My mission and purpose on this human plane is LOVE. Pure and simple, I am here to be LOVE and live from that LOVE.  This is a truth I have always known, but it has taken me 53 years to unravel from the conditioning that sought to tell me otherwise.

The same is true for you. You are here for the single purpose of love.  Period!  There is no other purpose to the human experience.  We are here to learn how to love.

This is the truth that has been taught by every single spiritual teacher from Abraham and Sarah, to Isaac and Ishamel, to Moses and Miriam, to Jesus and Mary Magdalene, the Buddha, Kuan Yin, Mohammed, Black Elk, the Thirteen Grandmothers, Amma, the Dalai Lama, and every other spiritual teacher we might try to name. They all taught the same thing (sometimes using different words) – LOVE.

We are here for the purpose of love and the simple truth is that LOVE IS A CHOICE. It really is that simple.  While simple, it doesn’t mean the choice is easy.  In order to choose love, we first have to unravel from all the ways in which we have been conditioned by fear.  Fear that has been taught to us by:

  • Our tribe
  • Our church
  • Our government
  • Our education system
  • The medical system
  • Corporations
  • Advertising
  • Banks and other financial institutions
  • Our culture
  • Our family
  • Our friends
  • Our teachers
  • Our pastors
  • Etc. etc. etc.

We do not need to look very far to see how we have been conditioned how to fear. Unless we are face to face with a hungry lion, or a man with a gun, fear is simply a matter of conditioning. Oh yes, our survival fears are very real, but the rest are simply lies told to us by those who are either in a place of fear themselves, or who have found that they can manipulate and control others through the use of fear.  Shame on them!

But we have a choice. We can CHOOSE LOVE instead of the lies we’ve been told.  We can choose love instead of fear.  And if we don’t have the tools to assist us in choosing love, Authentic Freedom.Love is here to help.

But Authentic Freedom cannot do this alone! We need your help.  The first step in that help is to let the world know that Love is a choice, and to invite the world to make that choice.  Here is what you can do and my invitation to you:

Go our CHOOSE LOVE Facebook page HERE. (dot) Love Weekly

(sample 1)

When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together. And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim. Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven staying in Jerusalem. At this sound, they gathered in a large crowd, but they were confused because each one heard them speaking in his own language. They were astounded, and in amazement they asked, “Are not all these people who are speaking Galileans? Then how does each of us hear them in his native language? We are Parthians, Medes, and Elamites, inhabitants of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the districts of Libya near Cyrene, as well as travelers from Rome, both Jews and converts to Judaism, Cretans and Arabs, yet we hear them speaking in our own tongues of the mighty acts of God.”

Acts 2: 1-11

The Holy Spirit and Kundalini

In the Pentecost narrative, the Holy Spirit is depicted as something outside of us, coming down upon the disciples, as if from the heavens. The purpose of the Holy Spirit, as described in this narrative, is to empower the disciples to live fully out of their unique spiritual gifts (here described as speaking in tongues) in service to God and for the betterment of the world. The Holy Spirit empowers them to act in ways beyond what they might have previously thought possible.

In the Hindu and Yogic traditions, there is a similar kind of empowering energy and experience known as Kundalini. Kundalini is thought to be the seed of our potential, carrying within it our unique giftedness and call to service. As we grow and mature spiritually, the Kundalini is awakened and empowers us to live our potential to its fullest. The difference between Kundalini and the Holy Spirit, as it is depicted in the Pentecost narrative, is that Kundalini resides within us and eventually explodes out of the top of our head as opposed to coming into the top of our head from outside of us. I often wonder if Kundalini and the Holy Spirit are not in fact one and the same.

How have you become aware of a spiritual awakening happening in you?

How have you supported this spiritual awakening?

Spiritual Practices – Welcoming the Holy Spirit

Set aside 20-30 minutes to enter into this meditation practice. You will need your computer or personal music device to access the music that will be used in this practice.

