One of the things I love about the contemplative life is that every single thing we experience in this life becomes a potential vehicle through which truth is revealed. Embracing the contemplative life, we are open to seeing how the Presence, Action, Love, Inspiration of the Divine can be revealed to us in each and every moment.
I was reminded of this truth this morning as I found myself responding to one of my friend’s comments on Facebook. In responding to her comment, I found myself drawn to the music and mystique of Stevie Nicks and posted one of my favorite Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac songs on Facebook, “Sisters of the Moon.” As I enjoyed the song, I was reminded of how Stevie Nicks and her music has been an important source of inspiration in my own search for truth about the Divine and about my own deeper self. Her music spoke to me of a world beyond explanation – a world of mystery and magic. Her persona spoke to me of creativity, vulnerability and the fragile nature of our human self. Her stage presence spoke to me of my own inner rock star – the part of me that wanted to be seen. Her journey through drugs and recovery spoke to me of the importance of humility along the path. Even her clothing revealed to me a part of myself that longed to be freed – the perfectionist embracing my own inner muse. In short, Stevie Nicks became a vehicle through which God has revealed deeper and more magnificent truths about God’s self and about my own deeper nature. I still love the music and mystery of Stevie Nicks and am grateful for the inspiration she has offered to me along the way.
So today, I will enter happily into the land of Stevie Nicks and while I entertain thoughts of gold dust, crescent moons and platform boots, I invite you to entertain your own inner muse. Who have been your inspirations on the journey toward knowing yourself and knowing the Divine? And…if you are one of my Facebook Friends, I invite you to share that inspiration with your Facebook community!
