When Did You First Know?

Yesterday I had the profound gift of sitting with a dear friend who is healing after 6 months of INTENSIVE cancer treatment. We were talking about all the things you talk about when death is staring at you in the face.  In the midst of the conversation she asked me a question that will likely haunt me the rest of my life:

“Lauri, when did you first know?”

She was inquiring about the gift (which often feels like a curse) I have of seeing, hearing and feeling EVERYTHING that is happening in our world. Her question took my breath away, first, in revealing to me that she SAW and BELIEVED IN my gift.  Second, because I had never really thought to ask myself the same question.

When did I first know that I was seeing, hearing and feeling EVERYTHING?

When I sit with that question, the image that comes forth is me clinging to my mother’s pelvis as the doctors were ripping me by the foot from her womb. It seems I already knew what I would hear, see, feel and know and I wanted no part of it! (Interestingly, my daughter who shares this gift with me was also born breech.)

Seeing. Hearing.  Feeling. Knowing.  A gift as well as a curse.  But as my friend SAW and BELIEVED IN my gift, I felt the “cursed” part fall away and what was left was only the gift.  I felt this gift wash over me as a blessing….as a prayer….as a benediction.  I suddenly saw, heard, felt and knew the blessing this gift has been to me, and to those I serve.  Most obvious to me is the way this gift has supported me in seeing, hearing, feeling and knowing my children.  Knowing them in a way that has allowed me to avoid the temptation of crafting my children into something I think I want them to be.  Instead, I have supported them in being who they are.  I suspect for many of my students and clients I have done the same.

This gift has also allowed me to hold our world in love. I see, feel, hear and know the evil and pain in our world….and I feel it into the depth of my being.  It HURTS.  And yet, I know this is not who we are.  Beyond the hurt, the ignorance, the evil in the world, I see the pain and beyond the pain I see the love.  We are all on this planet trying to find our way home and the only way we can find our way home is through love.

Love has found its way to me through seeing, feeling, hearing and knowing EVERYTHING that is happening in our world. Love is finding its way to you through your own unique gifts. So I will ask you the same question asked of me by my friend:

When did you first know the gifts that you possess that are showing you the way to love?

My Magic is This……What is Yours?

Each and every one of us is uniquely gifted to be LOVE in the world. When we came into this world, we knew what our unique gifts were, but through societal conditioning (“writers are a dime a dozen,” “you can’t make a living doing that,” “what you think you are seeing or hearing is only your imagination,” “Good Girls don’t do that!” “Cool or straight boys don’t act or sing or dance…”) we learn to forget, hide, or set aside the magic we came into this world to enjoy and to share.  In order to fit in and to go along with societal expectations, we forget our gifts, but at some point, we realize that what society asks of us is not life-giving or is making us either sick or crazy, so we begin to search. We then spend the next several (many) years of our life trying to find our gifts and then overcoming the fears of actually nurturing, cultivating, enjoying and sharing our gifts….or we remain unfulfilled and/or sick.

Each and every one of us LONGS for a life that is meaningful, fulfilling and which gives us a sense of purpose. It is through our gifts (magic) that we are able to experience this life that we long for.  For me, it has been a 51 year journey of knowing, forgetting, exploring, discovering, learning, growing, healing, transforming and then being empowered in my gifts.  The journey never really ends, but at 51 years old, with confidence I can say what my gifts are (explaining how I use them is a whole other matter!).  I think the image below, which came out of a recent class I was facilitating, pretty much sums it up:

As one dear friend once acknowledged, “Lauri, your gift is hearing the truth beyond the words.” I have also come to understand that this is also true of my vision – I can SEE the truth beyond the illusion.  In the language of spiritual gifts, these abilities fall under the category of “discernment.”  I then use these abilities in my work as a teacher and a counselor – also spiritual gifts.  Knowledge is one of my spiritual gifts (magic) which is further supported by my love of learning.  Contemplation (prayer) is one of my gifts and helps to support me in all that I have mentioned above.  Put all of these gifts together and they further support my magic of being a leader and a visionary, a pastor and a prophet. It is the prophecy part that often gets me into trouble.

