Surviving the End Times

When I was seven years old, I had a dream that the world was ending.  I asked in the dream how we could prevent this from happening.  I was told to gather my friends, go in search of “Lincoln’s authentic bones” and “restore them to their rightful place.”  Even at the age of seven I understood the symbolic meaning of this dream and have been preparing ever since.  Well, it seems that the end times are now here.  Not the apocalyptic destruction of the world as some have interpreted the prophet’s words.  Instead, it is the end of the world as we have known it – a world built on fear, power and control, ruled by a rich and powerful few.

I am certain the end times are upon us as I gaze out into the increasing polarization and insanity of our world.  I know it more intimately by the SOS calls I am getting from family, friends, clients and students of their own world seemingly falling apart.  I also see it in the many conversations with my Magdalene sisters and brothers of the chaos they are witnessing in the lives of people they love and care for.  As the patriarchy (the system built on fear, power and control) approaches its final days, the death throes will only become louder.  As those currently in power, those who benefit from their power, and those who have been indoctrinated by their power cling to survival, chaos will rise.

It is not for us to become distracted by this chaos, however, or get drawn into it.  Instead, we are invited to tend to ourselves so that we might not only survive the end times, but thrive upon the ashes of what will remain after the patriarchy has burned itself to the ground. Now more than ever we must tend to ourselves, because:

We are not here to save the dying world.  We are here to witness its destruction while supporting ourselves in building something new.

Self Care.  Self Care.  Self Care.

Surviving the end times while supporting ourselves in building something new starts and ends with SELF CARE.  This is the greatest irony in a world ruled by those who care for no one but themselves, while conditioning us to think of everyone but ourselves.  (what!?)   Yep…you heard that right.  To survive the dying world, we have to turn the tables on our conditioning.  Instead of “me last,” we have to start thinking “ME FIRST.”  In order to do this we have to look deep within ourselves for the answer to this question:

WHAT DO I NEED?

Seems simple right?  Not so much.  What we actually need to feel peaceful, whole, content, joyful and fulfilled has been buried under a lifetime of conditioning.  Who you truly are and what you truly need is buried under a mountain of “shoulds” and “should nots.”  Just pause for a moment and think of all the “shoulds” that currently govern your life.  Some may be obvious, others more subtle.  Here’s a simple one:  “You should pay your bills on time.”  Says who?  And Why?  Who is harmed if you pay your bill a day late, or two weeks late?  As long as it gets paid, who cares?  Speaking of paying your bills…another should:  “You should pay off all your debts. Only bad and irresponsible people file bankruptcy.”  Again….says who?  In a world where money is literally based in debt and where banks are getting rich on the backs of the poor and where the system is set up to keep us imprisoned by debt…then what is wrong with saying “NO” to the system that imprisons us?  Speaking of imprisonment – here’s a more subtle one – “You should be nice to others.”  Again, why?  If “being nice” is an obstacle to us getting our needs met, setting boundaries in our life, or keeping ourselves and our loved ones safe, then we can most certainly dispense with “being nice.”

Ultimately, surviving the end times is about extracting ourselves from that which has imprisoned us – those things set forth by the ruling (and dying) culture which have kept us from truly being free.  Free people know their truth, live from that truth and refuse to be hindered by a culture or a system that would prevent them from being that truth.

First Aid for the End Times

  • If we want to survive the end times, there are a few critical things that support our self-care:
  • DO NOT get drawn into or distracted by the chaos of the dying world.  LET IT DIE.
  • Refrain from trying to fix or save a world that cannot be saved!
  • Tend to your triggers.  WHEN the death rattle of the dying world triggers your fears, anxieties or unhealed wounds – TEND to those wounds.
  • BE 100% accountable for your own shit!  Anxious?  Afraid?  Insecure?  Threatened?  Worried?  Obsessed?  NAME IT.  CLAIM IT.  Do something about it!
  • CHECK YOURSELF!  Don’t take your wounds out on others or try to make them someone else’s responsibility.  HEAL YOURSELF.