  1. Sit in silence. Begin your practice with a personal prayer/request/statement of intention that your desire is to welcome the Holy Spirit – to be open to awakening the Holy Spirit’s within (or outside) of you. In stating this intention, you are agreeing to accepting the gifts the Spirit wishes to awaken and empower in you.
  2. Listen to the following song, Veni Sancte Spiritus, from the Taize community: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eaet60_DuFY
  3. As you are listening, imagine that the Holy Spirit is either coming down upon you, or awakening from the center of your belly and arising within you.
  4. Listen to the song a second time and repeat the visualization if you feel so called.
  5. Be attentive to any physical, emotional or mental sensations you may experience during the meditation.
  6. Record your thoughts and reflections in a journal or notebook.

Authentic Freedom

“Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”

(1 Cor 3: 17)

In the Epilogue to Authentic Freedom, we speak of the process of discernment. Discernment is the process we use to distinguish the voice of Truth (God) from the voice of our ego. The primary distinction between God and ego is concisely articulated by Paul in his first letter to the Corinthians. Truth leads us to freedom. Freedom, however, is not something that is measured outside of us, but is known in an inner experience of expansiveness. Freedom leads us to love, peace, joy, contentment and fulfillment. Freedom is known in a life where there is meaning and purpose through which we are freely and generously sharing our own unique giftedness in service to God for the betterment of the world. This is Authentic Freedom.

How are you experiencing the freedom that is your Divine heritage?

Where are you experiencing this freedom as being constricted?

What are the fears that are causing you to live a life that is anything less than free?

(sample 2)

Jesus said to the crowds:
“This is how it is with the kingdom of God;
it is as if a man were to scatter seed on the land
and would sleep and rise night and day
and through it all the seed would sprout and grow,
he knows not how.
Of its own accord the land yields fruit,
first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear.
And when the grain is ripe, he wields the sickle at once,
for the harvest has come.”

He said,
“To what shall we compare the kingdom of God,
or what parable can we use for it?
It is like a mustard seed that, when it is sown in the ground,
is the smallest of all the seeds on the earth.
But once it is sown, it springs up and becomes the largest of plants
and puts forth large branches,
so that the birds of the sky can dwell in its shade.”
With many such parables
he spoke the word to them as they were able to understand it.
Without parables he did not speak to them,
but to his own disciples he explained everything in private.

MK 4: 26-34

When it’s Appropriate to Cease from Striving

Each and every one of us are on this plain for the sake of fulfilling our Soul’s purpose.  Our Soul’s purpose is that which gives our life meaning and a sense of purpose and through which we are empowered, through our unique giftedness to be a vessel through which the Divine is made real in our world.  We are the vessel of God’s love and it is through our Soul’s purpose that we are able to be and do this.

The fulfillment of our Soul’s purpose requires effort on our part.  We take steps to discover who we are and what our unique gifts are.  We do the work of identifying, healing and releasing that within us that might otherwise hinder the fulfillment of our Soul’s purpose (fears, unhealed wounds from our past, compulsive behaviors, etc.).  We connect with the Divine within for guidance on how we are called to live out our Soul’s purpose and we take steps toward that end.  These are the appropriate and necessary steps in striving toward our Soul’s purpose. But, at some time, we have to cease from striving.

Like the farmer who has cultivated her field and planted his seed, at some point the hard work must end.  Now it is time for nature to take its course.  The sun shines.  The rains fall.  And the seed grows.  Not because the farmer is standing over the seed yelling at it to hurry up and grow, hurry up and produce fruit.  The seed grows because that is what a seed does.  It grows in its own time, in its own way and the growth depends upon the whims of nature.  None of this is within the farmer’s control.  At this point, all the farmer can do is wait and hope….and in some cases, pray.

The same is true for us.  When we have done everything we can do to support the fulfillment of our Soul’s purpose and when any additional effort toward that end simply feels “like work,” it is time to stop.  We have cultivated the soil.  We have planted and tended the seeds.  Now there is nothing left to do but wait, hope, and pray.

Where have you witnessed these cycles of planting and waiting in your own journey?