Prophets, as I have learned, are not those who predict the future, we are those who are able to “read the sign of the times” – who are able to see where society is going if things remain on their current path. We are then called to SEE and SPEAK the better way – the way of correction, if you will.  We see where reform is needed and we are called to live that reform and share it with other.  The place I have ultimately called to be prophet to….is what we have traditionally called “church.”  Specifically, moving beyond the institutions to Jesus’ original message of LOVE  – reclaiming that message and doing what Jesus originally called us to do – to support each other in becoming self-actualized.  This takes Jesus’ universal message out of the hands of power and privilege and brings it out into the world where ALL can benefit from this LOVE – no matter what one’s personal beliefs might be.

This is what I have come to understand to be my MAGIC. What is yours?

Building the New World Part 1 – Hearing

Have you seen our new “tagline?”

Authentic Freedom Academy – Empowerment Training  for Those Who Want to Change the World.

Stay tuned for more on this, how it relates to our mission and how we are here to help support you in being a part of changing the world. In the meantime…….today’s blog on how those who are called to help change the world have been gifted with a certain kind of hearing.

I am writing today’s blog after eight days of not being able to get up off the couch thanks to a raging “virus” that started on Monday morning with a three hour “download” which turned into a migraine with full-body pain, a 102 degree fever, chills, sweats, all of which eventually resulted in an inner ear infection, culminating in a burst eardrum and partial, temporary, hearing loss. All this time, my energy medicine friends (myself included) have asked the question, “What it is you’re not hearing?”

I pondered this question deeply, exploring every possible aspect of my life. Discernment can be tricky when you are sick, but I’ve learned that the Soul can speak to us, even through our pain.  What my Soul said to me quite clearly is – “There is nothing you are not hearing.  Instead, this is about all that you have already heard and continue to here.”

With this revelation I wept big tears of sorrow for all the pain I have been feeling through all that I am able to hear and realized the ear pain was simply the physical manifestation of all I had been feeling. The following is all that I have been able to hear:

On a personal level:

  • Every time someone has tried to lie to me or withhold the truth from me.
  • Every time another’s perspective, beliefs, position, behavior, etc. were not reflective of love.
  • When another made me their enemy for no fault of my own except for being myself.
  • When another was trying to manipulate me through fear or by any other means.
  • When evil is present in another or when their Soul had been given over to darkness.
  • When I diverted from the path of my Soul.
  • The fear, pain, sorrow, sickness, longing, hope, desire, unacknowledged addictions, unfulfilled dreams and unhealed wounds of every single person I meet.

On a global level:

  • The message from God (when I was 6 years old!) which revealed to me the threat of our world’s end and the steps needed to thwart that end.
  • The cries of the world for peace.
  • The screams of the earth as we kill her slowly through our selfishness and greed.
  • The agony of injustice as our world tears itself apart through selfishness, greed, ignorance, hatred and fear.
  • The pain in the hearts of children who are not being fed, given a safe place to live or who are denied the simple experience of being loved.
  • The anger over the demonizing of the Feminine and the emasculation of the Holy Masculine and all those suffering under the suppression of our divine and holy natures.
  • The deep sorrow over rampant violence against humanity in all forms.
  • A deep sickness over the ways in which God has been used to justify all sorts of violence and hatred in our world.
  • The yearning of a God who knows only how to love and who wants the world to know this love.

These are all the things I have been hearing for as long as I have walked this earth. It is only through a special kind of hearing that I am able to hear these things.  This is one of the gifts I have been given through which I am able to help support the betterment of our world – because it is not only the pain I hear but the promise:

Earth Heart

The Promise:

  • I hear the earth describing in detail how she needs to be treated to abundantly provide for our survival, as she was made to do.
  • I hear the deep longing in the hearts of every person I meet to fulfill the path of their Soul, along with the unique way they are being called to make a better world.
  • I hear the creative gifts of each person screaming to get out so that they might find fulfillment within themselves and in serving the betterment of the world.
  • I hear the song of the Universe echoing the promise of peace and a humanity willing and able to live in harmony, respecting and supporting one another in our differences while working together for peace.
  • I hear God’s sigh of relief when all of humanity finally sets down the fear of separation and is able to receive the love that has been our truth all along.

This deeper level of hearing is one of the unique gifts that have been given to many so that they might help to bring forth the new world. We are being called to do this through our many gifts and through our unique fields of influence.  I have been called to do this one person at a time, helping them to identify what their gifts are and how they are being called to help create the new world through their gifts, and then empowering them to do so.

How is it that you are being called to help build the new world?