If you need help with any of the above, that is my area of expertise!  Get instruction and support through my online courses, one-on-one mentoring, read my book Authentic Freedom, subscribe to my Authentic Freedom Weekly lesson, become part of our social network, join our Teacher’s Circle.  I am here for the sole/soul purpose of supporting you in unraveling from the dying world while creating the world in which you truly want to live.

Bonus Material for Empaths

If you are an empath, what I said above about self-care is of infinite importance.  As empaths, we are not only experiencing our own emotions related to the simultaneously dying and birthing worlds, we are feeling the emotions of everyone else.  With this, self-care becomes even more critical.  Self-care that is radical in the face of our action-oriented culture.  As empaths we MUST:

  • Carve out time for the energies we are feeling to be transmuted and released.  (this is the job we are doing for the sake of our world….and no, we don’t get “paid” (not in any material way anyway) to do this work).
  • Honor whatever is happening in our bodies and emotions. NO JUDGMENT.
  • Remember that what we are feeling may not be our own.
  • Don’t react or try to “fix” how we are feeling.  BE WITH IT and it will move.  What we resist will persist.
  • REST!  REST!  REST!  NAP!  NAP!  NAP!  Our bodies are processing deep and powerful energies and it is taxing to our fragile human systems.  Give yourself a break for Goddess’ sake!
  • Nurture yourself.  Take time to do what you love.  Read.  Relax.  Create. Spend time in nature.  Spend time in nature!  (I need this reminder! )
  • If you don’t have one already, cultivate a regular spiritual practice.
  • Surround yourself with loving and caring people.  Dump the energy suckers!  You have enough work to do without being a host for parasites too!
  • Without being a fanatic – eat well.  Your body will tell you what you need.  No need to embrace any radical (more shoulds) diet.  Just eat what feels right to your body.  Also, be gentle on any body-shaming you might be tempted to engage in.  Sometimes we need a little extra weight to nourish the world that is trying to be born through us.
  • Professor Lupin was right – a small piece of chocolate does wonders in restoring our bodies from the ravages of Dementors!
  • Reach out for support when you need it!  Not if you need it.  WHEN you need it.
  • Remember you are not in this alone.

A Dying World and Dreams of the Apocalypse

Last night I had ANOTHER apocalyptic dream. I’ve had several (many).  In every dream there is a similar theme – the world around me is collapsing and myself and either a group of friends or my children are trying to save the world.  These dreams always end the same – me waking up completely exhausted and hungover from the frustration over not being able to complete the dream.  I am never able to do what I had set out to do – save the world.

Today it hit me!

The world in which we have been living – the one based in fear, power and control is in the midst of its own demise (cue Oingo Boingo!). It is imploding upon itself and everyday new revelations come forth demonstrating this reality.  This is the world that has only served the very few and which has been built on the backs of those who have become their indentured servants.  As the very few have grown in power, and their servants have become disempowered, the corruption, lies and betrayals upon which the dying world has been built are coming forth – actually, flooding forth.

Here’s an example of one that I am certain served as the inspiration of my latest dream:

A person shared on FB about the recent changes in the health insurance plan. Their deductible has increased exponentially.  Mind you, this person works for one of the riches corporations in the world.  I did a little research and discovered their top execs make upwards of $10Mil a year and have full benefits at no cost to themselves.  It is only “the worker bees” who have to pay for their health insurance.  HMMMMMMM……something is rotten in Denmark.  I made this point on FB and you should have seen the people running to the defense of their employer!  Ok…whatever.  I got my own undies in a twist over this and henceforth came the dream.

But….here is the thing. THAT world is dying.  People are waking up.  They are asking questions.  They are seeing the truth.  And if the “worker bees” aren’t asking the questions, the very few keep putting their foot in their own mouths, revealing exactly HOW they have become so privileged.  “The worker bees” will only put up with this for so long.  In a hive, when the queen stops taking care of her workers, the workers hastily find themselves a new queen.

It is long past time for a new queen! And the queen is rising. In a hive, the “seed queens” are already there.  The nurse bees simply locate the most viable larvae and start feeding them royal jelly.  Henceforth the new queen is born.  The same thing is happening in our own world.  The queens are being made ready to take their place as leaders of the new world.  These are the women and men who carry a vision of love instead of a vision of fear. These are the people who desire a world where the needs of the many are favored over the needs of the few and who understand that if we don’t start taking care of this planet we live on, it will destroy us so as to save itself.

