I have spent the past two weekends in DEEP CLEARING mode. Doing my year-end bookkeeping, deep cleaning my home, and yesterday I spent all day gathering and completing paperwork for a process that will free me from something that has held me prisoner for the past 7 (or s0) years. It is time to be FREED from the past to make way for the new. Beyond the material, this has also been a time of deep inner clearing – facing, identifying and healing wounds from the past, letting go of attachments to certain ideas, plans, fixations, etc. and listening deeply for what might still be cluttering my ego and which is yearning to be freed. All of this has been for the purpose of making room for the new to step in. As I have been diligently tending to the process of wiping the slate clean, I am finding the new peeking out from around the corner waiting to be seen. I see you and I welcome you!
Wiping the slate clean is a process we are all invited into from time to time. When what has been is proving to be no longer life-giving, it is time to let it go. When things from our past have become a burden or an obstacle to our forward movement, it is time to let them go! When we are clinging to old hurts, betrayals, wounds, etc. we cannot move forward until we let them go. The same is true of our ego attachments – attachments to fame, money, power, etc. In order to fulfill the Divine plan for ourselves (our Soul’s plan), we first have to be cleared of anything and everything that is not in harmony with that plan. It is time to wipe the slate clean.
But wiping the slate clean isn’t always easy. We have become comfortable and familiar with what has been. Comfort, however, does not equal freedom. And our Soul demands freedom! Sometimes what our culture tells we “must do to be successful” is not in harmony with our Soul’s path so we must let that go, while facing the sure judgment of those who cling to the culture’s definition of success and how to get there. Going against the flock is never easy – and yet in the path of the Soul it is almost always necessary!
Let me give you an example of this from my own journey. For years I’ve been told that I need to “be famous,” “be on Oprah,” or at the very least on Ellen. In order to be successful, I need to take my show on the road – get out there and do all those big workshops famous people do (you know the ones you pay thousands of dollars to attend and then the only one getting paid is the promoter?). I’ve had people promise to “make me famous” and that the key to my success will be travel. Well, here’s the deal folks……after a bizarre virus in 2015, I cannot travel. I cannot drive for more than an hour (sometimes 90 minutes) without becoming very ill. It then takes several hours – sometimes days for my inner equilibrium to return. It isn’t car sickness. It isn’t panic attacks. No one seems to know what it is and even after 18 months of physical therapy for “vertigo” the symptoms are still the same. There is no long distance driving travel in Lauri Lumby’s future. But beyond this limitation that can certainly be worked around (hire a driver, fly, etc.) what my Soul has said to me VERY LOUDLY and quite succinctly is “BLOOM WHERE YOU ARE PLANTED,” while showing me all the people right here in good ole Oshkosh, Wisconsin who are in need of my gifts. And it’s time. It’s time to stop hiding in my home and get out into the community sharing my magic. (something I am already doing on a daily basis informally….but now it’s time to do it more formally).
Wiping the slate clean requires that we diligently tend to all those things that are currently in the way of us pursuing and fulfilling the path of our Soul. As we recently explored in my Order of Melchizedek course, the plan our Soul has for us is far beyond what we could ever imagine for ourselves:

50% of those who voted are celebrating the Trump victory. 50% are shocked, angry, hurt and afraid. And 1/3 of those who have voted in the past, and who did not vote in this election might be looking for ways to seek asylum in Canada or the UK.
On Wednesday, as one who voted for Hillary (while wishing I was casting my vote for Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren), I was shocked, but certainly not scared. With the exception of a blinding empath migraine caused by the emotional state of the world as they reacted (positively or negatively) to the Trump victory, I was at peace, knowing that this may be EXACTLY what we need as a country (and a world) to bring forth the long-awaited change that we sooooo desperately need.
