How I Know Where We’re Headed

  • -Because I’ve Been Here Before!

On Sunday this week, I posted my blog with the challenging question: Will You Survive the Collapse? It is not uncommon, after sending words like that into the ethers that people ask me, “How can you claim to know this?  How do you know?”  The unscientific response is, “I just know.”  But there is also a response based in science – specifically the science of applied knowledge gained through experience: I’ve been here before.

Now, I’m not talking about some whoo-whoo past life memory. I’m talking about experiences I’ve had in this life.  The experience is this:  nearly every single  company/institution I worked for, or with, went through some sort of cataclysmic change. Indeed, with this, you might call me the harbinger of doom.  But really, their collapse was not my fault.  I just happened to be there to witness it’s unfolding and the resulting collapse.  I was also there to be hospice to the dying and to remain, as long as I could stand it, as some other form was trying to be born.

grimreaperhdwallpaper

It happened waaaayyyy back in the day when I worked for AT&T. It happened when I worked for St. Mary Resort in Glacier Park, Montana. It happened with a local company who went through a massive downsizing.  It happened during my employment with the Catholic Church – not once, but five times, not including the cataclysmic change that happened under the reign of Joseph Ratzinger (aka Pope Benedict XVI).  And it happened with the University where I did my graduate studies.

In every situation, the pattern was the same:

A time of great hope and expansion struck fear in the hearts of those ill-prepared for change, which then inspired a longing for the nostalgia of some idealized past, quickly followed by a dramatic pulling back that ultimately led to the death of what had been known.

Each. And. Every. Time.

This is exactly what is happening in our culture today – only on a much larger scale. Not everyone sees this, as it requires Eagle Vision to see how we have come to this…and where we are likely headed.  Fortunately, Eagle Vision is one of my gifts.

We have experienced profound and dramatic changes in our culture – just in my lifetime:

  • Manufacturing has been replaced by information and technology.
  • Our definition of family and the family web has profoundly changed.
  • Our cultural awareness of diversity has greatly expanded.
  • We have become more mobile and our communication is now global.
  • Our economy has shifted from local to national and now global.
  • We have access to more information than any generation previous to ours.

As these expansions are happening, we are also finding that we can no longer trust those institutions we used to rely on for guidance and support. This includes the many institutions, with whom we used to place our trust, who are now in the midst of their own collapse:

  • Healthcare
  • Education
  • Banking and Finance
  • Government
  • Religion
  • Corporations
  • The Military
  • The Economy

With all of this expansion, and the dramatic change that is accompanying this expansion, those ill-equipped or uncomfortable with change, have pulled back. They are retreating into the nostalgia of some idealized past where everyone was “happy, safe, housed and fed” – a past that has existed only in their imagination. With this, we are witnessing an upsurge in ‘isms – sexism, racism, orientationism, nationalism, beliefism, etc. etc. etc.  Instead of taking responsibility for the anxiety being experienced in the face of change, fingers are being pointed and entire populations scapegoated as the “enemy.”

All of this is how I know where we are headed. I have been here before.  I also know what it takes to survive and move through cataclysmic change as I have accompanied hundreds through similar change.

  1. Be honest. Acknowledge the death that is happening and the fear that accompanies death.
  2. Be hospice to the dying. Support people in acknowledging their fear and the grief that is arising in the face of the loss.  Provide them with support in moving through the fears and the accompanying faces of grief (shock, denial, bargaining, depression, anger, sorrow).  In being hospice, DO NOT INSULT those who are grieving with frivolous distractions (for example, the “joy in the workplace” initiative recently launched by the administration of an institution who shall not be named which is facing its own collapse.  “Scared that your job might be eliminated?  Join us at noon and learn how to make a potholder.” WHAT!?) Instead, be with them WHEREVER they are in their grieving process.  (PS Institution who shall not be named.  I’m still here offering my services in change and grief management because from what I can see and what I’m hearing from your employees, clearly, “you don’t got this!”)
  3. Give them something to hope in.  With every death comes the promise of new life – for those who have the courage to believe and the willingness to see the glimpses of the new life that is arising out of the ash of the old.  Point out those glimmers of new life and encourage others to support that new life.

The demise of what we have known is already happening and will soon be accelerating. I know this because I have been here before.  If I am proved wrong, I will be the first to admit I was wrong and shout hurray at the glorious revival of western culture.  In the meantime, I’m here if you want to talk about your fears, process your grief, and gather the support which will help you move through the death to the new life that will, indeed happen, and is already happening.