Awaken Equip Empower

The greatest professional challenge I have faced is trying to explain to people what I do for a living.  When I offer titles like, Spiritual Director, Spiritual Counselor, Hands-on-Healer, Human Development Expert, Teacher, Interfaith Minister, I mostly get met with a blank stare.  When I boldly proclaim Author, people mostly cringe.  So…in today’s blog, I will try to explain what I, Lauri Ann Lumby, actually do for a living and WHY the services I provide might be of benefit to you!

Midwife to your Soul

This is the part of my job that is completely invisible, intangible, defies measurement or explanation, and yet, it is a gift I have that is intimately part of my call, and one I can no longer deny.  In my presence, people wake up.  They wake up to their own longing, the creative call within them, the desire to know peace, love, joy and the hunger to use their gifts in service to the betterment of the world.  Under my gaze and simply by being in my presence, people wake up.  Now….with that, there are one of two responses – they either stay and grow, or they run away screaming in fear.  The stay and grow part is really cool as I then have the opportunity to be witness to the excitement that happens in the other in the discovery of their gift and their call.  The running away in fear piece – that’s a weird one.  Fortunately, I no longer take it personally, but it is only a little unsettling when I suddenly become the “enemy” as a projection of their own unacknowledged fear.

Here’s the fun part.  When people awaken and they stay, they get to go on a treasure hunt, and I have the profound gift of being their guide.  I get to help them uncover their gifts, identify their passions and explore the call of their soul – the uniquely creative way in which they have been gifted to find meaning and purpose in the world and to find fulfillment in sharing this gift in service to the betterment of the world. How fun is that?  There are many tools I use to help people in this search – mindfulness and creativity practices, temperament and personality assessments, one-on-one counseling and mentoring.

This is the stage where things get a little messy.  The closer we get to our gifts and our call, the harder the ego (our false self) tries to work against us.  The ego likes same, status quo, and the harnessing of our gifts almost always means SIGNIFICANT change.  So as we approach our gifts, the ego throws all kinds of obstacles in our path – fear, anxiety, past hurts, the unhealed and unrealized parts of ourselves, the inner critic, the negative messages we subconsciously or consciously took on from others, the parts of ourselves we have rejected, suppressed, repressed, etc.  The ego does this both from within us and from outside of us.  My job is to help my clients and students identify the false self at work and to offer sound practices for freeing themselves from these obstacles.  These practices include movement, mindfulness, meditation, shamanic soul retrieval practices, hands-on-healing, the Authentic Freedom protocol which I developed, and others.  The goal of the Empower stage of the process is to do just that – EMPOWER.  I firmly believe and have come to see that my job is to make TEACHERS, not enable followers.  As such, my greatest joy is when one of my clients or students is ready to leave the nest and fly on their own….it is in this moment that I know I have accomplished my task, and that they have fully and freely birthed their own soul.  This, indeed, is my greatest joy!

The Consequence of Denying our Gifts and our Call

When we deny the gifts God has given us and the call to be a vessel of God’s love, peace, joy, healing, etc. in the world, we suffer – not because God is punishing us, but as a natural consequence of denying our gifts, our truth and our call.  In this week’s Agape meditation newsletter, supplement to the Authentic Freedom Virtual Church, find support for overcoming the fears that keep you from living your truth.

Scripture Reading:

Jesus told his disciples this parable: “A man going on a journey called in his servants and entrusted his possessions to them. To one he gave five talents; to another, two; to a third, one– to each according to his ability. Then he went away. Immediately the one who received five talents went and traded with them, and made another five. Likewise, the one who received two made another two. But the man who received one went off and dug a hole in the ground and buried his master’s money. After a long time the master of those servants came back and settled accounts with them. The one who had received five talents came forward bringing the additional five. He said, ‘Master, you gave me five talents. See, I have made five more.’ His master said to him, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master’s joy.’ Then the one who had received two talents also came forward and said, ‘Master, you gave me two talents. See, I have made two more.’ His master said to him, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master’s joy.’ Then the one who had received the one talent came forward and said, ‘Master, I knew you were a demanding person, harvesting where you did not plant and gathering where you did not scatter; so out of fear I went off and buried your talent in the ground. Here it is back.’ His master said to him in reply, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I did not plant and gather where I did not scatter? Should you not then have put my money in the bank so that I could have got it back with interest on my return? Now then! Take the talent from him and give it to the one with ten. For to everyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich; but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. And throw this useless servant into the darkness outside, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.'”