Yesterday, while visiting Stephanie Azaria’s website (www.thecosmicpath.com) and reading her response to the Trump victory, I felt the following awareness come through me and shared it with Stephanie who then shared it with her readers:
“Stephanie, an awareness comes to me as I read today’s report. Those that voted for Trump did so because this was their “cosmic duty.” It was their job to support the bringing forth of the shadow so as to bring forth a greater light. Before, I was tempted to demonize (or at the very least struggle to understand) those who chose Trump as their candidate. And yet, one of my dear students…one who is awake and discerning, conscious and full of light revealed to me she voted for Trump and why. She named all the things she hates about him and his campaign, but then explained why she chose him. In short, her answer was the same as others I know who voted for him, “He might actually help to bring forth something new.” So, now I’m swallowing my temptation to judge and seeing from a higher perspective, I understand that those who voted for Trump did what they came here to do….bring forth the shadow so as to bring forth the light.”
Regardless of our opinion or thoughts about Donald Trump, I believe we can all agree on one thing: our culture and our world are in desperate need of change and sometimes desperate need calls for desperate measures. The status quo or business as usual (represented by career politicians) simply will not do. Something new has to come forth. As my mother says, “The kitchen has to get dirtier before it can get clean,” I expect the same will be true of this presidency.
For those (me included) who did not choose Donald Trump as president, on a much higher level, perhaps this is EXACTLY what we need. Will he bring forth positive change? Maybe. Might his presidency be the cause of a complete societal collapse? Perhaps. Either way, I believe we can expect great change in the next four years, change, that quite frankly, I have been waiting a lifetime to see, and change I have waited a lifetime to help bring forth.
Yes, our world might have to get a little messy before we get to that new and clean world, this is where it begins and the way for all of us to make it through this change is LOVE. Love will help us be at peace with the messy. Love will help us move through the certain conflicts. Love will form our vision of what we want in a new world. Love will ease our minds as we move through the fear of the unknown. And love will show us the way through the debris of the old world in its collapse and how to build the new world out of the rubble.
I say “bring it on,” THIS is why we were born into this world in the first place and this is what we came here to do!

Building the New World Part 2 – Preparation
We are currently in the extreme phase of preparation for our missions of building the new world. In order to build the new world, much of what has been will be dismantled and be made new. The same is true for us. In order to be vessels through which the new world will be built, we must be dismantled and be made new. This has been the process we have undergone for the past 13+ years and which is currently culminating in what for many feels like debilitating, physical illness. Personally, I have been down for the past 7 days with a “virus” that resulted in an ear infection (I don’t remember EVER having an ear infection…if I did I was quite young), vertigo and eardrum rupture. Everyone else I know is suffering similar strange maladies, and if it isn’t some sort of virus, they are facing bizarre cancers, deeply invasive surgeries, all manner of strange physical things. And in the material world, people I know who have been working in the old paradigms, but carry within them the vision of the new, are losing their jobs!
We are definitely on the brink of CHANGE. The old world is quickly dying away and we are being REMOVED to a place of preparation so that we can be made ready to bring forth our part in building the new world that we have carried in our hearts for all the years we have walked this plane (and maybe earlier). In this time of preparation, there is only ONE thing we can do.
This is where we remember that it is our SOUL that is in charge and that our SOUL knows EXACTLY what it is S/He is doing. This is the time we let our ego rest and our Soul step in as it takes us EXACTLY where we need to be. This morning while in meditation, I received a vision that was perfectly fitting for this time of preparation and surrender. I saw a vision of myself dressed in a flowing white robe leaping off a cliff, floating gently and effortlessly to the safety of the new world below, landing safely on both feet.
I also came upon these words of St. Paul in this morning’s scripture which speaks directly to this critical time of preparation. I hope you find these as validating, supportive and encouraging as I have:
Brothers and sisters: I consider that the sufferings of this present time are as nothing compared with the glory to be revealed for us. For creation awaits with eager expectation the revelation of the children of God; for creation was made subject to futility, not of its own accord but because of the one who subjected it, in hope that creation itself would be set free from slavery to corruption and share in the glorious freedom of the children of God. We know that all creation is groaning in labor pains even until now; and not only that, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, we also groan within ourselves as we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies. For in hope we were saved. Now hope that sees for itself is not hope. For who hopes for what one sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait with endurance.