Nothing Like Richard Rohr

Today’s blog: Richard Rohr, emerging church, beyond religion, unity consciousness, healing a divided world, what does it mean to be “church” in a post-modern world?

Before sharing today’s blog, I want to extend a profound thank you to all those who offered words of encouragement and support, along with your prayers.  When I accepted the call to step even more fully into my truth by initiating the “Gathering of the Tribe,” the “devil” came a callin’!  Every one of my fears and insecurities has shown up to test my resolve.  Any and all safety nets were removed and I’ve been free-falling, trusting (trying to trust anyway) that I am being carried to the fulfillment of this mission. I am committed to the mission of the Tribe and to the work of Authentic Freedom and will continue to do the deep inner work that allows me to show up to this mission each and every day.  Thank you for your love and support.  We cannot do this alone!

Now for today’s blog:

No, I’m Nothing Like Richard Rohr!

If I had a dime for every person who has said to me, “your writing reminds me very much of Richard Rohr’s,” I would be the richest person in the world. As I have come to know Richard Rohr’s work, I can see how people might judge us as similar: we are both Type Ones on the Enneagram, we are both speaking on the topic of unity consciousness, we are both working to unite a divided world, we are both arriving at our topics from the perspective of a mystic.  But there is one very important thing that sets us apart from which I must insist, “No, I am nothing like Richard Rohr.”

No offense to Richard as he is speaking to a very specific audience in the great work he is doing in the world.  And he is working from within the comfort of his white, male, ordained, clerical privilege; deeply embedded in an institutional Christian mindset and supported by that institution. I am not.

Case in point: Yesterday, in Richard’s daily meditation email newsletter, he reflected on Making Christianity Relevant Again. While I agree with many of his points, if we ever hope to heal the divisions of our society and our world, we have to first recognize that the separation put forth by the Christian message is an enormous part of the problem….and it has been since the Jesus message was sold out to the fear, power, privilege and control of the Roman empire.

authenticfreedomheartblank

When the message of love that Jesus came to teach became institutionalized in the form of Christianity, the love was lost and fear took its place. (Just a reminder, Jesus was a Jew, not a Christian and he never sought to start a new religion, but to bring forth the love that was already at the heart of the Jewish message.) Suddenly, we were unworthy of the love of God, we needed an intermediary (in the form of an ordained priest) between ourselves and God, and in order to earn God’s love, we have to pay, pray and obey.  The freedom that Jesus promised was replaced by indentured servitude.  We were no longer free. Instead, we became slaves to the institution and to the institutional laws (dogma, doctrine), that serve mostly to keep us from God’s love, or to remind us of how this love had to be earned and the eternal threat of that love being taken away.

It is not Christianity that needs to be made relevant – it is love. In fact, this is already happening and the unfolding of this is not coming from within the institution of Christianity, it is coming from without.  THIS is the emerging church that Protestants say they are looking toward and which Catholicism seeks to ignore.  It is happening in people’s homes, in popular media, in the publishing industry, in online communities – all those places where people are coming together to rediscover the love that is at the heart of every religion – the love that erases the perceived separation between belief systems, making their chosen teacher’s words relevant to an entire world, not just to the “chosen few” who will find salvation through obedience to the institution’s laws.  This is the work I am doing through Authentic Freedom Academy and another reason I am nothing like Richard Rohr.  I am no longer seeking to reform an institution (Christianity) that is part of the problem in the first place.  I’m going directly to the source which is love.

The place where I came to know this love is within, and it was from and through Jesus’ teachings (which are clearly written in scripture when we move beyond the doctrine) that I came to know this love within. This is the love that Jesus came to know within himself through his oneness with (that which he called) God, and which he then sought to teach others.  This is a love that is universal and available to every single human being that walks on this planet – and you don’t have to call Jesus your teacher to know this love.  In fact, if we look closely enough, we learn that this love is at the heart of most every institution that calls itself a religion or a philosophy.  Love is what we are all seeking to attain/remember and it is love that will heal the divisions of our broken world.

From the chair in which Fr. Richard Rohr is sitting as a white, ordained, Catholic priest, I understand his point – for him and for those to whom he ministers, perhaps it is Christianity that needs to be made relevant. But from where I am sitting, the only thing we need is love.

