In Monday’s gathering of the Authentic Freedom Ministries contemplative community, we spent time focusing on the heart. I shared a poem by Kabir with the group entitled, What Kind of God Would I Be? Participants were invited to write their own poem along this theme, then were invited to send what they wrote to one person who might need it. Today, I share my poem with you. The invitation is to read the poem as if these are God’s words to you! Consider this my belated Valentine to you!
What kind of God would I be if I did not hear the secret longings of your heart
and send loving arms to hold you and lips to offer tender kisses?
What kind of God would I be if I did not take notice of the things that cause you fear
and quickly sweep the path clear of them?
What kind of God would I be if I did not see your gifts
and give you dreams and visions of how best to enjoy these gifts
and how the world may grow from your abundant sharing?
What kind of God would I be if I did not provide
the means of the fulfillment of these dreams?
Shelter not your secret longings.
Give not heed to your fears.
Dream big dream.
and Trust.
Trust in the knowledge of my love
greater even than the love of your father
and the love you have of your own children.
I give you infinitely more than you would give to these.
Happy Valentine’s Day! 🙂