Romans 8: 18-25
Thank you for your part in helping to build a new world!

Comfort, give comfort to my people, says your God. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her that her service is at an end, her guilt is expiated; indeed, she has received from the hand of the LORD double for all her sins. A voice cries out: In the desert prepare the way of the LORD! Make straight in the wasteland a highway for our God! Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill shall be made low; the rugged land shall be made a plain, the rough country, a broad valley. Then the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all people shall see it together; for the mouth of the LORD has spoken. Go up on to a high mountain, Zion, herald of glad tidings; cry out at the top of your voice, Jerusalem, herald of good news! Fear not to cry out and say to the cities of Judah: Here is your God! Here comes with power the Lord GOD, who rules by his strong arm; here is his reward with him, his recompense before him. Like a shepherd he feeds his flock; in his arms he gathers the lambs, carrying them in his bosom, and leading the ewes with care.

Words of Comfort and Relief
“Comfort, give comfort to my people, says your God. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her that her service is at an end, her guilt is expiated”
If the tears that began to fall from my eyes in reading this words are any indication……we have all grown tired – tired of the struggles of the human condition. Tired from the conflict, the hatred, the discrimination, the separation and the war. For 10,000 years, we have made conflict with each other and worked tirelessly in destroying the earth for the sake of our own ignorance and greed. We have grown tired in the face of a seemingly hopeless struggle.
But there is good news: The struggle is not hopeless, in fact, the remedy is just around the corner, it resides within you, and the time is NOW.
The time of pain, separation, struggle, poverty, hunger, war is OVER. The time to save the earth from our own efforts to destroy it is NOW. The change is not, however, coming from the top-down as we had hoped. The change will NOT come from those institutions who have a vested interest in raping, pillaging, destroying the earth for their own selfish desires and neither will it come from those content to grow rich and powerful on the backs of the huddling masses. NO, the change will not come from them. Instead, the CHANGE BEGINS WITH YOU!
A voice crying out in the wilderness talking only to sand? I think not. I think you hear my words and understand my intent. CHANGE begins with you….in your willingness to do the work of healing your own separation, easing your own anxiety, calming your own fears and turning to the God who loves you for COMFORT. The change begins with you…..What are you waiting for?
What are you waiting for? Change starts with you! How are you taking time out of your day to receive and remember God’s comforting love and experiencing the healing of your own separation, pain and fear?
Spiritual Practices – Balm of Comfort
Slowly and meditatively read the scripture passage above. Go back and read it again, this time imagining it is a love letter from God to you. Read the words as if they are personally addressed to you. Receive these words as a balm of healing comfort, support and love. Allow the words to sink deeply into your being. Rest in the comfort of God’s love. Feel the peace. Feel the love. Imagine yourself being held in God’s loving embrace. Sink deeply into the feeling of being held and comforted.
Rest in silence and return periodically to the reading, allowing it to sink even deeper into you.
Record your thoughts and feelings in your journal or notebook.
Will we ever comprehend how much God loves us? Will we ever REMEMBER the love that we are in God? Will we ever understand and live from this place of love – absent hatred, anxiety, conflict, separation, jealousy, discrimination, wrath, the need for vengeance? On our own, the answer is no. But with God – YES. This is the purpose for which Authentic Freedom was developed – to give us tools to TURN to God for help, healing, comfort – and in doing so, being freed of the false perception of separation that is the cause of the fear, anxiety and conflict of the human condition. Return again and again and again to God. Remember God’s love.
AND BE FREE
And as we are freed, the love that we are ripples out into the world in waves, changing the world from fear into love.
Again, what are we waiting for? The time is NOW! Return to God. Know Love. Be love. Re-create a world of love and for love. Amen!
