in fact they came from somewhere else.  I often wonder too.

Joyful in life, work and love.

Supported in uniquely creative gifts,

Fulfilled in a purposeful life.

Hearing and seeing the truth beyond words,

Nothing of fear can deceive.

Governed by compassion,

Guided by mercy,

Knowing darkness and light are but one.

Aware of the plight of a planet in pain,

Desiring only to help.

A brave coalition sent forth through time

To teach those in fear how to love.

Arriving first on the Emerald Isle,

By natives dubbed, “the fae,”

Harnessing dragon and standing stone,

Beckoning all toward love.

Ebbing and flowing

Tuatha and Danu,

Fae Folk and Druid

At times turning into the light…

Time and time and time again,

Building the foundations of peace.

As shifting sands give way to stone,

With love to rule them all…

Accomplishing the mission

For whence they came

Superheroes and our Relationship with Mood-Altering Substances

Superhero Report – July 28, 2014

Our Relationship with Mood-Altering Substances

DSCF3163

It is not something we like to admit, but the New Superheroes have often had trouble with mood-altering substances.  Whether it is caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, marijuana, a whole host of illegal substances or ones that have been prescribed by our doctors for ADD, anxiety, stress, depression, or panic attack, certain ascetic meditation practices, television, video games, the internet – the New Superheroes are likely to have (or had) some sort of habitual relationship with one or several of the above.  There is a sound explanation for the attractiveness of these substances and to the way in which we are almost irresistibly drawn toward them and why they can so easily become addictive.  There are also some simple practices we can engage in which can render these substances unnecessary.  (Note: if you have an addiction, please seek out the support of your local 12-Step recovery program.)

The question of why we are drawn to mood-altering substances has a many-layered response:

1) We remember our true nature and our original home and we want to go home!

On an unconscious and often conscious level, Superheroes remember what “heaven” feels like. We also know our “true self” is not of this earth, but that we are pure, spiritual beings. Mood-altering substances stimulate the brow and crown chakras and give us an experience of being “home.”

2) We were given a vision of what the earth is supposed to be like, and this is not it.

Until we know how, we often resist this human form and are looking for ways to ESCAPE. The earth we are currently residing in is the not the vision of earth that was planted into our hearts and that we are here to make real. Again, mood-altering substances give us an experience similar to being home, thereby allowing us, at least temporarily, to escape the painful human condition.

3) The false belief that spiritual is better than human.

This is a biggie – especially among certain members of the New Age, Ascension, and Lightworker communities. We are NOT here to be spiritual, we are not here to ascend the limitations of our humanness, we are not here to sprinkle fairies and stardust upon the world singing songs of light and love and perfection, believing that if we think good thoughts all will be well and we will have everything we want. No, we are not here to do these things – not at the expense of being HUMAN anyway. WE ARE HERE TO BE HUMAN. PERIOD. We are ALREADY fully Divine. We came here to experience being human AND to bring our already perfect Divine nature fully into this experience. Rather than Ascension, the journey of the New Superhero (and the rest of the world with us), is actually INCARNATION – transcending the illusions of duality and becoming BOTH fully Divine AND fully Human. We already know the Divine part….let’s figure out how to be human! (ahem….I know a pretty cool dude who lived about 2000 years ago in and around Palestine/Israel who came here to do the same.)

4) Shame

As strangers in a strange land, we often have the experience of not fitting in, of being judged for being weird or strange. People don’t understand us, or the vision we carry in our hearts and the drive to make it real. When we feel rejected by those around us, and sometimes even by those we love, we take it personally. This rejection becomes internalized as shame. Mood-altering substances are a great way to numb the pain of this shame.

5) Loneliness

Just ask Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman, being a Superhero is lonely business. Until they discovered each other and formed the Justice League, these Superheroes were out there on their own trying to make the world a better place and feeling very alone. The same is true of us. We often feel alone in the world with few who understand our unique temperaments, gifts and call. Mood altering substances help us to numb the pain of feeling alone and misunderstood.

