After You’ve Planted the Seeds

Today’s blog explores the topic of surrender.  What do we do after we’ve done all we can?

Jesus said, “This is how it is with the kingdom of God; it is as if a man were to scatter seed on the land and sleep and rise night and day and the seed would sprout and grow, he knows not how. Of its own accord the land yields fruit, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear.  And when the grain is ripe, he wields the sickle at once, for the harvest has come.” Mark 4: 26-29

While I have many favorite scripture passages, this is my favorite reading about surrender and manifestation.  In this reading Jesus reminds us that sometimes there are times in our lives when we have to simply sit back and let God do the work.  This is where I find myself at this point in my journey.  I have taken time to listen to Divine guidance.  I have accepted the invitations as they were presented.  I have prepared the soil, planted, watered and tended the seeds of my (hopefully) Divinely inspired and guided hopes, dreams, visions, desires.  Now, I find there is nothing else I can do but get out of the way and let God finish what God has started.

I think this is true in all of our lives.  Like a farmer tending the field, we do what we can, then we have to sit back and let nature/God do its work.  It can be a frustrating time as we anxiously await the growth of our work and our dreams.  We want the harvest to come NOW.  But there is danger in this kind of impatience.  If we force the growth or step into the opportunities before they are truly ripe, all we get is sour, bitter or inedible fruit.  So, we wait.  We wait until the seeds are mature and ready to harvest.  Then we shall reap the reward of our hard work and patience.

So, today I surrender to God’s work and trust that somewhere in the darkness, in the silence, in the waiting, God is bringing all this hard work to ripeness.  And, I look forward to the day when I can enjoy the juicy, sweet, ripened fruit of my labors and when that happens, I will gladly share it with you!

What seeds have you planted?

Where are you in the planting, cultivating process?

How are you being invited to surrender to waiting?