These new queens are not only grown-ups. They are the children who came here expecting a world that is one, only to discover a world that is divided.  They know they cannot “fix” the broken world.  Instead, they long for its demise so they can build the new world that already resides within their heart. These are the Gen Y and Gen Z kids that the dying world fears – calling them lazy, irresponsible and screen addicts instead of honoring them for the amazing gifts they are bringing to our world.  I for one LOVE these kids (Cue  The B52’s)!

It is for the sake of these new queens and the new world we are called to bring forth that I am here. I am not hear to fix, save or heal the dying world (let it die!).  I am here to birth something new and I AM NOT ALONE!

Witness to the World’s Destruction

The world is on the path to its own destruction and there is nothing we can do but stand as witness, and hopefully when it is all said and done, be a source of support for those left standing.

destruction pixabay

Yesterday morning, we were graced with the beauty of a late-winter snowfall.  At 7:30 am, I went outside to shovel the sidewalk and steps up to my house in preparation for my morning Authentic Freedom Mastery course.  As soon as I stepped outside, I was hit with a powerful blast of pressurized energy that set my heart pounding and my head spinning.  The vertigo was so intense it was I could do not to pass out as I finished shoveling the walk.  After I completed my task, I clawed my way back into the house and laid on the floor hoping to stop the spinning.  Then the migraine hit – one of those axe-to the head migraines that insists, “You’d better cancel your whole day because you won’t be able to get off the couch.”  So I did.  Then I spent the day raging and writhing, venting and weeping, generally feeling sorry for myself, for everything and for nothing.  When I woke up this morning with the migraine hang-over and still feeling shaky and disoriented, I thought to myself, “not again.  I’m really getting tired of this shit!”  Then I prayed.  What I saw in my prayer shook me to the bone and the body-wracking sobs that poured out of me helped me to understand that it was not my own pain I have been feeling with these recurring migraines.  Instead, it is the pain of the world – specifically, the pain of a world on the path of its own self-destruction.

There it is.  The prophet’s apocalyptic call that most will choose not to hear, or will simply call me out as crazy for seeing and speaking the truth.  But you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to see where we are headed as a species if we don’t QUICKLY and DRAMATICALLY change our course.  Yes, I (we) know exactly what the world needs to do to change its course, but I’ve (we’ve) been singing THAT song for 15 years now and the world continues to turn a deaf ear.  Every single minute of every single day, people are choosing fear over love and as a collective, we are reaping the fruits of that choice – the fruits being the dead and rotting corpses of the mindless zombies we have become, attracted to noise and driven by an endless hunger for flesh.  As it turns out, the flesh we are consuming is our own, and it doesn’t appear that this is going to be changing anytime soon.  (Where is Rick when we need him?)

Cue the music video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9Dg-g7t2l4

So what are the prophets and a mystics to do when the world seems hell-bent on its own destruction?  There is really nothing more we can do but resolve ourselves to this fact, then stand by as witness as the world based in fear continues to choose fear, destroying itself in the process.  For those who will be lost in this fear, we grieve.  For what will be lost in this fear, we weep.  For the fear that is driving this destruction, we mourn.  And then we wait.  We wait in silent witness to the destruction and we wait in hope for those who will be awakened through this loss.  And when they awaken, we stand as teachers and guides, as sources of healing and support as together we work in building the new world that will seek to be born out of the ashes.

666 – Divine Power Made Manifest or the Antichrist?

A great disservice has been done to one of our numbers.  The number I am referring to is the number 6.  6 has been maligned due to book of Revelation and its reference to the number 666 as being the number of “the beast.”  While 666 did refer to a literal “beast” to an early Christian community (Roman Emperor Nero), the reference truly ends there. Unfortunately, literalist interpreters of scripture have taken the 666 ball and run with it, maligning 666 along with the number 6 by associating it with the Antichrist, the devil, Satan, temptation, hellfire and damnation (so much so that in medieval times, those born with a sixth finger on one hand were killed for being a child of Satan).  In truth, the number 6 has nothing to do with evil, the devil or the Antichrist, but instead has everything to do with Divine Will and making it manifest on the earth.

