Overcoming the “Demons” of the Covid-19 Pandemic

First a note on demons.  I do not believe in demons in the form of the dude wearing a red morph suit sporting horns and holding a pitchfork.  I do not believe in external embodied entities whose job is to wreak havoc on our lives.  Instead, I think of demons as human-made.  Demons are something we have created in our minds made up out of our fears.  That being said, these demons can become part of our collective fear and something that can be seen, named, and therefore conquered.  Conquering our demons is dependent on our ability to see them and name them.  Once we have done this, we can use the tools we have been given to “conquer” these demons so that they no longer have power over us.  These are the demons who presented themselves to me this morning as I did my invisible work of diving deep into society’s ills to uncover the demons that are driving our current (mass hysteria) behaviors.  Let’s name and claim these demons together so that we might deprive them of their power over us and move more closely to a place of peace and contentment within the chaos that is currently ruling our world.

CHAOS

Speaking of chaos, this is the first demon to present themselves during my morning meditation.  Chaos presented itself to me as a rampantly tumbling ball made up of flailing limbs – arms and legs flailing and tumbling around the world wreaking havoc wherever it flailed.  Chaos was screeching and screaming as it blindly flailed about.  Chaos seemed not to have a face and was difficult to approach because of the force of its flailing.  Stepping closer to it, I felt the force of its flailing and within that the unbridled fear that drove it.  I also felt within it an insidious plan and was within the depths of chaos those who benefit from a world chaotically thrashing about.  I asked Chaos to show me its face and what appeared was a face similar to Lord Voldemort as he hid in Professor Quirrell’s turban or the shriveled Voldemort who was thrown naked into the cauldron ready to be reborn into his true power and form.

CONFUSION

Confusion was the second demon to appear.  He came in the form of a man who simply stood in place.  His body had become paralyzed and he could not move, but his head was uncontrollably and frantically being thrown about in all directions.  The image I saw was reminiscent of the scenes in horror movies where a demon is transforming from their cloaked human form into something horrifying.  Coming forth out of his mouth was a sort of incomprehensible babbling.  CUE Jacob’s Ladder

PANIC

I didn’t need to look to hard to find Panic.  Panic was in the mass of humanity running around like chickens with their heads cut off.  Triggered by fear and mass hysteria, they were running here and there grabbing up everything they could carry that they believed might save them from ……what?  Death?  Illness?  Feeling alone?  Fear?  It was a mass of people without the tools needed to gather verifiable information, reason carefully and therefore come up with a reasonable response to that information.  Instead, fear alone was driving their actions – unbridled and in this case unnecessary fear.  CUE WWZ

After Naming the Demons

After we have effectively named the demon, our next task is to conquer them.  In this case, we need a new understanding of what it means to conquer.  In my world, fear begets fear and violence begets violence.  We are not meant to “destroy” the demon with violence (what we resist will persist).  Instead, we are invited to draw close enough to the demon to see the fear that is driving it.  Then, we heal it at its fear.  Once we heal its fear, the demon can return to its true form which is peacefulness, reason and love.

Healing Demons

As a shadow and depth worker, I have been working on the collective fear.  I have been sitting with the demons, holding them in loving compassion and witnessing to their release.  All they really want is to be loved.  And when we love these “demons” the fear that drives them simply melts off them revealing the love that dwells beneath all that fear.  In order to do this work, however, I first had to heal these demons within myself.  The same will be true for you.  If you find yourself drawn into the Chaos, paralyzed by Confusion or driven by Panic, you will first have to heal these demons within yourself.  Once you have done this you can begin to use your gifts to heal the demons of the collective.

Healing Your Own Demons

Healing our own demons is the work of a lifetime.  I have spent the past 30 years doing this for myself and out of this doing, I have discovered, developed and practiced effective tools for healing and transcending the fears inside of me that have limited my life.  Being free of these fears is an ongoing practice and something I work with every single day!  In life we are never completely free of fear, but with the proper tools, we can eliminate fear’s control over our lives.  The Authentic Freedom protocol is absolutely THE BEST tool I have been given for the healing of fears.  You can learn the Authentic Freedom protocol and how to apply it through my online course or my book by the same name.  I also offer one-on-one support if that would better serve you.  Learn more HERE.

Made for Times Such as These

This morning I am grateful for the inner guidance that commanded me to take this week as a “week of silence.”  During this week I have and continue to be in a deep dive – working with and through the darkness of our world.  Between Covid-19, mass hysteria and the Dow Jones collapse, I’ve been busy.  While working in the depths and observing the chaos that has been stirred I feel strangely calm, even strengthened and vilified in the face of the world’s response to fear.

I was made for times such as these.