The Consequence of Ignoring our Gifts

“For to everyone who has, more will be given … but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.”

Once upon a time, there was a young woman from, Bingen, a town along the Rhine. She was given the gift of hearing and knowing the voice of God. Hildegard was her name. Frightened of this voice that asked her to write about God, about God’s healing gifts, about God’s kingdom and most importantly, about God’s love, she held this voice at bay. The voice continued to pursue her while she begged for its silence. The voice, however, would not be silenced. Refusing to act upon the voice’s request, Hildegard began to experience excruciating pain in her head along with blinding and flashing lights. The priests and doctors knew not how to alleviate her pain. She took to bed, and there she remained for months at a time. In her convalescence, the voices continued. Finally, she relented, asking for paper, quill and ink, and began to record what she heard and saw. Immediately, her pain and the blinding lights ceased. (To learn more about St. Hildegard of Bingen, check out this Wiki link:

St. Hildegard of Bingen provides the perfect example of what happens when we ignore or deny the gifts God has given us. Her illness was not punishment for denying her gifts and her call, but instead, are the natural consequence of ignoring the voice of God (in her case literally), within us.

Each and every one of us has been uniquely gifted by God and is uniquely called to be a vessel through which God’s love, peace, joy, healing, contentment, guidance and truth are to be revealed in the world. When we take the time to discover, cultivate and eventually share these gifts, we know peace, contentment, fulfillment and joy. When we ignore, suppress, repress, deny these gifts and their call, we experience anxiousness, discontent, frustration, anger, sorrow, and even mental and physical pain – again, not as punishment but as a natural consequence for denying the voice of God within us.

How have you taken time to discover, cultivate and share the gifts God has given you?

How have you suppressed, denied, ignored, repressed the gifts and the call God has given you? What have been the consequences of ignoring God’s voice?

Spiritual Practices – Connecting with Gift

In this week’s spiritual practice, we acknowledge the sacral chakra (the energy center located in the center of our lower abdomen) as the center of creativity. The awareness and call of our creative gifts are housed in this energy center. In this practice, you will engage the “laying on of hands” as a practice for creating a safe space in which your gifts may emerge so that you may begin (or continue) the work of nurturing and cultivating these gifts.

Sit in silence, or with meditative music playing in the background.

Rub your hands together vigorously to stimulate the flow of energy and to create warmth.

Rest your hands, palm down, on your lower abdomen.

Breathe as you keep your hands on your abdomen.

Maintain an intention of safety, openness and allowing as you continue to breathe while resting your hands on your abdomen.

Imagine that you are creating space for your gifts to reveal themselves to you.

Be attentive to any thoughts, feelings, images, emotions that may arise as you continue to hold your hands on your abdomen.

Continue this practice for 20-30 minutes.

Record any thoughts, feelings, insights received, etc. in your journal or notebook.

Authentic Freedom

In Authentic Freedom, we acknowledge fear as the obstacle to living as our most authentic self – the person that God made us to be in the fullness of our human potential. The second spiritual fear – I will not be able to bring forth life that will persist is the specific fear that prevents us from identifying, cultivating and eventually sharing our most authentic self. Through Authentic Freedom, we are reminded of the sacred truth – that each of us is uniquely and creatively gifted by God to be God’s love (peace, joy, guidance, healing, etc.) in the world and that when we discover, cultivate and share this giftedness (in service to the betterment of the world), we experience peace, contentment and fulfillment and the world, in turn, becomes a better place.

In short – what are you waiting for?

Lauri Ann Lumby provides support in helping you to awaken to your gifts and your call, and provides the tools through which you can nurture and be empowered in sharing these gifts.  Contact Lauri for a private session (920) 230-1313 or

Twentieth Sunday Ordinary Time

Scripture Reading:

At that time, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a Canaanite woman of that district came and called out, “Have pity on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is tormented by a demon.” But Jesus did not say a word in answer to her. Jesus’ disciples came and asked him, “Send her away, for she keeps calling out after us.” He said in reply, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” But the woman came and did Jesus homage, saying, “Lord, help me.” He said in reply, “It is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs.” She said, “Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the table of their masters.” Then Jesus said to her in reply, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish.” And the woman’s daughter was healed from that hour.