But, before I get into the serious stuff….two fun video clips from Sesame Street on the merits of number six:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjNvS8M_7dQ

Now, back to business…..to fully comprehend the number 6 and what it represented before certain institutions go their hands on it, we have to turn the clock back a few thousand years to the advent of gematria.  Gematria is defined as:  an Assyro-Babylonian system of numerology later adopted by Jews that assigns numerical value to a word or phrase in the belief that words or phrases with identical numerical values bear some relation to each other or bear some relation to the number itself.  The earliest Hebrew use of gematria is in the association of numbers with the individual letters of the Hebrew alphabet (Aleph-Bet).  Vav, the sixth letter in the Hebrew alphabet is the symbol of completion, redemption and transformation. Vav, in the shape of a hook, represents reaching “up” toward heaven and bringing it down to earth, representing the famous wisdom statement, “As above, so below” – or as Jesus would have said, “seek ye first the kingdom of God, and all these things will be added unto you,” or as Jesus further implored in the Lord’s Prayer, “thy Kingdom come.”

6, therefore, represents the process of seeking Divine guidance so as to make Divine will manifest on this earth plane.  In the Hermetic school, this process was called alchemy and was the task of the magi.  In Indigeneous cultures, this was the job of the shaman.   In the hands of the magi and the shaman, Divine guidance is sought through the use of creative imagination (as in shamanic journeying techniques, mystical visions or engaging in the Christian practice of Imagination/Contemplation).  In these practices Divine guidance is communicated through a symbolic narrative – a dreamlike story.  Within the experience, assignments are given and tasks are completed which somehow activate change and transformation on the physical, real-world, plane.  Heaven is brought to earth simply by engaging in the process.

From this perspective the number six then, has nothing to do with the Antichrist, but instead, has everything to do with personal power – specifically, our ability and call to connect with the Divine and to bring Divine will into manifestation in our lives.  When we engage in these practices, we are working to bring the “kingdom of God” into our earthly experience – we are bringing forth the “New Jerusalem” as envisioned in the book of Revelation.

It is important to recognize, however, that the Book of Revelation itself was never meant to be taken as prediction of the end times or as a warning of a time when the Antichrist would rule. Instead, it was written to a specific audience of Christians who were suffering under the persecution and slaughter of the Roman Emperor Nero.  Nero, was the Antichrist, “the beast” about whom the author was referring.  The gematria (number association) of his name just happens to be 666!

The book of Revelation was included in the bible because its message transcended the specific audience to which the author of Revelation was writing, and the times in which they were living.  While Revelation was about Nero and his persecution of Christians, those who assembled the bible recognized a more universal message – one communicated in the language of a shaman or mystic.  When we step back from the details (horrible beasts, harlots, plagues) and look at the wider, larger story, the universal message (beyond that of persecuted first-century Christians) becomes clear:

When we remember God (the Alpha and the Omega) as the center of our life, we experience heaven on earth.

When we forget God, we live in hell.

And as it relates to 666:

God’s goodness (three*) insures that we will find the power within ourselves to manifest heaven on earth (six) for our own highest good and for the goodness of all humanity.

*( The triple 6, (3) relates to the Hebrew letter Gimmel, which means, God’s goodness)

If this is true then why have we been led to believe that 666 is evil and to be associated the devil, hellfire and damnation?   Why would an institution want us to be fearful of our own personal power that arises in our intimate connection with God so as participate with God in bringing heaven to earth?  I’ll let you answer that question.

The Shift, The Rapture, Enlightenment, Ascension, or What?

“Whether we are changing the world or we are changing ourselves, the effect is the same – we are living in a new world.”