Stepping Out from Behind the Veil

It is easy to speak of our human ancestral heritage. I am proud of my Celtic and Viking ancestry and every other bit of human the DNA that makes up who I am.  It is more difficult, however, to speak of our celestial ancestry.  When we listen deeply and are open to others who have listened to our origins beyond the veil, we discover that our origins as humans reach far beyond the DNA of our parents to the DNA in the stars. What follows is my own reflection on my origins beyond the veil and how it has become relevant to my very human journey.  Perhaps in hearing these words, you will find your own light shining behind the veil.

starseed-in5d

The end of an era – the end of my 3D human journey. Karma is done and has been paid, freed and forgiven.  Clear of the debris of 3D, I’m free for my true self to fully emerge – the Self that is Divine while dwelling in human flesh.  My true nature as a Sirian Starseed.

Having arrived as an envoy – many thousands of years ago to implant the earth with our Divine light, along with the codes of awakening. Dwelling first among the primitive human as gods, awakening them out of their purely instinctual nature.  We are the Tree of Knowledge from which they ate and their eyes were opened.  But, in their awakening, they turned away from the light and chose the darkness – eventually turning on us as the “cause of their pain.”  So they made war with us.  We decided not to “have that conversation in that way” and we “turned sideways into the light,” dwelling within and among humanity – for our seeds had already been planted within them – slowly, but surely awakening them to their full potential while we stood beside them – just on the other side of the veil.  Waiting.  Patiently waiting as we hold the humans in love – awaiting the day for the Great Awakening.

The Great Awakening is here – when enough of the sleeping human have awakened to their true Divine Selves and it is once again “safe” for us to step out from behind the light.

And this is what now steps out from within me. The Full Divine Light that I Am as a Sirian – an emissary of the Divine Light and the Divine Truth – where Love governs our experience and creation arises seamlessly and effortlessly out of this Love.  There, we love things into being and everything that we need to “Be the Love” that we are magically and effortlessly arrives in our hands.  We are supported because it is all we know as we are self-generating, self-sustaining, beings.  No longer limited by the false perception of separation of the 3D world.  Living in form, but a form that has now risen to the frequency of our original nature/vibration – the 5D and 6D vibration that we brought to this plane.  As humanity has expanded its vibration, so too did we – now emerging into the 13th dimension – providing the opportunity for humanity, one day, to do the same.

We are the Sirians – the Starseeds. The Source of our origin in conscious awareness and we are here to continue to support the human awakening.  And now we walk among you from within those who have crossed the bridge from separation into Oneness – those who have perfected the human vehicle such that our light might shine through.  No longer only human, but a human vehicle in which the Divine Self may be known – living and moving and having our being – in the same way that the fully Divine Being has lived among you in the beings you have named thus:

Jesus, Mohammed, Moses, the Dalai Lama, Amma, Yogananda, Anandamayima, Mary Magdalene, St. Francis and Clare, Babaji and Mataji, Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, Krishna and Radha, Melchizedek and Mother Anna, Mother Mary, John the Evangelist, Black Elk, the 13 Grandmothers…..the list goes on and on.

You are equal among them when you allow the full Divine human to emerge from within you – for this is what we came here to initiate within you and the seed of potential we planted within you all those thousands of years ago.

A message to all Starseeds:

It is now our time.

Time to step forth from the veil.

To emerge from behind the veil of separation consciousness

To be the love and light that we are –

Guiding humanity back to their original nature of awakened love.

No longer imprisoned by the perceived separation of 2D and 3D (duality) consciousness,

But living fully and unencumbered from the place of Unity

Where all are ONE in the LOVE that we are,

Love finding its unique expression in human form through us.

It is time to be this love – only this love,

Creating from and out of this love,

For the sake of and for the purpose of love,

Re-creating the earth in the image of our home –

A home made of love and for the purpose of love.

Let us be this love and in being this love,

Knowing that love is all there is.

Blessed Are You Who Believed

As a child, I was granted a vision. The vision was the herald of “the end of the world,” along with the promise that this ending was not set in stone, but could be thwarted, or rather, re-directed through the accomplishment of one simple task.  The task, however, proved not to be so simple.  In the dream, this task was symbolized by the command to “gather your friends, dig up Lincoln’s bones (as in former President), and restore them to their rightful place.”

lincolnmemorialpixabay

As I reflect on this dream in light of what we, as an American culture, and as a world, have undergone in the dreadful year of 2016, the dream makes total sense. If we, as a culture, and a world, continue to stray from the nobility, integrity, authenticity, honesty, and righteousness symbolized by our 16th President, we shall certainly manifest our own demise.  For me, the dream becomes especially potent as we approach the passing of the baton from President Barack Obama, (who for me, more than any recent president has represented the Lincoln archetype) to Donald Trump.  To say that this is a volatile time in our history would be an understatement.  In my lifetime, it has never been more critical that we “gather our friends” and “restore Lincoln’s bones” to their rightful place.

