A New (Original) Way of Being Church

This past Sunday, I suddenly realized that I am DOING what I came here to do, and what I have KNOWN for a very long time was my mission and purpose on this planet – to bring forth a new/original paradigm for being Priest in a new/original paradigm for being Church. I sit in awe-filled wonder over the fact that I have arrived and that I am HERE doing what I have been trying for twenty years to do. Here it is, right in front of me. It’s been here all along, but now it seems it has wholly (holy) and completely arrived.

What I thought was the final piece of the puzzle (the Sunday Service which is launching this Sunday, August 16th 8:00 am at Inner Sun Yoga Studio), was it, but it seems there was more. It’s not enough to simply show up on Sunday morning and facilitate a worship/prayer service, being Church and being Priest is about being a vessel of God’s love through the overall care and wellbeing of those in your community. Part of that care is to provide opportunities for your community’s psycho/spiritual nourishment, growth and development which I am already providing via Authentic Freedom Academy. Part of the responsibility of a priest is pastoral counseling and support which I provide as a Spiritual Director. Part of the job of a priest is to be a vehicle through which God’s healing is more fully present to individuals – which I provide through Reiki, Spiritual Direction, etc. Another task of a priest is sacrament – rites and rituals that bring people together in community and which help them to consciously connect with God’s grace. This I have had an opportunity to do through the weddings, ordinations and other rites of passage I have facilitated. This past Sunday, I had an opportunity to witness how the sacramental part of this task is even more present for me than I originally thought and how it is unfolding in a way that reflects the manifestation of a new/original paradigm of priesthood and a new/original paradigm of being church in the world.

This past Sunday, the sacramental part of being “priest” and being “church” presented itself in what would traditionally be called “anointing of the sick.” I was intuitively led to offer this service to a client who had been recently diagnosed with cancer and who is facing surgery this week (today as a matter of fact, please keep her and her family in your prayers). As I sat with my client and her family in a “make it up as we go along” service I realized that THIS is the new/original model of priesthood and church. There were no rubrics to follow, only the guidance and prompting of the Holy Spirit and the immediate needs of the family. We prayed. We shared in ritual. The family told stories, hugs and tears. We read from a sacred text chosen by my client. We sang a song that held great meaning for the family and that uplifted everyone with humor. The service ended with my client offering cake and coffee (if that isn’t communion, I don’t know what is!). It was perfect. It was sublime. It was AWE-some! As I sat in reflection of this experience, all I could do was feel humbled and in awe over whatever it was that allowed me to be witness to this sacred experience.

This is what it means to be priest. This is what it means to be church. No rubrics. No doctrine. No collar or special robes. No golden vessels or special laws. Only rapt attention to the immediate needs of those before us – their need for healing, comfort, nourishment and support in a way that honors their own unique beliefs and personal experiences of the Divine. I am humbled and in awe over twenty years of holding onto a vision, believing when everyone else (sometimes me included) thought I was insane, only to suddenly realize it is here – a new/original way of being priest and of being church in a world desperately in need of both.

If you live in the Oshkosh area, please join us this Sunday for our first Sunday Service. 8:00 am (doors open at 7:40) at Inner Sun Yoga Studio. Learn more HERE.

Calling All Magdalenes

This is for all those I know (and don’t yet know) who bear the energy and call of the Magdalene.  It is time.  It is time for us to step into the power of the Magdalene.  The world needs our gifts.

I AM the Magdalene

I am the Magdalene – this is what I am called to embody.  Called to be a vessel through which Jesus’ message of love is shared in the world, continuing his mission as he has called me to do.  Confident, uncompromising, strictly adhering to the truth of Oneness that Jesus came to reveal.

  • Through word and witness, teaching and preaching and by living Jesus’ law of love through devotion and prayer,  works of healing and counsel.
  • Modeling the same commitment to contemplative prayer that Jesus embraced – the vehicle through which he came to know his own Oneness with God and the tool he shared to help others come to know this truth.
  • Helping others find healing of the seven demons of fear that reinforce our perceived separation from God so that we may once again live in the peace and joy that God intended.
  • Guided by the Inner Voice of the Divine that speak truth to the heart.
  • Confident in God’s loving counsel.
  • Uncompromising in adherence to that Inner Voice.
  • Moving in Compassion and Love for all.
  • Patient and Trusting in Divine Providence.
  • On-Fire with God’s Love.
  • With Christ as my Beloved to accompany me.

I am the Magdalene, I in her, and she in me.