This week’s Authentic Freedom Virtual Church supplement explores the changeability of the human condition. Sometimes we experience times of abundance, and sometimes due to circumstances outside our control, we experience times of lack. St. Paul reminds us of the invitation to find equanimity in the constant changing nature of the human condition.

Brothers and sisters: I know how to live in humble circumstances; I know also how to live with abundance. In every circumstance and in all things I have learned the secret of being well fed and of going hungry, of living in abundance and of being in need. I can do all things in him who strengthens me. Still, it was kind of you to share in my distress. My God will fully supply whatever you need, in accord with his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. To our God and Father, glory forever and ever. Amen.

To Have or to Have Not
In Paul’s letter to the Philippians, he makes a very astute observation about the changeability of human circumstances. Due to circumstances outside of our control, sometimes we have an abundance of what we need and sometimes we do not. Reading between the lines of Paul’s letter, we also hear his acknowledgment of the typical human response to either circumstance. When we have an abundance of material wealth, we often take it for granted, spending it foolishly as our compulsive drives compel us to seek out the thrill of accumulation or seeking after other people’s approval as we try to “keep up with the Joneses.” When we do not have abundance, we slip into fear and dread – sure that this will forever be the circumstance of our life. This fear can also lead us, in our current credit-driven culture, to overspend in rebellion of the fear we are feeling inside, or to slip into depression over the paralyzing fear of lack.
What Paul discovered, however, is that through diligent attention to his spiritual practice (for him, turning to God in prayer), he found the inner peace he needed to navigate both worlds. Through his attention to prayer, he found the peace to weather the times of “humble circumstances” and the temperance to not get taken over by gluttony during times of abundance. This is Paul’s lesson for us this week.
Where are you tempted to take periods of abundance for granted?
Where are you tempted during times of abundance to be frivolous or gluttonous in your use of these resources?
Where are you tempted, during times of humble circumstances, to believe that this will ALWAYS be the circumstance of your life?
Where are you tempted to allow the fear to control you during times of lack?
Spiritual Practices – Turn, Turn, Turn
The key to living with both humble and abundant circumstances is to cultivate humility. Humility arises as a result of transcending our fears and remembering our Oneness with God in Love. Humility reminds us that God is present in all things, at all times – the rich and the poor, the good and the bad, the abundant and the lacking. God – the source of peace, is never absent and is always present giving us exactly what we need in each moment – even when it appears, by human standards, that our needs are not being met – God is there, carrying us along the ever-changing wheel of human experiences.
LISTEN to the song, Turn, Turn, Turn by the Byrds. (You Tube Link here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4ga_M5Zdn4 )
REFLECT on the words of the song.
READ Paul’s letter to the Philippians.
REFLECT on the movement in your own life between periods of abundance and “humble conditions.” How have you felt during those changing periods? Did you experience peaceful equanimity in either or both experience? During times of peace, how did you achieve that? If you felt anxiety or stress or found yourself using the times of abundance frivolously, what drove those behaviors?
WRITE your thoughts and reflections on the above.
REST in silence as you allow the meditation to become integrated within you. In this rest, allow yourself to feel the presence of God’s peace.
In Authentic Freedom, Humility is considered one of the seven virtues, specifically, the virtue that arises when we REMEMBER our Oneness with God in Love. Humility allows us to know peace during the challenging times of our lives and to practice temperance during the abundant periods of our lives. The path to humility is through diligent attention to our spiritual practice which helps us to remember our Oneness with God. In this, we come to know that the true source of all our needs is God – this is where we find nourishment, sustenance, and support – regardless of the external circumstances of our lives.
How are you being invited to surrender to God as the Source through which all of your needs are being met?
The human journey is a continual process of changing and growing – a cyclical process of dying and birthing – letting go of that which no longer serves us and making room for the new life that wants to be made known through us. These life changes are often accompanied by feelings of discontent, boredom, loneliness, anxiety, depression and even despair. How do we know our life is ready for the next cycle of change and what do we do about it?