But what does THAT mean? This is where the 40+ years since the vision prove to be helpful, especially those since 1993 when the red brick flew through the air and hit be between the eyeballs – waking me up to my mission and purpose in this life. This mission is nothing short of bringing heaven to earth!  (No small goals here!)

What does THAT mean? In short, it is doing what Jesus did – discovering my own Oneness with the Divine and in that Oneness finding my unique gifts and call, and through these gifts and call, finding meaning and purpose in my life.  Then, showing others how to do the same.  Abraham Maslow called this process self-actualization.  Carl Jung called it individuation.  New-agers call it ascension. By whatever name you call it, the process is the same – asking and then finding the answer to the questions:

  • Who am I?
  • Where do I find that place of inner peace, connection and contentment?
  • What are my gifts and how am I being called to use them?

What does this have to do with Lincoln’s bones and the end of the world? It’s simple really and it is the other part of the vision that has been given to me in adulthood:

world-pixabay

A gathering of friends who have and continue to do for themselves what Jesus did (becoming self-actualized), who know what their gifts are, and who are finding fulfillment in the use of these gifts for their own sake, and (as it relates to Lincoln’s bones) for the sake of the betterment of the world. It is through this gathering of friends that:

  • Hospice will be offered for the dying world.
  • Support will be found for those who are grieving the loss of what they have known and for the anxiety they will be feeling in the face of a great unknown.
  • Prayer will be offered for the sake of healing and wholing our world.
  • Resources will be made available for those who are hurting and in need of healing – spiritual, emotional, mental and physical healing.
  • Rituals will be done for the sake of restoring our world to its natural state in love.
  • Peaceful, non-violent activism will take place to help raise awareness to all the places in our world in need of love and then working toward being that love.
  • Education, formation and empowerment will be made available for those who wish to be a part of birthing a better world – ie: heaven on earth.

For nearly 50 years, this vision has been with me and the weight of this call. For the past 23 years, I have worked diligently toward this call.  I have risked much for the sake of this call and have been called insane for believing such a call.  In the face of what is unfolding in our world, I find that I can no longer question, doubt or challenge this call because I know it to be true.  Whatever the cost, and without a safety net, this is what I am here for and what I am called to do. If we do not work on changing our own hearts from fear to love and if we do not work toward supporting others in doing the same, the consequences are nothing short of our own lives and the lives of our planet…and you don’t need to be a prophet to figure this out.  It is right here before our eyes, if we take the time to look.  We can no longer afford to bury our heads in the sand, unless of course, we are happy to see our world end.

Toward this end, I have put out the clarion call and gathered a group of friends to envision a better world and to dream about how we are called to be loving vehicles for change.  If you feel so-called, join us on Monday, January 2, 2017 at 6:30 pm for our next Gathering of the Tribe. Here you will find community, support, inspiration and empowerment. If you are not in the Oshkosh area, join us by intention, or better yet, call together your own group of friends.

As I pondered this call at the juncture between 2016 and 2017, for myself and for those I have gathered, who should come to me but Mother Mary with the following words:

Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.

I offer these words to all of those I know and love who envision a better world, or rather, who KNOW the world they came to live in and are now being called to create!  Thank you for heeding this call and thank you for all you will do to restore our world to the Love it was meant to be.

Amen! Amen!  Hallelujah! and  Amen!  Amen!  So Mote it Be!

I Know Why I’m Here

I know why I’m here. I’ve always known it.  From the first time I heard this song:

And every minute thereafter, I have known it. It has only taken me 51 (almost 52) years to believe it.

I am here to be hospice to a dying world and to support the birth of the new that is already coming forth out of the ash. In case I didn’t get it when I first heard “The Age of Aquarius,” my Soul made sure I knew in a dream I had when I was just a child.  The dream was of the coming of the end of the world and the assignment I was given to gather my friends and do what we needed to do to save the world from complete and total collapse while restoring the world to its original intention in integrity, honesty, peace, justice and love.