DSCF3291

Superhero Report from Monday, August 11, 2014

Since time began, or at least since either climate change or barbaric hoards came and destroyed the harmony that human beings had once known (see Riane Eisler’s books, Sacred Pleasure and Chalice and the Blade for more on these theories), we have been yearning for another kind of world.  Whether communicated through hippie tie-dye dreams of peaceful revolution or apocalyptic foretellings of the rapture and the promise of the “kingdom to come,” we have looked for something other than the fear and conflict that often defines the human condition.  This generation’s talk on enlightenment and ascension is no different.

. . . or is it?  Ultimately, that decision is up to you.  Because, in a sense, we create our own reality (more on that in a bit), so we get to decide….do we want to remain in the world as it is, or live in a way that supports a more peaceful and harmonious world?  And, is there something to the increasing numbers of people speaking for and working toward making the world a better place?  Or is this as it always has been and we just have more access to these conversations because of the internet?  Again…the answer to this question is up to you.

As one who is not interested in creating or supporting anything as doctrine, I will not tell you what to believe, but instead, will invite you to discern for yourself.  There are a million and one resources out there for exploring the ascension, enlightenment, world changes, third dimension/fifth dimension transition, the shift, etc. etc. etc.  Simply type one of these terms into Google and you will find a million possible answers.  At the end of this post, I will share with you the resources that I turn to for support in this discernment, but again, don’t take any of this as doctrine, instead, please discern for yourself.  In the meantime, it is important to understand that:

“Whether we are changing the world or we are changing ourselves, the effect is the same – we are living in a new world.”

And this is exactly what it boils down to.  If we are in a stage of our human evolution which is facilitating dramatic and peaceful change in our world…..yay!  If, on the other hand, it is more about our own inner transformation, then that is ok too.  This is the part about creating our own reality, because ultimately, creating a peaceful and harmonious world, starts with ourselves.  When we do the inner work of cultivating peace, compassion and harmony within ourselves, it can’t help but trickle out into our lives and ultimately, out into the world.  When we take care of the world that resides within us, it is reflected in the world around us.  When we become peaceful, compassionate and joyful, the world becomes peaceful, compassionate and joyful – even when we are surrounded by hatred and fear.  When we know the love that we are and enjoy the peace of that knowing, the events of the outside world have no negative impact on us….and maybe this is what some of the New Age “Ascension” folks are talking about when they refer to the 5-D, fifth dimension world:

Harmony and understanding

Sympathy and trust abounding

No more falsehoods or derision

Golden living dreams of vision

Mystic crystal revelations

And the minds true liberation…

Ultimately, it is up to you.  If you are looking for a peaceful, more loving world, enter the SHIFT within yourself and see what happens.  In the meantime, here are a few resources I have found helpful:

Mental Health Week – Jay Ramsay

Today’s contribution to Mental Health week comes from poet, author, psychotherapist and healer, Jay Ramsay.  I first came to know Jay through his book, Crucible of Love, and later, Jay was kind enough to read and write a review for my book Authentic Freedom – Claiming a Life of Contentment and Joy.  You can learn more about Jay through his website:  http://www.jayramsay.co.uk/.  Thank you Jay for this beautiful piece of poetic prose and for being a dear friend and companion on this wild and crazy journey!

Strange Days of the Soul

God must, in some way or other, make room for himself, hollowing us out and emptying us, if he is finally to penetrate into us. And in order to assimilate us in him, he must break the molecules of our being so as to re-cast and re-model us. The function of death is to provide entrance into our inmost selves. It will make us undergo the required dissociation. It will put us into the state organically needed if the divine fire is to descend upon us. And in that way its fatal power to decompose and dissolve will be harnessed to the, most sublime operations of life. What was by nature empty and void, a return to bits and pieces can, in any human existence, become fullness and unity in God. —Teilhard du Chardin, Le Milieu Divin (Collins, 1960) As the saying goes, ‘it is terrible to fall into the hands of the Living God’. In our terms, it is the sudden fate of the ego to find itself out of the driving seat, and plunged into another world of air that is the Self—the one we may find in us who is really there.

