Creating the World We Want to Live In

As the patriarchal world in its death throes becomes more and more divisive and more and more violent, I have become increasingly aware of the fact that THAT is a world I do not want to live in. I did not come here to fight or to hate my fellow human beings. I came here to love.  It is for this reason that like my Tuatha de Danaan ancestors before me, I am deciding to “turn sideways into the light.”  I am choosing to step away from the world of hatred and fear and into a world of my own creation made only out of love.

This does not mean that I am not aware of the dire issues facing our world or that I am not using my own gifts to support the betterment of the world. It means that I am no longer engaging in the violence, the arguments or the fights and for the sake of my own well-being, I am disconnecting from the places where this violence runs rampant (ie: Facebook).  For the sake of my own soul, I refuse to place myself in harms-way or in an environment that might otherwise tempt me into fear and hatred and away from love.

In choosing love, I am creating the world I want to live in – far away from the loud, screaming, self-centered and narcissistic world that begs for our attention. Instead, I am tending to myself and in doing so, creating the foundation upon which I can be a source of loving support for others who want to do the same.  As more and more of us make this choice, we are depriving the patriarchal/hierarchical world of its food-source, thereby hastening its death.  (Hurray!).

THIS is how we create the new world as the old world lies there dying:

  • We become diligent in choosing love instead of fear.
  • We recognize when our own fears are being triggered and we do the work of healing and transforming these fears.
  • We learn to identify our needs, claim them and set boundaries around them.
  • We turn away from our conditioning and toward the voice of our soul.
  • We recognize that the material world has absolutely no bearing on our happiness and that peace and joy can only come from within.
  • We find the practices that support us in finding peace within and we DO THEM!
  • We say no to that which causes us harm and yes to what supports our own wellbeing.
  • We connect with others who want to live from love and we support each other in this endeavor.
  • We walk gently upon this planet.
  • We treat ourselves with kindness and then we share that kindness with others.

Hmmmmmm. As I write these words, the following scripture comes to mind.  Perhaps Isaiah was not prophesying the coming of just one man – but meant his words as an invitation for all of us and as a recipe for building a new world:

Here is my servant, whom I uphold,
my chosen, in whom my soul delights;
I have put my spirit upon him;
he will bring forth justice to the nations.
He will not cry or lift up his voice,
or make it heard in the street;
a bruised reed he will not break,
and a dimly burning wick he will not quench;
he will faithfully bring forth justice.
He will not grow faint or be crushed
until he has established justice in the earth;
and the coastlands wait for his teaching.

Thus says God, the Lord,
who created the heavens and stretched them out,
who spread out the earth and what comes from it,
who gives breath to the people upon it
and spirit to those who walk in it:
I am the Lord, I have called you in righteousness,
I have taken you by the hand and kept you;
I have given you as a covenant to the people,[a]
a light to the nations,
    to open the eyes that are blind,
to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon,
from the prison those who sit in darkness.

 I am the Lord,that is my name;
my glory I give to no other,
nor my praise to idols.
See, the former things have come to pass,
and new things I now declare;
before they spring forth,
I tell you of them.

Isaiah 42: 1-9

Meditation Activity: Prayerfully re-read the passage from Isaiah above, replacing “He” with your own pronoun….or (making it more universal) with They. As you are reading this passage in a more personal way, how does it now speak to you?  How are you being called to fulfill this teaching? How are you being called to create your own world anew and in doing so, showing others how to do the same?