MT 15: 21-18

Additional Readings:

Is 56: 1, 6-7

Ps 67: 2-3, 5, 6, 8

Rom 11: 13-15, 29-32

And Jesus Was Human Too!

It took the persistence and faith of a woman to shake Jesus out of his own state of pride and ignorance. Believing he was only called to minister to “the house of Israel,” he initially did not see the fullness of his call. The Canaanite woman (or the Syro-Phoenecian woman depending on which Gospel you read), helped Jesus to see that he was not only called to minister to Israel, but that God’s word of love was for the whole world. The Canaanite woman understood this and, helped to facilitate Jesus’ own awakening, and in doing so, demonstrated to us that Jesus was human after all.

How does a glimpse into Jesus’ humanness change your understanding of and relationship to Jesus?

How does understanding Jesus’ humanness allow you to more fully embrace your own perceived shortcomings and imperfections?

Spiritual Practices – Embracing our own humanness

We are spiritual beings here to have a human experience. As such, it is not our task to escape our humanness, neither is it our job to condemn it. Instead, we are invited to accept our humanness, including our perceived imperfections and be open to how our humanness allows us to more fully serve God and the world. To help facilitate this awareness, you are invited to do a kind of Exam of Consciousness….but in reverse.

  1. On a blank sheet of paper, write down everything you think is wrong with you. Everything about yourself that you judge as negative or that you condemn as unacceptable.
  2. Go back over the list you have written and reflect on how these “imperfections” have helped you to grow – perhaps these imperfections have helped you to grow in humility, perhaps they have allowed you to be empathetic and compassionate toward others who share the same “imperfection.” Maybe you have found yourself helping others as they struggle with similar “imperfections.” If you struggle with this piece, offer a prayer to God, asking for God to help you see these “imperfections” through God’s eyes.
  3. Write a prayer or poem of thanksgiving for these imperfections, acknowledging them as a gift instead of as a curse.
  4. Close your prayer period by reading 1 Corinthians 12: 1-17. (You can find it in your bible or simply look it up in Google)

Authentic Freedom

In Authentic Freedom we recognize that each of us is uniquely gifted to reveal God’s love in the world. It is easy to see the ways in which we are gifted through our positive character traits, skills and talents. It is more difficult to see the unique way in which we have been gifted in those things within us that we are tempted to condemn. If we suffer from depression or have struggled with addiction, for example, we might not acknowledge these as ways in which we have an opportunity to reveal God’s love in the world. It is often through our weaknesses and imperfections, however, that we are best able to reveal God’s love, and sometimes, we serve God more through our weaknesses than through what we perceive as our gifts. The invitation is to acknowledge that ALL that we are – the good and the bad, the darkness and the light, the perfect and the imperfect seeks to serve God and to be vehicles through which God’s love is known in the world.

How are you being called to reveal God’s love through your perceived imperfections?

How are you being invited to more fully embrace your entire self – dark and light, perfect and imperfect, loving and fearful?

Superheroes Report – July 8, 2014

As I promised many of my readers, I will provide a reporting on what transpires at the Superhero’s gatherings.  I will not be sharing anything that was shared in confidence, only general information that may be helpful and supportive to the Superheroes out there who do not live in Oshkosh and therefore are not able to attend our gatherings.  We know you are here in spirit and benefitting from the work being done here!

The First Gathering

We had the initial gathering of the New Superheroes last night with great energy, enthusiasm and support.  The gathering consisted of men and women between the ages of 23 and 75 – a diverse group with some glaringly obvious common characteristics.  (For more on the New Superheroes, go HERE).  Last’s night gathering was a sharing of experiences, and what arose as most pressing for the group was:

A profound sense of knowing they are here for a reason  – ultimately to change the world, but wanting to know how!

There was also a universal consensus that the time for knowing and acting on this reason is NOW!

The time is now!