Again, if our relationship with mood-altering substances has reached the level of addiction, then it is time to seek help.  12-Step recovery programs are a great way to get support in stopping the use of the substance and Authentic Freedom helps to identify and heal the inner fears/wounds which led us to the compulsive behavior in the first place.  If our relationship to mood-altering substances is less problematic but we still find ourselves drawn to them, the following practices may prove helpful.

1)Tonglen

Tonglen is a Tibetan Buddhist meditation practice which incorporates visualization and breathwork for the intention of transforming painful emotions. For the Superheroes, applying Tonglen to feelings of loneliness and shame can prove effective. Here is the practice in short:

  • Identify the feeling you want to work with (shame, loneliness)
  • Call that feeling up in your body.
  • Identify where in your body you feel it.
  • Breathe INTO that place in your body, while feeling the emotion (shame, loneliness).
  • While breathing into that place, follow your breath with your mind.
  • Now breathe out love, following the love with your breath as you imagine it flowing out of you from the place of the painful emotion.
  • Continue with this practice until you feel something change – perhaps the emotion shifts to something else, maybe you begin to weep.

2) Embodiment

Embodiment is a practice that I discovered while struggling with an overactive and fretful mind.  The intention of this practice is to REMEMBER that we are here to have a HUMAN experience – no matter what we remember about our “heaven home” or our true nature as spiritual beings.  Embodiment allows us to set aside the false belief that spiritual is better than human and gives us the tools for bringing our, already perfect, Divine selves FULLY into the human experience.  When our spirit is fully incarnate in our bodies, we feel safe and secure and are less likely to be tempted to FLEE.  It is not, however, until we INCARNATE that we feel safe in our human selves, so let’s get to incarnating, shall we???

  • Close your eyes and draw your awareness deep into your body.
  • See if you can identify the distinction between your spiritual and human self. (Note, the spiritual self, until we are incarnate, tends to hang out in the upper chakras, especially our head, or even somewhere outside and above us.)
  • Conscious of the distinction between your spiritual and human self, bring your consciousness deep into your body.
  • Imagine the Earth beneath you as hands reaching up to hold, support, protect, and nourish you.
  • Feel the sense of safety in resting in this supportive space.
  • Imagine your HUMAN self as supported by the Earth and receiving its nourishment from the Earth.
  • As you begin to feel the safety of humanness, imagine that your human self is like a chalice – an empty vessel waiting for your Spirit to be poured into it.
  • From this place of security, observe as your Spirit willingly pours itself into the safe home of your human chalice. You are not pushing, forcing or pulling it in, it willingly enters in the knowledge that the Human form is safe.
  • Returning to the awareness of your human form, FEEL the sensation of being fully human and safe in this experience, while completely filled by your Divine Spiritual nature. Feel the wholeness and completeness of this experience. As you sit in this feeling of safety, you become aware of all illusions of separation melting away. Your Spirit and your Human natures are now one – no longer separate or distinct from each other, but ONE.

Embodiment eliminates the temptation to FLEE because when we INCARNATE, we find that WE ARE HOME and that there is a home for us in the human condition and that with our embodiment, it looks a whole lot like the heaven we remember and the heaven we were sent to make real upon this earth. 🙂  In this experience, we know that HEAVEN IS REAL and it is right here, within and among us.

Asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come,

Jesus said in reply, “The coming of the kingdom of God cannot be observed,

And no one will announce, ‘Look, here it is,’ or ‘ look, there it is.’

For behold, the kingdom of God is within (and among) you.”