The Constant Process of Birthing Ourselves
Life is a continual process of birthing ourselves. Beginning with the moment our father’s sperm meets our mother’s egg, life consists of a constant process of evolution, growth and change. And change does not cease once we reach our full height sometime during adolescence or because we achieved certain milestones like graduating high school or college. In fact, I sometimes think that once we reach “adulthood,” our growth accelerates – especially at significant times such as marriage, childbirth, midlife and elderhood – we just do a really good job of resisting or altogether ignoring the continual unfoldment necessary for Soul.
Soul is the uniquely creative way in which we have been gifted to find meaning and purpose in our lives and the way in which we are gifted to contribute to the betterment of the world. As we move through the journey of life, Soul desires to reveal itself in deeper, more meaningful and more expansive ways. Soul is never done revealing itself…..if we let it. Unfortunately, we tend to spend more time resisting or ignoring Soul than allowing it to be born. Fortunately, the desire of the Soul is greater than any resistance we could throw at it and it will persist in trying to be born…or die trying. Yes, we can ignore and even deny the continual revelation of our Soul…even to the point of the Soul’s “death” (the Soul never really dies it will just feel that way) but the harder we resist the more uncomfortable things will become.
Heralding the Soul
While the birthing of the Soul is a deeply spiritual and mysterious process, its effects will be felt on both an emotional and physical level. Soul, when it is ready to be done with a current phase of our life and is preparing to move to the next more expansive, more fulfilling state, starts to get restless, and we along with it. Restlessness, discontent, boredom, are all feelings there to alert us to the Soul preparing for its next stage of unfoldment. As the restlessness sets in, anxiety is sure to follow as our very human fear of change begins to resist the Soul….knowing that if Soul is ready to be born anew, that something will have to die or be set aside. Like the plant that must die in order that it can reseed and be born anew, part of what we have known our life to be will need to pass away in order to make room for something new. If we acknowledge this anxiety for what it is, identify what it is that is calling for release, grieve the loss and let it go, then we can gently surrender to the new opportunities Soul is promising for us. If, however, we resist the call of the Soul and continue to resist it, then all hell breaks loose. Resistance to Soul is known by feelings of profound anxiety, panic, debilitating despair and depression. And if we further resist the birth of Soul, sensations move beyond our emotions and take root in our body through physical pain and even disease. Chronic pain, fibromyalgia, digestive issues, panic attacks, auto-immune disease, are all thought to be related to resistance to Soul. (Birthing the Soul also means naming, claiming, standing up for all of our truths….especially the ones we’d rather forget or keep hidden). The harder we work to resist our Soul (and our truths), the more drastic measures Soul/Truth will engage to try to get our attention.
Surrender to Soul
To alleviate the discomfort associated with the transitions of Soul, we only need to do one thing. LET OUR SOUL BE BORN! When we GET OUT OF THE WAY and SURRENDER to the Soul as it is trying to be born, we are relieved of the pain that accompanies the Soul’s transition. Like labor, the birth of the Soul is never pain free, but when we surrender to the process, accept loving support from family, friends and professionals, we are able to move through the transition in a smoother and easier way. When we acknowledge that which needs to be released in order to make room for the new and grieve that loss, when we employ effective tools for moving through our own fear and resistance to the new life that is not yet known, then we find grace and ease in the process of the Soul’s birthing. And, like the birth of a child, when we allow Soul to be born, we are rewarded in greater and more miraculous ways than we ever could have imagined before.

The last day of school is just one of the many transitions we face in our lives. How do we negotiate the frequent changes in our lives without completely losing our minds?
Bye Bye Elementary School
This morning I dropped my baby off for his last day of Elementary school. Holy Cow! How did that happen so fast? Wil is still the little Buddha baby sitting content and satisfied in his baby swing. And then there’s Maggie. Today, in her final day of 7th grade, wanted to get all dressed up, have her hair done and put on makeup. What happened to the little girl with the flowery dress dancing in the bubbles? Transition….that’s what happened! (and NO….it is not just me getting old….I’m still the Stevie Nicks wannabe in the black lace dress with platform boots wailing out “Edge of Seventeen! I Swear!)