We are at a critical juncture in the evolution of humankind.  Fear, power and control are currently ruling the world resulting in the devastating destruction of our environment and threatening access to the very things we need to survive – namely healthy food, fresh water and clean air.  If things continue along the current trajectory, continuation of our species is certainly in question.  If there was ever a time that we need Superheroes – it is NOW!  The good news is that a powerful breed of humans has been born – men, women and children who KNOW what the world is SUPPOSED to look like, driven by a power within which causes them to FEEL when things in the world are NOT the way they are SUPPOSED to be and equally driven by this power within to SAY and DO something about it.  The Superheroes ARE NOT here to maintain status quo, they are here to CHANGE THE WORLD!  And yes, they will make those uncomfortable who are attached to the current paradigm of materialism, consumerism, gluttony, greed, envy, sloth, and pride, driven by a lust for power and a need for revenge.  The Superheroes are here to bear witness to the tearing down of the current paradigm that is already happening in our midst while preparing to help build the world anew – a world built on love, working in cooperation to establish peace, justice and harmony in our world where all perceived separations are set aside as we embrace the inherent oneness of not only humanity, but all of creation.

Moving Forward

In providing support for the Superheroes and helping them to achieve the purpose for which they were born, future gatherings will address some of the following:

1) Empathy – the gift of empathy inherent within the New Superheroes – how to understand it and how to use it to heal the world without harming one’s self.

2) Fear – learning how to transcend the fear of our gifts and our call – overcoming the inner obstacles to fulfilling our purpose.

3) Fear – dealing with the fear of others – knowing that by simply being in our presence, others will be awakened to their own true nature, to their desire for a better world, some will be able to accept this awakening, others will run in fear, often making us a target of their fear.

4) Fear – not getting drawn into a fearful response to the fear of the world.  Holding tight to the vision of love and letting go of the temptation to letting the media, etc. draw us away from love and into fear.

5) Managing our own Awakening – anxiety, depression, panic attacks, sleeplessness, physical discomfort, etc. can all be signs of Superheroes trying to wake up.  How do we manage our symptoms by accepting our call instead of repressing the call and making our symptoms worse?

6) Finding peace in the midst of the collapsing world.  In a word – spiritual practice!  Meditation, mindfulness, prayer, contemplation, mindful movement, and other activities that lead us to an experience of peace, joy, love, contentment, joy, fulfillment – all are helpful in supporting the call of the Superhero.

7) DISCERNMENT – what are our unique gifts and HOW are we being called to use them for the betterment of our world?

Scripture Reading:

Jesus had revealed himself to his disciples and, when they had finished breakfast, said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” Simon Peter answered him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my lambs.” He then said to Simon Peter a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Simon Peter answered him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was distressed that he had said to him a third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep. Amen, amen, I say to you, when you were younger, you used to dress yourself and go where you wanted; but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” He said this signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God. And when he had said this, he said to him, “Follow me.”

When We Know the Love of God

This week’s reading beautifully illustrates the natural response to knowing the love of God. When we know the love of God, as Peter came to know through Jesus, we can’t help but share that love with others. This is what Jesus empowered Peter to do through his words, “Feed my sheep.” On fire with the love of God and through the unique ways in which he had been gifted, , Peter then went out, to tell others about the love of God that he had come to know through Jesus and to bring healing to those who were suffering (Acts 3: 1-10).

How have you come to know the love of God through Jesus?

How are you called to form a more intimate relationship with Jesus in order that you might know more fully the love of God?

How are you called, through your own unique giftedness to share the love of God that you have come to know with others?

Spiritual Practices – Feed My Sheep

Set aside 20-30 minutes to enter into this meditation practice. You will be combining mantra and creative imagination in the following way:

  1. Slowly and meditatively read the scripture above.
  2. Choose one of Jesus’ commands to Peter as your mantra:
    1. Feed my lambs
    2. Tend my sheep
    3. Feed my sheep
  3. Repeat your chosen mantra over and over in your mind, allowing the words to penetrate your being and draw you into a state of peacefulness.
  4. Allow your imagination to reveal to you images of how you are being called to fulfill your chosen mantra in your own life.
  5. Record your thoughts/reflection in a notebook or journal.

Authentic Freedom

In Authentic Freedom, we are reminded that each of us is uniquely gifted and called to continue Jesus’ work in the world. In accepting this truth, we are able to transcend the fear that we have nothing to contribute to this world, or that we will not be able to bring forth life that will persist. Living in this truth allows us to name and claim our needs to explore, cultivate and nurture our unique giftedness and to set healthy boundaries around these needs, thereby living the virtue of fortitude.

How are you naming and claiming your need to explore, nurture and cultivate your own unique giftedness.

How are you setting and maintaining boundaries around your desire to cultivate your gifts so that you can fulfill your call to find meaning and purpose in your life in service to the betterment of the world?