In fact, I’ve spent my whole life preparing and training for a world in utter chaos as it stares its own death in the face.  As I was told in a childhood dream, the world (as we have known it) is dying. Efforts to “save” it have failed. (THANK GOD! Should we really try to save a world that was built on fear, power and control????)  Now we are facing the inevitable and necessary death of that which needs to die.  It is long past the time for that which was built on the unsustainable foundation of fear, power and control to end and for something new to take its place.  This fact, however, does not preclude the mass hysteria and fear that is rising as humanity clings to what they have known which is now (in some cases literally) being torn from their cold, dead fingers.

We are in the death throes of our world…

And there is nothing we can do but sit back and watch. For those of us who have known this was coming, there is a strange mix of vindication (I told you this was coming) and profound sorrow.  It is a terrible thing to watch the world die.  It is even more painful to watch normally reasonable people lose their shit – especially when we know there is another way.

The “other way” is to do what myself and hundreds (if not thousands) like me have done.  We have been open to the unique tools which would support us in freeing ourselves from the fears, wounds and societal conditioning that has prevented us from living (what I call) Authentic Freedom.

Authentic Freedom is a deep inner sense of peace and contentment that is independent of the external circumstances of our lives, and in this case, our world.

We have become masters in this work and many (like myself) have shared our tools with those who similarly want this kind of freedom.  It is in cultivating this inner sense of peace and contentment that we are able to stare DEATH in the face and not panic under His gaze.  It is also this inner freedom that allows us to maintain a deep sense of calm as the world around us is losing its shit.

In the beginning and middle stages of spiritual growth, it is helpful to perceive God as intimately personal and human-like and as something distinct from us.  At the same time, these personal images of God do not begin to touch the vast nature of our Divine Source.   Eventually, to truly embrace the fullness of the truth of Oneness, and of love as our true nature, we have to look beyond these personal images to something more infinite.  Looking to the deeper translation of the term Abwoon that Jesus so frequently used to address God, we begin to get a glimpse of the vastness of the Divine.

O Though from whom the breath of life flows and is present in all forms of vibration and light.           (Prayers of the Cosmos, Neil Douglas-Klotz)

It is difficult to grasp the transcendent, indwelling and infinite nature of God with our human mind, and so we have to reach beyond our minds to the lived experience in order to grasp this truth.  The writings attributed to John best express the fullness of this lived experience.  It is clear through these writings that the author had a deeply personal and experiential relationship with the I Am.  It is through this experience that the concept of God as love itself is most clearly articulated.

God is love, and whoever remains in love remains in God and God in him.  In this is love brought to perfection among us, that we have confidence on the day of judgment because as he is, so are we in this world.  There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear because fear has to do with punishment, and so one who fears is not yet perfect in love.  We love because God loved us first.       1 John 4: 16b – 19

As the author of John experienced, God is love.  Applying this expanded understanding to our existing relationship with God, it stands to reason that if God is love, it is in fact, love that created us.  As such, the love that is God lives in and through us.  In this way, not only are we loved, we are love itself.  Love is, in fact, our rightful inheritance, our true nature, our identity.  We are able to live out of this true nature when we remember that we are One with God and hence, one in love.

HOLY VIRTUE – Compassion

As we accept the truth that we are One in love with God we become content in the love that we are and we no longer feel compelled to seek that love outside of us.  This love-filled contentment invites us to explore the rewriting of our fairytales.  As we (the protagonist) come to know the love that is deep within ourselves, we exponentially increase our ability to live in the truth of this love.  Knowing that we are comprised of love, we no longer need to build defenses around ourselves, and the fortresses around our hearts begin to disintegrate and we find that we can trust ourselves and others.  Understanding that conditional love can never be a source of fulfillment, we no longer find ourselves compelled to seek the handsome prince or beautiful princess that will be able to give us our happily ever after.  Love, we remember, is who we are. As we grow in this confidence, we are able to go out into the world reflecting the love that we now know within ourselves.  It is here that we shall experience the truest expression of the virtue of compassion.  It is here that we shall find our happily ever after.

Scripture as a Manual for Ascension

For the past 26 years I have studied scripture.  Beyond the scholarly, historical, contextual, sociological and theological applications of scripture, I have explored scripture through the practices of contemplative meditation and prayer.  I have also studied the Kabbalistic (the mystical branch of Judaism) interpretation of scripture.  With all of this, I have come to believe that scripture is much more than an interpretive history of the Jewish people, and much, much more than an historical account of Jesus’ life and teachings. In fact, to a true historian, scripture is neither of these.  Instead, as the Kabbalists would suggest, and which Jesus seemed to teach and demonstrate:

Scripture is an instructional guide for the evolution of human consciousness.

In more popular terms, scripture is a manual for ascension (self-actualization).  (Read here by ascension isn’t enough)

In order to approach scripture as an instructional manual and guide for the evolution of human consciousness, we first have to remove it from the trappings of patriarchal conditioning and control.