Spiritual Practice – Waiting

When we are at the stage of our spiritual development and the Soul’s unfolding where our work is done, all we can do is wait.  Waiting is probably the most difficult part of the journey because in it, there is nothing we can do to hasten things along and our “doing” only ends up being counterproductive. So we wait.  But in the waiting is where all our “demons” show themselves – doubt, fear, unbelief.  It is also in the waiting where we find ourselves seeking, grasping, trying to find something “to do.”  It is also during the waiting where we might be tempted to give up on our Soul’s unfolding all together.  It is in the waiting that our spiritual practice is ever-more critical. In the waiting we double up on our spiritual practice and we employ every practice we have to DO NOTHING.

Sitting in silence is one of the most challenging of all spiritual practices.  But during these times of waiting, it is ever more important to seek after the silence.

For your spiritual practice this week, I invite you to SIT IN THE SILENCE.  Just be.  Just sit.  Do not do.  Do not think, ponder, reflect.  Just be.

Observe the depth of transformation that takes place by allowing yourself to simply be.

Authentic Freedom –

Last week we spoke of the sacral chakra and its relationship with shame.  This week, we address the sacral chakra as the center of our creativity and where the seed of our Soul’s purpose resides.  Who we are and who we are meant to be in this life dwells within the center of our lower abdomen.  It starts there as a seed – the seed of God that is planted within us.  Within this seed is the knowledge of who we are and who we came to be in this life.  Our life journey is about nurturing and cultivating that seed so that we can be the people God made us to be.  This is our unique contribution to the world and the way in which we are called to be God’s love in the world.  The fear related to this energy center is the fear that “I will not be able to bring forth life that will persist.”  When we heal this fear, we come to understand that we have been uniquely gifted to be a vessel of Divine love in the world and we work toward being this.  Fortitude is the virtue that arises out of us when we understand our giftedness and our call and fortitude supports us in working toward the fulfillment of that call.

My Approach to Scripture: You will notice that scripture plays a predominant role in my writing and in most of my local and online courses. Please note that my approach to scripture is unlike any you have likely experienced before!  I do not approach scripture from a dogmatic or doctrinal perspective.  Neither do I use it as a way to instill fear or manipulate specific actions or behaviors.  Instead, I approach scripture as the ancients did – as a collection of stories which have the opportunity to reflect back to us aspects of ourselves.  In this way, scripture becomes a vehicle through which our highest self can speak to us – providing guidance, support, inspiration, nourishment and even healing.  When we pierce through the veil of other people’s interpretations and allow the Divine to speak to us personally and directly through these ancient texts, we discover the transformational power of The Word as it was originally intended – as a tool to guide and sustain us on the path of love.

The Benefits of Using Authentic Freedom with Reiki

Reiki is one of many modalities of energy medicine incorporating hands-on-healing or the laying on of hands for the purpose of supporting the body in returning to its natural state of wellbeing. With knowledge of the Authentic Freedom process, a Reiki practitioner can greatly enhance the benefits of a traditional treatment, both for their client and for themselves.

Reiki, hands on healing, laying on of hands, Reiki and Authentic Freedom,

How Reiki Works

Using light, non-invasive touch in conjunction with the energy centers of the body (chakras), Reiki supports the body in releasing blocks to wellness and in returning to its natural state of energetic balance, thereby supporting the body in returning to its natural state of wellbeing. When the life force energy (Ki) is flowing freely, the body will reflect this in healthy vitality. Stagnation in the life force energy manifests in illness and disease.  Knowledge of the chakras, along with their physical correspondences assist the Reiki practitioner in identifying where the body’s Ki (life force energy) is not flowing so they may further assist their clients in releasing these blocks. Reiki works not only on the physical, but also on the emotional, mental and spiritual level – acknowledging that the source of many states of dis-ease is related to issues on these deeper levels of experience.  In traditional Usui Reiki training, the practitioner is taught the standard protocol for hands-on-healing with the invitation to know and trust that whatever healing is appropriate for the client’s highest good will be taken care of on any of the aforementioned levels.

Read my response to the Catholic Bishops’ prohibition against Reiki HERE.

Integrating Authentic Freedom with Reiki

Authentic Freedom adds an additional layer to the support a Reiki practitioner may offer their clients. Authentic Freedom provides knowledge and tools for working with clients on the deepest spiritual level – most often the truest source of emotional, mental and physical imbalance.  By supporting clients on the spiritual level the practitioner is going straight to the source of dis-ease.  Additionally, knowledge of the Authentic Freedom philosophy provides the practitioner with tools they are able to share with their client which the client may then employ for on-going healing and support.  This approach saves time and effort in the healing process while supporting the client in the experience of enduring change.