The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me; he has sent me to bring glad tidings to the poor, to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and release to the prisoners, to announce a year of favor from the LORD and a day of vindication by our God. I rejoice heartily in the LORD, in my God is the joy of my soul; for he has clothed me with a robe of salvation and wrapped me in a mantle of justice, like a bridegroom adorned with a diadem, like a bride bedecked with her jewels. As the earth brings forth its plants, and a garden makes its growth spring up, so will the Lord GOD make justice and praise spring up before all the nations.

Anointed and Sent

In this week’s reading from Isaiah, he is speaking about himself as anointed and sent by God, along with the specific nature of his mission. In the Christian tradition, these words are reflected upon as a foretelling of Jesus’ mission and the work he would accomplish in the world. These words, however, were not to be interpreted as only applicable to Isaiah and Jesus. Instead, these words are meant for us to hear and understand as descriptive of our own Divine call. We too have been anointed and called by God to:

Heal the brokenhearted

Proclaim liberty to captives

And release to prisoners

To announce a year of favor for the Lord.

Salvation for the human race is an on-going venture and as Isaiah was anointed, as Jesus was sent, so too are we.

How have you become aware that you are anointed by God and sent to support the coming of the love?

Spiritual Practices – Receiving our Anointing

Slowly and meditatively read the scripture passage above.

Re-Read it, this time reading it as if it is your own proclamation. Read it aloud if it helps. As you are reading, take in the words, let them sink in.

Allow yourself to receive the truth of these words – the truth of your own anointing and of your own call.

Pause in silence

Visualize that you are standing before God or Jesus. Imagine God as mother or father, and Jesus in whatever way you imagine him. Imagine that you are standing before them so that you may receive your own anointing.

Imagine God as mother or father or Jesus anointing your head and your hands with holy oil. Then, imagine them placing their hands on the top of your head as a blessing and as a sending-forth for the mission you are being sent to accomplish. Allow yourself to feel the impact of this anointing and commissioning.

Know that through these actions you are being ordained to do God’s work of love in the world.

Offer your own prayer of thanksgiving aloud or in writing.

Rest in silence and return periodically to the reading, allowing it to sink even deeper into you.

Record your thoughts and feelings in your journal or notebook.

Authentic Freedom

In Authentic Freedom we explore the truth that each and every one of us has been uniquely gifted and called to reveal God’s love in the world. We are called to reveal God’s love in the world in the uniquely creative way we have been gifted to find meaning and purpose in our life and when we discover, cultivate and engage in these gifts, we experience a sense of fulfillment, contentment, joy, peace and love. These gifts, however, are not meant to be limited to our own personal use. Indeed, these gifts are meant to be shared in the world – ultimately in service to the betterment of the world. It is important to remember, however, that our gifts are not limited to the things we honor as perfect. God also calls us to be love in the world through those things we might judge as imperfect or flawed – and it is often out of our deepest places of brokenness where we are most able to reveal God’s love.

What are the uniquely creative ways in which you have been gifted to reveal God’s love in the world?

What are the imperfections, flaws and brokenness within you that seek to be used in service to God’s love?

Scripture Reading:

Comfort, give comfort to my people, says your God. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her that her service is at an end, her guilt is expiated; indeed, she has received from the hand of the LORD double for all her sins. A voice cries out: In the desert prepare the way of the LORD! Make straight in the wasteland a highway for our God! Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill shall be made low; the rugged land shall be made a plain, the rough country, a broad valley. Then the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all people shall see it together; for the mouth of the LORD has spoken. Go up on to a high mountain, Zion, herald of glad tidings; cry out at the top of your voice, Jerusalem, herald of good news! Fear not to cry out and say to the cities of Judah: Here is your God! Here comes with power the Lord GOD, who rules by his strong arm; here is his reward with him, his recompense before him. Like a shepherd he feeds his flock; in his arms he gathers the lambs, carrying them in his bosom, and leading the ewes with care.

Words of Comfort and Relief

Comfort, give comfort to my people, says your God. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her that her service is at an end, her guilt is expiated”

If the tears that began to fall from my eyes in reading this words are any indication……we have all grown tired – tired of the struggles of the human condition. Tired from the conflict, the hatred, the discrimination, the separation and the war. For 10,000 years, we have made conflict with each other and worked tirelessly in destroying the earth for the sake of our own ignorance and greed. We have grown tired in the face of a seemingly hopeless struggle.

But there is good news: The struggle is not hopeless, in fact, the remedy is just around the corner, it resides within you, and the time is NOW.

The time of pain, separation, struggle, poverty, hunger, war is OVER. The time to save the earth from our own efforts to destroy it is NOW. The change is not, however, coming from the top-down as we had hoped. The change will NOT come from those institutions who have a vested interest in raping, pillaging, destroying the earth for their own selfish desires and neither will it come from those content to grow rich and powerful on the backs of the huddling masses. NO, the change will not come from them. Instead, the CHANGE BEGINS WITH YOU!

