Boil Nicely Now
Look at the chickpea in the pot,
how it leaps up when it feels the fire.
While boiling, it continually rises to the top
and cries, “Why are you setting the fire under me?
Since you bought me, why are you turning me upside down?”
The housewife keeps hitting it with the ladle.
“No,” she says, “boil nicely now, and don’t leap away from the one who makes the fire.
It’s not because you are hateful to me that I boil you but so you might gain flavor and become nutritious and mingle with essential spirit.”
In our spiritual journeys, we are each invited to enter into the fire of transformation. Through the spiritual process of transformation, we are healed and released of past wounds, hurts, betrayals, losses. We are also invited to examine our lives for those things that are no longer life-giving and offer them up to the cleansing fire that gives us the courage to let go so that room can be made within to welcome new growth, new opportunities, new expansion. This transforming fire also facilitates the absorption of that which does give us life – fulfilling relationships, empowering dreams, satisfying activities, nourishing endeavors.
How do you approach the fire of spiritual transformation? Do you resist the fire or do you surrender to its liberating and cleansing flame? The choice is yours.