God/dess Talking

Today’s blog explores God.  What would God say to us today if we had the ears to hear?  Yes, I am writing this, but read it as if it is God/dess speaking to you.  🙂

Who I AM

My dearest children:

My blessings of love, joy and peace on you this day….and on every other day.  Lauri asked me to speak to you on behalf of MYSELF and for your benefit.  You are living in a time where there is much conflict and so much of that conflict seems to be centered around ME.  Am I man or woman, spirit or light, presence or essence, up or down, inside or outside, on a mountain or in a temple, Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Pagan, Hindu, Buddhist, Black, White, Asian, Gay, Straight, Republican or Democrat, etc. etc. etc.  In this moment,  I invite you to imagine ME as a beautiful, gentle, compassionate and wise woman, and in this imagined vision of ME, you may call ME, Sophia, but know that this is only one possibility among an infinite number of possibilities about how you can imagine and experience ME.  So, over this arguement about what I AM and what I AM not….you can stop all your fighting.  Because……I AM all of it…..and even more than that.  You cannot begin to imagine or even experience all that I AM, because I AM infinite.  But, if it helps you to know ME in a particular form: Black or White, male or female, Spirit or Light….then go for it.  It makes no difference to me, except when you fight about it.

PS:  If you need help finding your way home……call Lauri (920) 230-1313 or email lauri@yourspiritualtruth.com or Buy her book: Authentic Freedom – Claiming a Life of Contentment and Joy!

Enough with the fighting

While I AM a tolerant, compassionate and unconditional loving God/dess and in you there is never really anything to forgive, I AM getting a little tired of all this fighting.  But then again, I only have MYSELF to blame since I did create you and in your decision to become human, separation is the lens through which WE will have this experience.  This might be a good time in your history, however, to recognize that separation is a choice and it is a choice that you can undo at any moment.  When you turn away from the separation you have chosen and remember your ONENESS in ME……then all this fighting will end.  Why….because all these things you perceive as different – race, religion, political party, nation, gender, sexual orientation, are really all the same.  In ME, there is no separation….we are all ONE….in a constant state of love, harmony, unity, bliss, peace, joy, awe and wonder.  You make things so difficult with all this separation and like Dorothy and her red shoes, you have always had the power to change this.  And you know, her little mantra, “There’s no place like home….there’s no place like home….” could have the same magical effect on you….to bring you home to ME!  So if you are tired of all this fighting, struggle, challenge, separation, then click your little red heels and COME HOME!

All I Want to Do and BE

Come home!  I am sitting here waiting for you to come home to remembering your true nature which is LOVE.  And, I want nothing more than to hold you in that love, comfort you from your fears, enfold you in peace and stroke your hair as your highest truth gently rises to the surface.  I made you for joy.  I made you to create.  I envisioned you having fun, playing in fields of daisies and making bubbles through bubble wands.  I created this amazing, beautiful, magical, full of wonder, world for your pleasure.  I want you to skip through the woods in search of magical mushrooms, to dance with the fairies and play hide and seek with the gnomes.  Your world is supposed to be magic.  Instead, you have made it your own personal hell.  STOP Right now!  Click your ruby red heels and COME HOME.  You have the power.  You know how to get here.  And if you forgot, read some more of Lauri’s blogs, she has given you a MILLION tools to help you remember and maps to help you find your way.  I am here….waiting…….and all you have to do is CHOOSE: love instead of fear, harmony instead of separation, peace instead of anxiety, joy instead of sorrow, hope instead of dread, compassion instead of hatred, forgiveness instead of anger.  CHOOSE ME.  CHOOSE ME.  CHOOSE ME……and you will have peace.

Love,

Sophia (or whatever name by which you want to call me!)

Soda or Pop? Signs of Coming Home

As inspired by my friend, Rose Deniz (http://rosedeniz.blogspot.com/),  What are the words that tell you you are home?

I’m warning you…I’m not sure there will be any “God-stuff” in this blog….but I will see if I can tie it in.  One never knows!