The Wheel Keeps on Turning
Other than death and taxes, there is one other certainty in life….and that is CHANGE! Change, transition, movement is the one constant thing that we can expect out of life. The problem is that we are not really comfortable with change. Change means loss…it means the death of something….and this loss causes us anxiety, fear, worry. We become used to something, to a certain routine, to certain relationships….then suddenly….THEY CHANGE! Kids grow up. Parents age. We age. Jobs end. Relationships die and/or change. Life is a constant flow of change, change, change. The good news is that while these changes do cause us trepidation, there are graceful ways to move through life’s transitions and not completely lose our minds.
To Everything Turn Turn Turn
Since change is one of the three certain things in our lives, it might be helpful to explore some tools that help us to find peace in the midst of change.
1) Acknowledge the change….the loss…the death. Look at it. Observe it for what it is. Admit that it is real. My son is now 11 and leaving elementary school behind. My daughter wants to look good for the last day of school.
2) Take time to appreciate the good things of the past that led to this change. For example, this morning I took time to reflect back on my children as babies, toddlers, young children and remembered all the great things that have led them to where they are today.
3) Recognize change as a kind of death….a loss of sorts.
4) Give yourself permission to grieve that loss. Oh yes….I will be shedding some tears at Wil’s awards ceremony later this morning.
5) Take a DEEP BREATH. Breathe some more. And breathe again.
6) Be open to the new life that will come as a result of this transition. For Wil, I look forward to his time in Middle school. He has been emotionally ready for some time….now he will get a chance to shine on a whole new level. Maggie…..well, it is Middle School….a time of “dangerous opportunities.” For her….I will just BREATHE and hold a space for her to become who she needs to be.
Time Keeps on Tickin Tickin Tickin into the Future
What more can I say? Life is change. Period. I’m just grateful for the spiritual tools and practices that I have learned along the way which help me (the recovering compulsive planner and control freak who craves safety, security, predictability and surety) to navigate the waters of what now seems to be a daily occurrance. Change is here to stay…so I’d better get used to it!
How do you deal with transition?
What are some effective tools you have discovered that help provide support during times of transition?
Authentic Freedom Ministries
Today’s blog explores the question of how we are called to respond to things in the world we perceive as needing change. This seems especially relevant as we observe the current political, religious and economic unrest.
The following question was posed to a great spiritual teacher:
“How can we best encourage change on this planet? Do you think we should fight or oppose old organizations which are resisting change?”
“Be aware that whenever you fight something, you are focusing on it and giving it energy. If you wish to remove something from manifestation, it is better to focus on its opposite: give that good quality or organization energy, and watch it flourish and grow, knowing that the old will wither away in its on time.” (question and response from the book, Power of the Magdalene by Stuart Wilson and Joanna Prentis)
This is a profound question with an even more profound answer. As I have been witnessing the political events unfolding in Madison (Wisconsin), around the country and around the world, and watching both sides duke it out, I have been wondering what the most compassionate, loving and peaceful response would really be. I had a sense of what felt right for me, but I could not give it words until I found the above dialogue. When I read these words, it resonated on such a deep level, that I knew I had to share it. So, there it is! Reflect. Ponder. Discern. Does this feel like truth for you?
What change do you want to see in the world?
How are you being called to hold the vision of positive change in your consciousness, prayer, meditation, etc?
Where are you tempted to “fight against”, how can you entertain, indulge in its opposite instead?
Where are you being called to put your energy toward compassion, peace, joy?
PS: One of the practices I enjoy for creating change is sacred chant. Chanting the names of the Divine works to alter our own vibration along with the vibrations of the universe and the vibration of the loving intentions we hold in our hearts and in our minds. Here is an example of one chant that helps to raise our vibration to more closely reflect Divine compassion and love, try it on for size!