  • We have to move beyond the image of the Divine as the “old man in the sky” whose approval we have to earn and who will punish us for our human transgressions.
  • We have to move past the interpretations that mean to control us through intimidation and fear, threats of punishment and eternal damnation.
  • We have to keep scripture in its proper place, written in a specific time for a specific audience for a specific reason.
  • We also have to understand the literary genres which are in use – myth, allegory, poetry, song lyrics, reflective and interpretive history.
  • We have to take Jesus off the pedestal and we might even have to (gasp) stop looking to him as having saved us from sin or death and instead look at how he teaches us how to live!
  • We have to forget the idea that Jesus came to start a new religion or start a church. Jesus was a Jew and he remained a Jew.  His followers were practicing Jews until they were kicked out of the Temple.  Then they continued their Jewish practices in their own home, adding Jesus’ teachings to the mix.  None of what we now call sacraments were original to Jesus – these were all Jewish practices which the later Church decided to make their own.
  • Finally, we are invited to examine scripture as the Mystics, Prophets and Kabbalists would have (another topic for another time – was Jesus in fact a Kabbalist?) – through meditation and prayer, seeking out the message for each of us as individuals, along with the universal message of LOVE.

When we look past the patriarchal, fear, power and control trappings of scripture, we find a book that describes through myth, metaphor, allegory, story-telling (of people who may or may not have lived), poetry, song lyrics, and the remembered teachings of Jesus, how to evolve our human consciousness from a place of fear to an attitude and experience of LOVE.  Through scripture, we are invited to move beyond the natural fears and limitations of the human experience so that we can remember our truth nature as:

One with the Divine (Love)

One within ourselves

One with each other

One with all of creation

This experience of Oneness is the “salvation” that Jesus attempted to bring. Jesus had come to experience this “salvation” (authentic freedom) within himself, which he then attempted to teach others.  Using the manual that had been given to him (Hebrew scripture), he tried to show his friends the way.  After his death, his friends tried to remember what Jesus had taught them, created their own written interpretations of his words, and then went out to share this with others.

The true mission and intention of Jesus’ message got lost somewhere along the way. But in this case, what was lost is easily found.  When we follow the formula above, we are able to see the “ascension manual” hiding in plain sight.  To illustrate this, I have taken a passage from Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians and reinterpreted it in a language that we might more easily understand:

Concerning times and seasons, brothers and sisters,
you have no need for anything to be written to you.
For you yourselves know very well
that the day of transformation will come like a thief at night.
When people are saying, “Peace and security,”
then sudden disaster comes upon them,
like labor pains upon a pregnant woman,
and they will not escape.
But you, brothers and sisters, are not in ignorance,
for that day to overtake you like a thief.
For all of you are children of the light
and children of the day.
We are also of the night and of the darkness

But we are not blind.  We see and we know.

Therefore, let us not remain blind as the rest do,
but let us stay alert and attentive.
For the Divine did not destine us for punishment,
but to gain freedom through what Jesus taught us,
who showed us the path,

so that we may live in freedom as he did.
Therefore, encourage one another and build one another up,
as indeed you do.

Here are Paul’s original words as translated in the New International Version – Catholic Edition.

Concerning times and seasons, brothers and sisters,
you have no need for anything to be written to you.
For you yourselves know very well
that the day of the Lord will come like a thief at night.
When people are saying, “Peace and security,”
then sudden disaster comes upon them,
like labor pains upon a pregnant woman,
and they will not escape.

But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness,
for that day to overtake you like a thief.
For all of you are children of the light
and children of the day.
We are not of the night or of darkness.
Therefore, let us not sleep as the rest do,
but let us stay alert and sober.
For God did not destine us for wrath,
but to gain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep
we may live together with him.
Therefore, encourage one another and build one another up,
as indeed you do.

1 Thes 5: 1-6, 9-11

Independence Day Message

Today in the US, we commemorate the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the day when the US citizens declared their freedom from British rule. Of course things didn’t end there as the Revolutionary War had only just begun and continued to be fought until 1783. It took a little over 7 years for the US to actually gain its independence.

But, as we all know, the “war” for freedom continues. Here at Authentic Freedom, we are concerned about the any limitations to human freedom in our world, but more importantly, we acknowledge that TRUE FREEDOM can only be known from within. Authentic Freedom is defined here as a persistent and enduring sense of peace, contentment and joy that is INDEPENDENT of the external circumstances in our lives. This truth has remained self-evident throughout human history – women, men and children who have been able to find peace within themselves even in the face of some of the most dire experiences of the human condition. They found this peace by detaching from the externals and drawing their attention within…..deep within in their connection with Self (that which some call “God”).

My invitation for us today is three-fold:
1)To continue our work on cultivating inner freedom.
2) To read and reflect on the documents which set forth the ideas of freedom in our country and in the world.
3)To pray for all the people in our world who are suffering because of the infringements on their own personal freedom and dignity.