As I have meandered through the first two 26-year cycles of my life, the what and how of this mission has been made more and more clear, while at the same time seeming more cloudy and confusing. What this looks like and the form it will take is cloudy.  What it is made up of is clear:

  1. LOVE. Specifically, the love I have learned through Jesus. I didn’t learn what the institutions taught through their politicalized version of Jesus. I learned directly from the man. I learned it through prayerful study of scripture and in finding the truth beyond the words as guided by my own deep source of inner truth. I learned it through personal, intimate encounters and conversations with Jesus and with him, the Magdalene. I learned it through teachers from other spiritual traditions who were saying the same thing, which then ultimately brought me back to Jesus. I learned it through dreams, visions, higher levels of learning, and through the rich personal experiences of my life. Here, I bypassed doctrine and dogma and learned what is true for me….and that truth is LOVE.
  2. MAGIC. I don’t mean “hocus pocus” magic like that reserved for ordained, “celibate” men, waving their hands and turning bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ (don’t get me wrong, this magic can be real magic depending on the intention of the one doing the magic and those receiving it). I also don’t mean using magic to get what I want or by manipulating the elements for my own selfish end. No, I mean REAL MAGIC. The Magic that is the Divine in us working through us to manifest a higher goal….and that goal brings us back to #1, LOVE.

This is the Magic that defies the laws of nature, that defies the rational and logical mind and that sets Newtonian physics on its ass. The very Magic that Moses did when he parted the Reed Sea, that Miriam did when she found water in the desert, that Elijah did when he brought a dead child back to life, that Mother Mary did in hearing the Angel’s call, that Jesus did when he healed the sick, fed the hungry, gave sight to the blind, set captives free, raised Lazarus from the dead and that Mary Magdalene did in being catalyst and witness to the resurrection.  This is the Magic that all of these great teachers came to know through their own intimate connection with the Divine that dwelt within them.  And this is the Magic that I am called to REMEMBER so that I can fulfill my mission and support others in fulfilling theirs.

Confessions of a Catholic Witch

I have always known I was a witch. For 364 days a year, however, I simply pretended I was not.   Only on Halloween as I donned my black robe, black pointy boots and a black did I feel completely at home.  For the remaining days of the year, I felt like a fake….sort of….for if there is one place where a witch is at home (until she is found out that is), it is in the Catholic Church.

lauricurtsie2

Nowhere else, among all of the western religions, is magic as prevalent as it is within Catholicism. Where else can a man utter the phrase “hocus pocus” (hoc est corpus meum) and turn the simple elements of bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ, or through the imposition of hands release a person from “the devil’s” grip?

The smells, the bells, the little altars everywhere, the haunting strains of Latin chant, the saints to whom I could pray to remedy any struggle or ill, and the votive candles that I lit to solidify my intentions bring my dreams to fruition – all spoke to the witch inside of me who knew the world was magic and that magic could be brought forth in the world. Magic in its truest sense – the Divine working through us in support of the love within that is seeking its place in the world.

The Goddess knew what she was doing when I was born into a devout Catholic family – one that had been Catholic for many generations. She knew what she was doing when she planted me within the single western religion that honors the worship of both a male and a female God. (While Jesus’ mother, Mary, is not officially recognized as a goddess by the Catholic Church, people sure treat her as if she were.  Wouldn’t one have to be a goddess to be the “Mother of God?”)  She knew what she was doing when she placed me within the only western tradition that recognizes the use of amulets (saint medals, scapulars and rosaries), magical potions (holy water and anointing oils), incense and salt for keeping evil at bay.

darkgoddessaltar-jpg

Being a Catholic witch has not been easy, however, which is why I have hid my truth for all these fifty-one years. While I was drawn to everything that speaks magic within the Catholic Church, in being a witch, I also saw through the lies, the deception, and the subtle ways in which the Church manipulated people through fear.  At a very early age, I became aware of the hypocrisy within the Church and was not afraid to call it out.  As an adult, I have maintained this practice and there is a big file in our local Catholic diocese with my name on it to prove it.  Apparently the Church is not interested in those who see through the mask of piety and the illusion of holiness.

It was ultimately this hypocrisy that caused me to leave the Church I once adored – all because I dared to study and practice Reiki. It is apparently ok for a priest to practice laying on of hands in support of a person’s desire for healing, but Goddess-forbid a lay person, OR WORSE, a woman should do the same.  By a Church that claims it is not doing magic in turning bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ, or in healing the sick through the imposition of hands, it was of witchcraft and sorcery I was accused and then condemned for doing “the work of the devil.”  Me thinkest they protesteth too much!