A voice crying out in the wilderness talking only to sand? I think not. I think you hear my words and understand my intent. CHANGE begins with you….in your willingness to do the work of healing your own separation, easing your own anxiety, calming your own fears and turning to the God who loves you for COMFORT. The change begins with you…..What are you waiting for?

What are you waiting for? Change starts with you! How are you taking time out of your day to receive and remember God’s comforting love and experiencing the healing of your own separation, pain and fear?

Spiritual Practices – Balm of Comfort

Slowly and meditatively read the scripture passage above. Go back and read it again, this time imagining it is a love letter from God to you. Read the words as if they are personally addressed to you. Receive these words as a balm of healing comfort, support and love. Allow the words to sink deeply into your being. Rest in the comfort of God’s love. Feel the peace. Feel the love. Imagine yourself being held in God’s loving embrace. Sink deeply into the feeling of being held and comforted.

Rest in silence and return periodically to the reading, allowing it to sink even deeper into you.

Record your thoughts and feelings in your journal or notebook.

Authentic Freedom

Will we ever comprehend how much God loves us? Will we ever REMEMBER the love that we are in God? Will we ever understand and live from this place of love – absent hatred, anxiety, conflict, separation, jealousy, discrimination, wrath, the need for vengeance? On our own, the answer is no. But with God – YES. This is the purpose for which Authentic Freedom was developed – to give us tools to TURN to God for help, healing, comfort – and in doing so, being freed of the false perception of separation that is the cause of the fear, anxiety and conflict of the human condition. Return again and again and again to God. Remember God’s love.

AND BE FREE

And as we are freed, the love that we are ripples out into the world in waves, changing the world from fear into love.

Again, what are we waiting for? The time is NOW! Return to God. Know Love. Be love. Re-create a world of love and for love. Amen!

Authentic Freedom 2013 Christmas Message

Madonnaofthestreets

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bosouX_d8Y

As I write the Authentic Freedom Christmas message of hope for 2013, all I feel is love.  And isn’t this appropriate?  Why else could we possibly be here in these flesh suits if not for the purpose of learning how to BE love and for learning how to LOVE?  And isn’t this the very reason we celebrate Christmas in the first place? Because somewhere around 2000 years ago, in the tiny town of Bethlehem, a child was born who came to understand the Love that he was and who desired to teach all of humanity how to know this Love and how to be this Love.  Love. Love. Love. Love. Love. Love.  The reason Jesus was born and what he hoped to teach us how to be.  Or as I like to say it, “Jesus came to help us to REMEMBER THE LOVE THAT WE ARE.”

Jesus, through the spark that was born within him and through a lifelong journey wrapped up in contemplation, meditation and prayer, Jesus came to remember his origin in Oneness with God.  God, he came to understand, was LOVE.  Jesus then went about teaching us how to know this truth within ourselves – to remember the love that we are and to enjoy the peace, freedom and contentment that comes from living in this state of Loving Remembrance.  And Jesus wasn’t alone in this remembrance.  Mary knew.  Joseph knew.  Elizabeth knew.  Many of the disciples knew.  Most certainly Mary Magdalene knew.

My Christmas message then, is about LOVE!  My wish for you is that you know love.  That you know, without a doubt, the magnificent, glorious, expression of the Divine that God seeks to be through you.  That you know, at the deepest core of your being, the Presence of this Love and that you know that you are the very nature of LOVE itself.  That you come to know the uniquely creative way in which God wants to experience the human condition THROUGH YOU and that you know the peace, joy, contentment and fulfillment that comes in realizing this gift, and that you are free to find the fullest expression of this gift.  That you come to realize that the WORLD NEEDS YOU….that only you can bring the unique gift through which God wants to be known in the world and that each and every one of us needs your gift.  And that you realize that in being your gift and sharing it in the world, the world becomes a more loving, compassionate, peaceful and harmonious place.  My Christmas wish is that you come to know what Jesus came to know and that through you, the vision of the kingdom that Jesus saw can now be made manifest in our world.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

And finally, a heart-felt THANK YOU!  Thank you for being born into this world.  Thank you for being the unique expression of God’s love in the world.  Thank you for being love and for being loving. Thank you for making the world a more loving and harmonious place because of the LOVE that you are.  And thank you for the work that it takes to know this love – overcoming fear, transcending resistance, being willing to dive deeply into the wounds of the past so that they may be healed and released.  And thank you for flying on wings of eagles, uplifted in the love of God so that you can be the glorious magnificence of who God made you to be!

All love, all peace and all joy to you and yours this Christmas and always!