Minneapolis has always been home to me.   After several years of trying the California thing, my parents decided to return us (me, 4; Theresa infant; Dana on the way) to their ancestral home in 1969.  We lived in Minneapolis until the spring of 1980 and my parents returned again in 1988.  They have been in Minneapolis ever since.  I’m now in Minneapolis helping with my father who is ill and my mother who does not drive.  My siblings have had to shoulder the burden of elder care all summer and with a free calendar, it was my turn – a task I gladly accept.  (And thank you to Scot for taking the parent-duty until I can return).

Being back in Minneapolis (a city I have never really left), I am reminded of the things that give me comfort and make me feel like I am home:

  • Minneapolis freeways.  I LOVE driving on the freeways.  Fast.  Congested.  Stimulating.  Driving on the freeways I feel sharp, focused, and a little bit like a racecar driver.  I have never had a panic attack on the freeways, and frankly, I’m not sure it is possible for me with the way freeways stimulate my mind. Maybe it is my own little dose of ritalin that keeps me alert, safe, focused. I LOVE IT!
  • Skyscrapers. When I drive into “the cities” (as St. Paul and Minneapolis are affectionately called) my heart is warmed by the sight of downtown on the horizon.  I LOVE DOWNTOWN.
  • Lakes and Parks – Nobody does city planning better than Minneapolis.  If you like lakes, parks, bikepaths, beaches, Minneapolis has them all IN ABUNDANCE!  The chain of lakes in the center of the city is my favorite – Lake of the Isles, Calhoun, Harriet and Cedar.  I AM HOME!
  • Totino Grace High School.  I took a drive by my former high school yesterday. AWWWWW.   It looks exactly the same – only bigger.
  • Pop

Ok, pop warrants its own paragraph.  In Minnesota, things like Coca-cola, 7-Up, Mountain Dew are called POP.  When I moved to Milwaukee from Minneapolis, I had to learn a new word – SODA.  SODA has always felt foreign to me and everytime I utter this word, I feel as if I am speaking an alien tongue.  SODA hangs out there and I wonder, “Are they going to know what I am asking for….because it is really POP, but here I think they call it SODA?”  It has never felt right to me to use the word SODA. So yesterday, my mom and I went to Champs for dinner after a day of running elder errands and visiting my dad in the hospital.  I was SO excited to see they had Guinness on tap and promptly ordered a pint. My mom, inquired about non-alcoholic drinks and what would qualify for a beverage on her Entertainment Coupon.  The waitress responded, “We have lemonade, iced-tea or pop.”  POP?????   As she uttered this word, my ears perked up, my heart started to beat a little faster and a warm blanket of safety and security wrapped itself around me.  I AM HOME!  They speak POP here!  POP POP POP POP POP!  I am now free to utter my native tongue of Minnesota speak and I can say POP without fear of ridicule or worse, the cold, blank stare of “What the hell are you talking about?”  POP POP POP!

Ah ha….I am going to talk about God afterall……so what do any of these signs of “home” mean anyway?  Our human, spiritual journey is afterall, a journey of self-discovery:

  • Who Am I?
  • What is my Source of peace, contentment, compassion, joy (aka God)?
  • What are my gifts and how am I called to use them?

Connecting with the things that make us feel like home is one of the ways we come to know ourselves more fully.  Freeways.  Downtown.  Lakes and paths.  POP.  These are all things that make my heart sing, give me joy and have become part of who I am.  Coming to know this gives me tools for what I need to include in my life to cultivate contentment and wholeness.

So, does this mean I will be abandoning my family and friends in Oshkosh and high-tailing it back to Minneapolis to live?   NO!  (Maggie and Wil shall take comfort in that thought)  But, what it might mean is more frequent trips to Minneapolis and, (here’s the fun part), maybe I will reclaim POP and use it freely and boldly…whether or not Wisconsinites have any idea of what I am saying.  😉   (I know, I like to rock the boat…..hee hee hee)

What makes you feel like home?

What gives you comfort, makes your heart sing?

How are you being called to include more of this in your life?