Because I no longer feel welcome in the local Church which has effectively burned me at the stake, I have chosen for the past eight years to fast from the Eucharist. This does not mean, however, that I ever stopped being Catholic – more importantly, a Catholic witch.  I heal the sick through the imposition of hands.  I ordain women and men into their own giftedness (magic) and send them forth into the world where their magic can be shared.  I baptize people into the love that they are and confirm them into being that love in the world.  I hear people’s confessions – and absolve them of their “sin” by helping them to heal the deeper inner fears that cause their addictive and non-loving behaviors.  I sit with people in the pain of grief and prepare them for their death.  I preside over weddings and funerals.  I provide spiritual nourishment through the Eucharist that is within each and every one of us when we allow ourselves to BE the Body and Blood of Christ.

For living out my call in this way, you could call me priest, or priestess, but as it was in the most ancient traditions, and in response to the accusations against me, I prefer to be called a witch.

Lessons on Loneliness

sadwomanpixabay

I have had many conversations with fellow mystics on the topic of loneliness. As mystics we ARE different from the norm, usually pretty far-left of center. Many find it difficult to relate to or understand us. Others are hesitant to draw near because of the light we shine on the love they are, which they are perhaps not yet ready to be. We think, move, act, believe, see, differently and some find this disturbing. All this is reason enough to feel alone, set apart, even lonely. But there is an even greater source of our loneliness and it is God. More specifically, the call of the mystic, above all else, is to know God/dess, and it is through loneliness that God calls us home to ourselves and home to God. As I recent wrote to a student, fellow-mystic and spiritual sojourner:

Mystics always feel some sense of loneliness and isolation.  It is the other edge of this double-edged gift.  On one hand, we experience God more intimately and as One.  On the other hand, we long for more of this.  It is the “loneliness” that keeps us seeking God, seeking that experience of Oneness.

Our human inclination is to believe there is something wrong with us for feeling the deep ache of this existential loneliness. We judge ourselves. We wish for this aching emptiness to go away. We seek after the remedy to this loneliness by looking for things outside of us (including other people) to fill the void. What we end up finding is simply more emptiness, for there is nothing “out there” that can fill this void. Instead, we are invited to go into the loneliness for it is here we shall find God/Self. Again, as I shared with my student:

Transformation comes when we realize that loneliness is the GIFT that compels us toward God and that it is GOD we are lonely for – nothing else (which keeps us from looking “out there” for something to fill our emptiness – and emptiness that can only be filled by God). Don’t despair of the loneliness.  Don’t chase after its remedy.  Welcome it and accept it as part of your gift.

The loneliness and deep sense of isolation that plagues the mystic is in fact, our greatest gift. The loneliness that society tells us to judge and which we therefore are tempted to resist is actually God calling us into an ever-deepening intimacy. It is in entering into the loneliness, welcoming it, becoming comfortable with it that we find God and in finding God we find ourselves. And if more loneliness remains, we are called to remember that it is only God calling us even deeper into the love that we are and to dare to even go there. As there is no limit to the love of God and the love that we are in God, there is likely no end to the loneliness. When we accept this truth and cease from judging, resisting, or trying to rid ourselves of this loneliness, it is here that we find peace.

Reflections on Being a Shadow Worker

The journey toward self-actualization is about coming to know ourselves….all of ourselves, and learning to love it all…especially the things that sometimes cause us pain. One of the things I have come to know about myself is that I am a Shadow Worker.  This gift has often caused me pain, especially when the reaction to my gift is often (perceived) rejection. Last night, while in meditation with the students in my “What is Your Magic” class, I received some further insights about the gift of being a Shadow Worker:

A true Shadow Worker embodies love – a love that does not cringe in the face of darkness, but instead stands confidently in the presence of darkness, knowing that darkness and light are but one. The love that IS the Shadow Worker shines a light on all that has forgotten its true nature as love so that which covers the love can rise to the surface to be seen – so that it may then be healed and released.  The Shadow Worker can’t help this…it is its very nature and simply what happens in their presence. Some receive this love as the gift that it is and are healed and transformed.  Others reject this gift as they have rejected themselves.  Unwilling to see their own self-rejection, they project this rejection on the Shadow Worker, making them the enemy.  The Shadow Worker (once they know and understand their gift) receives this rejection and sends it back as love.