How Authentic Freedom Enhances Reiki

Using the seven chakras as a point of reference, Authentic Freedom has identified the seven spiritual fears/wounds which are at the heart of many (if not most) emotional, mental and physical states of dis-ease. When a Reiki practitioner is able to support their client in tracing back their physical, emotional or mental symptoms to the corresponding spiritual fear/wound, awareness takes place and the first layer of healing is accomplished.  Identifying the true source of imbalance (or as I call it, “naming the demon”) is the first step in authentic healing.  From that point, the Reiki practitioner supports their client in letting go of this fear through hands-on-healing.  With Authentic Freedom, however, the healing doesn’t end with the table treatment.  Authentic Freedom includes a wide variety of mindfulness, meditation and creativity practices which the Reiki practitioner may prescribe for their client so that they may continue and deepen the healing on their own.

Incorporating Authentic Freedom with Reiki accelerates the healing process by getting to the deepest source of imbalances while providing the practitioner and the client with tools for on-going and enduring healing and support.

To learn more about the Authentic Freedom process, read my book Authentic Freedom – Claiming a Life of Contentment and Joy or enjoy the benefit of personal instruction in this protocol through my online course.

We Are All Called to Be Priest

Yesterday morning, I had the great honor of ordaining six women as High Priests in the Order of Melchizedek. In addition to having already completed the Authentic Freedom Mastery program, and for several, The Magdalene Priestess Training, these women committed themselves to eleven months of diligent study in the ancient, alchemical rituals and practices of the gnostic Christian tradition.  The intention and purpose of these studies is Union – union with the Divine, union within ourselves, union with all of humanity and union with all of creation.  The end result of these studies and the purpose of the ordination are to accept the call, and become empowered in the task of being a vessel of the Divine and being of service to the Divine intention of love.  In being a vessel of and servant to Divine love, we become agents for healing and transforming our world. This is the priesthood that we are all called to embody.

Each and every one of us is called to be priest – not in the sense of what we currently understand priesthood to mean. Instead, we are all called to be priest as Jesus was called to be priest:

In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a Son, he learned obedience through what he suffered; and having been made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him, having been designated by God a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.  HEB 5: 7-10

Jesus did what we are all called to do. In following his longing, he discovered God.  Jesus discovered an intimate relationship with that which he called “Abwoon,” – a relationship what he experienced as parental and which he felt as unconditional love.  Surrendering to the embrace of this love, Jesus found wholeness and was healed of what might have otherwise kept him from this wholeness (tempted in the desert for 40 days).  In being healed, Jesus discovered his original nature as One with God in love and within this love, discovered the call to go forth, sharing what he learned with others and healing people along the way.

Jesus did not provide this example and model so that we might place him on a pedestal, separate from us, and something to be worshipped. Instead, Jesus adhered to his calling and remained diligent in his task so that others might also be free.  It was in his Oneness with God where Jesus discovered his freedom – a freedom that allowed him to look beyond the outside perceived authorities to the Truth within and in knowing this Truth, accepting the fullness of his call – to be a vessel of Divine Love and being of service to this love so that world might be healed and transformed.

For those raised in the Christian tradition, Jesus was just the beginning. Salvation did not end when Jesus was raised from the dead.  Instead, the process of salvation continues.  Jesus provided the model and we are called to continue the work that he began those many years ago.  Whether we call Jesus our teacher or not, the invitation is the same.  We are all called to be priest:

  • Following our longing to the Divine within.
  • Discovering our Oneness with the Divine in love.
  • Allowing ourselves to be healed and transformed of the inner fears and unhealed wounds that might remain as obstacles to knowing and being the love that is our original nature.
  • Being a vessel of Divine Love.
  • Being of service to this Love so that the world might be healed and transformed.

How are you living out your own call to being priest?

The Temple of the Magdalene and Authentic Freedom Academy provide resources and tools in support of your own call to be priest, specifically through the Authentic Freedom Mastery and Magdalene Priestess training programs.

