What is Magdalene Priestess Training?

Mary, The Magdalene is the only one identified to have completed the full course of Jesus’ teachings (“healed of seven demons”) and was initiated as co-equal partner and Beloved with Christ. It was to The Magdalene whom Jesus first revealed his resurrected/Christed Self and it was The Magdalene he commissioned to share the good news with the other disciples and to continue his work in his stead. As “The Magdalene” and designated “Apostle to the Apostles,” Mary was “the great tower,” shining the light of truth in a world separated by fear.

The Order of the Magdalene continues this work in The Magdalene’s name so as to awaken the world to the truth of Mary’s role in Jesus’ ministry and life, and the higher truth of Jesus’ mission of LOVE which Mary alone understood, thereby restoring 2000 years of defamation at the hands of a patriarchal, hierarchical Church, further undoing the harm done to women specifically and the feminine in general. In restoring the Holy Feminine to the Jesus story, we also create the space in which the Holy Masculine can reclaim its place in our world, thereby supporting the world in the returning to its original nature in unity, harmony, peace and love.

Being a priestess of the Magdalene is about spreading the message of Mary’s true role in Jesus’ life and in the continuation of his work, but more importantly, it is about restoring the world to its original nature as LOVE.  As was true of Jesus’ disciples, priestesses of the Magdalene fulfill this mission in their own unique way, relevant to their own unique giftedness and the way they are called to share these gifts in the world in service to LOVE.  The ways in which current Magdalene priestesses are living out their call includes:

  • Counselors and Therapists
  • Holistic Healthcare providers
  • Artists
  • Writers
  • Wives and Mothers/Husbands and Fathers
  • Teachers
  • Professors
  • Philanthropists
  • Public Speakers
  • Shamanic Practitioners
  • Ordained Ministers and Officiants
  • Spiritual Directors
  • Massage Therapists
  • Hands-on Healers/Reiki/Acupressure/Healing Touch Therapy
  • Yoga Teachers
  • Meditation Teachers
  • Medical Doctors
  • Business Owners

Outer change begins with inner change.

Inner change begins with self-knowledge.

Self- Knowledge leads to self-actualization.

Self-actualized individuals, are inherently non-violent, cooperative and collaborative, and are naturally motivated to use their unique gifts in service to the betterment of the world.

From Western Spirituality, The Magdalene Priestess Training has its roots in the original teachings of Jesus* which Mary, called Magdalene fully understood and which were then formalized into the meditation, contemplation and service practices of Western Monasticism, specifically those favored in Benedictine, Franciscan, and Ignatian spirituality.

*The original teachings of Jesus are those rooted in the universal (and non-religious) call of love:

  • love of The Divine (the God/dess of your own understanding)
  • love of Self
  • love of Neighbor – recognizing that all of humanity is our neighbor

and then:

  • lived out through acts of compassion
  • working for justice

My Journey with the Magdalene – Part 2

I can’t presume to write a novel about the life and love of Mary Magdalene (learn more about the book HERE.)  without first giving credit to the 35 year journey that led me to this place. Here is part 2 of my journey with the Magdalene.  (Read Part 1 HERE.)

Fast forward fifteen years, past high school, college, work in the corporate world, and to where I was standing in the choir at the Newman Center at UW Oshkosh. The homily that particular Sunday was about “call.”  I heard the priest say, “If there is something you have always wanted to do, but haven’t done it yet….get off your butt and do it now.”  I will swear to this day that at the utterance of these words, a brick flew through the air and hit be square between the eyes.  I called a meeting with the priest, “I hate what I’m doing.  I’ve never been happy in corporate work.  I know I’m supposed to be doing something else.  I think it has to do with God, but I don’t know what that means.”  I consider this encounter my “call to active ministry” which began seven years of education and training as a Pastoral Minister and Spiritual Director and ten years of employment within the Catholic Church.  Not only did this encounter change the trajectory of my life, but through the class Integrative Spirituality with Sr. Marie Schwan, I discovered Christian Contemplative Prayer through which I found the intimate, personal, fulfilling, informing, guiding relationship with Jesus that I first glimpsed through Jesus Christ Superstar.  I discovered not only validation, but support for my inherently intuitive and contemplative nature and through these practices found tools for discernment, comfort, healing and guidance.  What I did not know in all of this was that not only would Jesus become deeply important to me, so too would Mary Magdalene.

Mary Magdalene presented herself to me through my course in Christology. I wrote my final paper on Mary Magdalene and discovered centuries of misinformation that maligned Mary Magdalene and placed her in the role of repentant whore.  What I discovered in this research (though I think I already intuitively knew this), was that there is NO SCRIPTURAL SUPPORT for Mary as a prostitute or even as an adulterous woman.  Instead, every single scriptural reference regarding the Magdalene places her in intimate proximity to Jesus as devoted student, companion and supporter.  Even more important than all of her supporting roles, it is to Mary that the resurrected Christ appears and SHE is the one first commissioned to share the good news of the resurrection.  (read John’s gospel account of the resurrection closely and you will see where the text was altered to give Peter a more prominent role in the discovery of the resurrected Christ).  Also in this research, I discovered that even the early church gave credit to Mary Magdalene as the first witness to the resurrection and honored this truth by referring to her as “the Apostle to the Apostles.”

Stay tuned for parts 3-4.

Song of the Beloved – the Gospel According to Mary Magdalene, the novel, is coming soon!  Watch this blog, or subscribe to my email newsletter HERE for updates!

The Feast of Mary Magdalene

Today is the Feast of Mary Magdalene….the day we give honor and remembrance to the first witness to the resurrection, the Apostle to the Apostles, the woman that Jesus commissioned to share his message of love to the world and the Beloved of Christ.  In honor of my favorite saint and the woman after whom I have modeled my own ministry…..I repeat my pledge:

The Magdalene by Toni Carmine Salerno

I AM the Magdalene

I am the Magdalene – this is what I am called to embody.  Called to be a vessel through which Jesus’ message of love is shared in the world, continuing his mission as he has called me to do.  Confident, uncompromising, strictly adhering to the truth of Oneness that Jesus came to reveal.

  • Through word and witness, teaching and preaching and by living Jesus’ law of love through devotion and prayer,  works of healing and counsel.
  • Modeling the same commitment to contemplative prayer that Jesus embraced – the vehicle through which he came to know his own Oneness with God and the tool he shared to help others come to know this truth.
  • Helping others find healing of the seven demons of fear that reinforce our perceived separation from God so that we may once again live in the peace and joy that God intended.
  • Guided by the Inner Voice of the Divine that speaks truth to the heart.
  • Confident in God’s loving counsel.
  • Uncompromising in adherence to that Inner Voice.
  • Moving in Compassion and Love for all.
  • Patient and Trusting in Divine Providence.
  • On-Fire with God’s Love.
  • With Christ as my Beloved to accompany me.

I am the Magdalene, I in her, and she in me.