My spiritual emergency was a breakdown of seven months during 1989. The run-up to this period was fairly classic: over-exertion, and ego assertion, to the point of burn out. The year previous (my 30th) I’d had seven books of poetry published in a year, and had organized a South Bank launch for my anthology Transformation1. I’d been aware of needing to stop, needing a break, and had been invited down to Tuesley Manor by Viscountess Bronwen Astor, an inspired Christian whose philanthropy extended to making over part of her grounds and a house called The Quarry to retreatants of various kinds, lay and religious. Tuesley Valley, originally a pagan site named after the god Tue, is a potent pocket of land just south of Godalming: one of Nature’s healing places which, like Culbone near Porlock in North Somerset, has a primeval depth. I decided to come as I thought for a month. My plan was to have some space and catch up with my writing without some unwanted pressures, and the hassle of London traffic. One month became seven as my plan fell to pieces. I was basically exhausted but resisting the invitation to let go, not wanting to waste precious time in this unique location. However every attempt to write rose up only to fall flat, grey and lifeless. I felt as if I was sitting in a fog, or rather, something more subtle and insidious, a kind of obstruction in the air that prevented me from making any progress. Slowly, repeated failure became panic as something else, something far more potent, began to take place. This became located in the Christian experience leading up to Easter and then beyond, into the light of the summer. Essentially, this was crucifixion-the death of the ego, and resurrection-the birth of the transpersonal self. At the time it was like hell, a limbo without flames. Some of the intensity of what happened was also no doubt fanned by solitude, long hours alone under the eaves of a large country house where there was no escape. It was as if God was outside all the windows looking in; somehow I knew my number was up.

Perhaps this vaguely paranoid state indicates a kind of displaced self/’Self-’witnessing; certainly it was my ego’s fearful perspective of change, which I came to express in the poetry I did manage to write2. It was also a deeply physical experience as well as being emotional (depression and anxiety). A number of rebirthing sessions with Bronwen, who had trained with Leonard Orr, greatly aided and deepened the process (‘It is dark and the air breaks in freezing waves’); my body responded in a gestalt like way (‘As your hands rise, frozen, half-raised—fingers splayed’), and it was after one of these that I had one of several distinctly emergent experiences. An early evening experience of deepening depression had once again become panic. I withdrew upstairs and sat in an armchair in my room as the light faded outside, simultaneously anxious and furious at this suspension of faculties, willing some final breakthrough to happen. Nothing happened. At least for some minutes. Then I noticed I couldn’t move. My body became as if liquid, deliquescent. I went to lift up my arm and nothing happened. Then the sensation of heat began to appear on my forehead, like fingers gently pressing there— but very hot fingers. There was no avoiding them. The light deepened outside, the lit candle flickered. The heat on my forehead became like a disk of sustained warmth. Then slowly it began to fade; and my power of movement returned.

Because of my work with the theme of Apocalypse, I had been looking at the Book of Revelation. I found myself walking over it and opening it at random. The sentence stared out at me: And the servants of God shall be sealed in the foreheads. The rest is in the poem ‘surrender’, prior to and after this, one of several numinous happenings that became my path, both inside, and outside as I worked in the wild valley garden to clear the length of stream. How did I get through this—especially when it continued to seem so open-ended ? There was a fundamental paradox for me throughout between will (making an effort) and surrender (letting go, handing over). I realize now that in some way they were the polarities of the dynamic process I was in, but I couldn’t get my head around that at the time. Certainly, I learnt to surrender—hence the title of the poem. I learnt to become more Taoist about it, going with the flow. Also I was seriously trying to ‘read the signs’ so regarding as a creative process however (seemingly) impossible, was also very important.

Finally, and as mysteriously a third thing emerged beyond will and surrender and that was intuition, and choice. And in early September, unfinished as the sentence was, I decided: enough. Time to return to London, my patient partner, and the world—or at least my more hermit-like version of it. Somehow the time was right. And as I sat gazing out of the window of my attic room on that last morning at the woodpigeons flying in and out of the still full-leaved trees beyond the stream, wondering what it had all been about or for, a voice quite distinctly in my ears said ‘You had to fail in order to heal’. That was my final lesson, one I am still learning. But as I sat a month later in my little garden shed studio in Kew, working on a long poem, I had a sensation I’d never had before; of a well of strength beneath me and inside me, a well that has never run dry. For then on too, my relationship with poetry as an exclusive discipline changed, and I began to see my work was about people, not just my literary achievement. I began writing my 18 month correspondence course Chrysalis—the poet in you3 , and my one to one work with people began, entering into the journey of psychospiritual therapy4 and healing. ‘And all these things shall be added unto you’. Putting on the Prophet’s Hat

