Discovering our Hidden Self

Today I find myself in a reflective, grateful mood.  This has been a week of wonderous events and miraculous conversations and all I can do it sit back in awe.  I LOVE MY JOB!

Over coffee yesterday, a friend and I were sharing about our mutual vocations.  His is in the field of career search, mine in the world of soul search.  We both commented on our mutual sense of wonder at the fulfillment and growth experienced by those to whom we minister.  There were several times in the past week where I had the opportunity to directly witness this fulfillment and growth.

The greatest moments in my professional work is when I get to see the spark of awareness or relief in the eyes of my clients and students.  There is a specific look in their eyes when something touches their heart or affirms their secret truths.  I cannot even give a name to this look but it has the quality of a Divine spark being lit and it seems to move so deeply within the individual that it lights up their whole being.  Sometimes the look is relief.  Sometimes it is inspiration.  Sometimes it is release and sometimes affirmation.  Whatever the individual experience, it ignites something within them that inspires and transforms.  It seems as if a tiny bit of their most authentic self is released from the place within where it hides.  Speaking to a group of business professionals yesterday, I likened it to our most authentic self hiding somewhere within us just waiting to be found.  I imagine like a tiny fairy hiding behind a tree, peeking out until it is safe to reveal itself.  Our deepest truths are this vulnerable and tentative and need to know they are safe before they will allow themselves to be known.

When I witness this moment of truths revealed, I can only sit in wonder, knowing that whatever it was that I said or did to help the other connect with their truth was not of my own doing.  I am fully aware that in these moments it is the Divine reaching into the deepest parts of anothers soul to gently call out their truth and that I am merely the vehicle through which this truth is called out.  It is an amazing process and I am continually humbled by its effects.

So for today, I want to thank all of my clients, collaborators, peers, friends and program participants for allowing me to be a vessel through which you are able to connect more deeply with your most authentic truths.  Specifically, I want to thank the women of First Congregational Church and the Oshkosh Chapter of Women in Management for inviting me into your sacred spaces and for giving me the opportunity to witness your own personal transformations!

Namaste!