Stay tuned for the Order of Melchizedek training which will be live in 2018 (completion of the Magdalene Priestess Training is a pre-requisite for admission into this program).

The key here is “help themselves.” The Lord (or whatever name you give to the transcendent aspect of the Divine that is said to be a source of guidance and support) cannot help those who refuse to take responsibility for their own lives, their own patterns of dysfunctional behavior, their own woundedness and their own fears.

The same can be said for us. When we reach out as a source of loving support for others, we can only help those who are willing to help themselves.  We cannot help those who are unable or unwilling to identify their own patterns of dysfunctional or compulsive behaviors (including behaviors of gluttony, addiction, victimhood, martyrdom, rage, power and control, envy or jealousy, sloth or pride); and we cannot help those who are unwilling to do the work of identifying the unhealed woundedness or fears that are in fact the cause of their dysfunctional behaviors and the unfortunate life situations their behaviors get them into.

What we can do is provide a listening ear and a compassionate heart. We can be a presence of unconditional abiding love.  We can educate, inform and direct them toward resources that might help them (including ourselves if we have the proper resources).  The rest is up to them.

As it is also said, “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make them drink.”

Whether or not those we hope to help refuse to drink from the well of support we lead them to is completely out of our control. Even if we could make them “drink” that doesn’t mean they will actually do the hard and often painful work of taking responsibility for what ails them.  This is where the subtle and necessary practice of detachment comes in. When we have offered all we are able in the form of guidance and support and when those we hope to help refuse to help themselves, there is nothing left for us to do but walk away.  For the sake of our own wellbeing, we cannot allow ourselves to take another person’s decisions personally; neither can we lose a minute of sleep over it.  As one teacher says, “their decisions are none of my business.”  Detachment is the ability to be a loving source of support while also having no attachment to what the other person decides to do with our offer of support. If they receive the support and take appropriate action, then they are well on their way to healing.  If they refuse the support and continue in their dysfunction, it is now on them.

As the Lord helps those who help themselves, it is also true for us. We can only help those who are willing to help themselves.

The Authentic Freedom Mastery Course empowers us with the ability to identify our gifts, along with our compulsive and dysfunctional patters of behavior and then provides tools for helping us to heal these patterns ourselves.  Learn more by clicking the image below:

Unchoosing Fear

Each and every moment of each and every day we choose which world we are living in. We are either choosing to live in the world of fear or the world of love. If we are choosing the world of fear, we are easily manipulated by the world that is dying and in the midst of its own collapse – a world that is ruled by fear, motivated by the desire for power and control.  If we are choosing the world of love, we are no longer vulnerable to the fear-based world and live in a world where there is peace, contentment, joy and faith and trust that all is unfolding in service to the higher good.  What world do you want to live in?  What world are you choosing?

Choosing the world of LOVE begins by unchoosing fear. Yes, we really DO have the power to unchoose fear (though the current patriarchal/hierarchical structures that are dying do not want us to know this, and neither does the media, or advertising).  Unchoosing fear begins with knowing how to identify fear in action, a skill few of us know how to do.  In fact, the old and dying structures did a really good job of teaching us how to fear and all the things we should be afraid of – death, war, violence, hunger, homelessness, hell, rejection, condemnation, and that we would not be loved unless we are a size 4, driving a Lexus and living the life of the Kardashians.  As such, unchoosing fear starts when we STOP listening to the old, fear-based, power and control driven institutions and start listening to our hearts instead.

The next step in unchoosing fear is being willing and able to identify what fear actually feels like and knowing when our fears are being triggered. Unchoosing fear then invites us to identify all the behaviors we tend to engage in when we are afraid – gluttony (over and under consumption), lust (giving our power away or trying to manipulate others through fear), wrath (harboring resentments, seeking vengeance), envy, greed (withholding our gifts or hoarding our resources), sloth (refusing to use the brain God gave us to reason, discern and exercise our truth), and pride.  Finally, unchoosing fear invites us to CEASE from engaging in our fear-driven actions and do the cold, hard work of healing the fears that causes those behaviors in the first place.