World changes?  Natural Disasters?  2012?  End of the World Prophecies?  Global Warming?  Global recession?  Government Corruption?  Planets re-aligning?  Poles Shifting?  Earthquakes?  Tsunamis?  War and Famine?  What’s it all about?  Is it the rapture?  Is the apocalypse near?  Or……is it the birth of something new and wonderful?

Putting on the Prophet’s Hat

You do not need to be a prophet to recognize that we are in the midst of cataclysmic change…in the world and as a species.  In truth, a prophet is simply one to can read the sign of the times.  So putting on our prophet goggles, what do we see?  War.  Famine.  Natural Disasters.  Global Recession.  Plaques.  Government Corruption.  Corporate Greed.  Churches Dying.  If we judge these things as “bad” and that is all we see, then we might summize that  the end is near and we should all get ready for the rapture.   I’m wondering if there might be another perspective?

Standing on my Soapbox

I need to make it very clear that I AM NOT a future-teller.  I only see what I see and what I see I choose to perceive through the lens of love and hopefulness.  Are we facing a decline in our economy, are churches dying, is capitalism failing, education struggling, medicine in chaos, the world at war?   YOU BETCHA!  However, I don’t believe that this is a bad thing.  In fact, I think it is a very good thing….and this is why:  EVERYTHING that is in conflict, decline, struggling – in our world and in our society are those things that were established upon the hierarchical-patriarchal model, rooted in fear and managed through greed, power and control. This hierarchical-patriarchal model has failed….and failed miserably.  We need only look at the world around us to see that this is true.  Interestingly, it is only since we embraced this model of interaction that we have known violence in our world.  The time of the hierarchical-patriarchal model has come to an end.  AND THANK GOD!!!!!

The Birth of Something New

So if everything we know that has been rooted in this hierarchical-patriarchal model is dying, what does that mean?  On one hand….it means the end of all structures based in this model:  church, medicine, government, education, the military, commerce.  It even changes the way we look at and define our inter-personal relationships – especially marriage and parenting.  YIKES!  The death of these structures might feel scary….mostly because it is all we have ever known.  The good news, however, is that something new is arising.  We don’t yet know that that is….but if we look closely, I think we can see a glimpse of it on the horizon….or at least we can get a sense of what it might feel like.  While I cannot propose to know what this something new might be….the following is my personal sense of some of its qualities and characteristics and what we might look for as a beacon of hope as we watch the old world die.

A Beacon of Hope

My sense of what is trying to be birthed and what the new world might look like is:

  • A world rooted in love, motivated by compassion
  • Working toward equality and justice
  • Founded upon a model of collaboration
  • Where all people are equal – regardless of race, creed, gender or sexual orientation
  • A world where we take the time to listen to each other and seek to discover our similarities while honoring our differences
  • A place where all people are not only equal….but are honored as SACRED
  • A place where all we have is shared and no one goes without
  • A world where all people are treated with dignity and respect

Heaven on Earth

Call me a dreamer.  Call me an idealist.  Call me a utopian-minded liberal.  But in the end, I believe that this is one of the things that Jesus was trying to teach us.  Jesus showed us how to live a life centered in love and compassion and how to remember our truest nature as men and women of contentment and joy.  What would happen if we actually put these teachings into practice?  We just might realize that the Kingdom of God that Jesus spoke about so freely, is at-hand…right here in our very midst.  Do we have the courage to open our eyes and see it?

Jesus said:

“If those who guide you say, ‘Look, the Kingdom is in the sky.’ Then the birds are closer than you.  If they say, ‘Look it is in the sea.’  Then the fish already know it.

The kingdom is inside you, and it is outside you.

When you know yourself, then you will be known, and you will know that you are the child of the Living God; but if you do not know yourself, you will live in vain.”