What sets the Shadow Worker apart is that they can stand in the darkness, withstand the darkness, endure the darkness. They do not run and hide, instead, the stand in the darkness, holding it, loving it, allowing it to be dark until it chooses otherwise.

The Shadow Worker comes in all shapes and sizes, and are endowed with a variety of gifts – some are healers, teachers, counselors, artisans, writers, leaders, prophets, etc. All are known by their love and the edge of darkness that upholds them.

Some famous Shadow Workers throughout history: Joan of Arc, Barack and Michelle Obama, Martin Luther King, Jr. Gandhi, Jesus, Mary Magdalene, Anne Boleyn, Catherine of Siena.

The Mystic’s Conundrum

Once we have seen the face of God,

Everything by comparison pales.

The whole world lacks luster

Melancholy defining the human condition.

Longing replacing enjoyment

Ever yearning our heart’s return.

“Why can’t it be like that all the time?”

We achingly wonder,

Comparing earth to heaven

Forgetting that it is for earth that we are here,

And to heaven that we shall return,

Understanding why the ancients said,

“You cannot see the face of God and live.”

For life no longer feels like living.

But when we cease the comparison,

Understanding

That the glimpse of God was only a glimpse,

A gift that’s rarely given,

And one most will never know,

We begin

Remembering why we are here:

To love the human condition,

Accepting it for what it is – painful, despairing, filled with hatred, violence,

 suffering and loss.

Allowing ourselves to be with what we otherwise want to reject,

believing “this cannot be God.”

HERE is where we find God,

No longer distant, rare or separate,

But right here in the midst of the human condition

For HERE, there is nothing that is not God.

Witness to the World’s Destruction

The world is on the path to its own destruction and there is nothing we can do but stand as witness, and hopefully when it is all said and done, be a source of support for those left standing.

Yesterday morning, we were graced with the beauty of a late-winter snowfall.  At 7:30 am, I went outside to shovel the sidewalk and steps up to my house in preparation for my morning Authentic Freedom Mastery course.  As soon as I stepped outside, I was hit with a powerful blast of pressurized energy that set my heart pounding and my head spinning.  The vertigo was so intense it was I could do not to pass out as I finished shoveling the walk.  After I completed my task, I clawed my way back into the house and laid on the floor hoping to stop the spinning.  Then the migraine hit – one of those axe-to the head migraines that insists, “You’d better cancel your whole day because you won’t be able to get off the couch.”  So I did.  Then I spent the day raging and writhing, venting and weeping, generally feeling sorry for myself, for everything and for nothing.  When I woke up this morning with the migraine hang-over and still feeling shaky and disoriented, I thought to myself, “not again.  I’m really getting tired of this shit!”  Then I prayed.  What I saw in my prayer shook me to the bone and the body-wracking sobs that poured out of me helped me to understand that it was not my own pain I have been feeling with these recurring migraines.  Instead, it is the pain of the world – specifically, the pain of a world on the path of its own self-destruction.

There it is.  The prophet’s apocalyptic call that most will choose not to hear, or will simply call me out as crazy for seeing and speaking the truth.  But you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to see where we are headed as a species if we don’t QUICKLY and DRAMATICALLY change our course.  Yes, I (we) know exactly what the world needs to do to change its course, but I’ve (we’ve) been singing THAT song for 15 years now and the world continues to turn a deaf ear.  Every single minute of every single day, people are choosing fear over love and as a collective, we are reaping the fruits of that choice – the fruits being the dead and rotting corpses of the mindless zombies we have become, attracted to noise and driven by an endless hunger for flesh.  As it turns out, the flesh we are consuming is our own, and it doesn’t appear that this is going to be changing anytime soon.  (Where is Rick when we need him?)

So what are the prophets and a mystics to do when the world seems hell-bent on its own destruction?  There is really nothing more we can do but resolve ourselves to this fact, then stand by as witness as the world based in fear continues to choose fear, destroying itself in the process.  For those who will be lost in this fear, we grieve.  For what will be lost in this fear, we weep.  For the fear that is driving this destruction, we mourn.  And then we wait.  We wait in silent witness to the destruction and we wait in hope for those who will be awakened through this loss.  And when they awaken, we stand as teachers and guides, as sources of healing and support as together we work in building the new world that will seek to be born out of the ashes.
